Hello my fellow PC gamers,
Officially, yesterday was the first day of the Quake2World Open Beta. A short description from the official site:
I've been in contact with the development team for a short few months, while the game has been under development for several years. For my personal description, it's an amalgam of what made Quake 2 fun inside of a modernized engine (it's a heavily modified Quake 2 engine that incorporates dozens of engine improvements, such as native md3 support, per-pixel-lighting, shaders and in-game browser)
Minimum requirements fit pretty much machine built in the last decade:
Currently it is under heavy development and the team is always looking for new members, particularly mappers and texture artists. The team invites everyone interested in some old school FPS gaming in a modern engine to give Q2W a try.
The best way to contact the team to leave feedback, criticisms, ideas and bug reports is on IRC @ #quetoo on Freenode.
Once you download the game, you have to run the Update.bat file that pulls all of the game content from the content servers to your local machine via rsync. If you want to make any permanent edits to your configuration, use the quake2world.cfg file (in Windows, it's located at My Documents\My Games\Quake2World\default\quake2world.cfg, OS X and Linux should be in your home dir ( ~/.quake2world ) )
Seeya in game!

Quake2World is a Free, standalone first person shooter video game. Our goal is to bring the fun and excitement of straightforward old-school death-match gaming to a more contemporary platform, and perhaps to a new generation of gamers. Quake2World is multiplayer-only. There is no single-player or offline gameplay mode. If you have no Internet and no friends, Quake2World might not be for you.
