Crowdsourced Hardcore Tactical Shooter on Kickstarter

New video is up with some updated text and concept art.

He still did not mention things like in-depth pre-mission planning, though if you read his posts in the forums you will see he intends on making this a feature as well as other key features of the tactical shooter genre. They are really looking to make a SWAT 4/Raven Shield type experience, and not yet another CS/Vegas type game. If you enjoyed SWAT 4/Raven Shield or even like challenging co-op PC games in general, I would suggest looking them over again and maybe donating some. $15 gets you the game, though if they don't make the $200,000 you don't loose any money.

The source crowded aspect is already working, as the music in the video was donated by a fan of the project.

If you miss tactical shooters and are looking for a new one that is PC based and is going to allow modding, this is probably your only chance for such a game.

This sounds fucking awesome. I really hope this makes it. I put tons of time into Rainbow Six and the SWAT games.

As do I. Raven Shield is just a bit dated, though it is still fun to watch a perfectly executed plan work flawlessly. I've made plans that were timed so well that teams that started on opposite ends of the map open and clear a room from multiple angles at the same time ect. It was really fun setting up a plan, studying it to make sure that when you enter hallway X Red team (or whatever colors they were) would pop out of a door and you have to make sure you didn't accidentally gun down an entirely friendly fire team. Something that is sadly lost in games these days.

I would play SWAT 4 more, but it always crashed randomly on both of the computers, XP, Vista, Win 7, and many different hardware configurations. Got a lot of fun out of it though.

Actually, he does:
You will plan your insertions and routes before going into the scenario, outfitting your teammates with weapons and equipment of your choosing, and then execute the mission. If one of your team members is killed, they are gone, and you have lost their valuable experience, so you have to be careful!
Effectively what it seems we're looking at here is a game that's functionally identical to the classic Rainbow Six mechanic of "play for keeps" mission planning followed by mission execution.

Guess I just wanted a bit more detail, but it looks like he did revise it and make it sound better. :)

The planning and execution is largely what separates these games from run and gun (or run, gun and duck) and pseudo tactical shooters like Rainbow 6 Vegas/GRAW.

I'm grateful for the clarification in the new video. The "adult" in me had issues with the vague nature of the initial pitch and the "hardcore" descriptor. (juvenile connotations) I can get behind the new pitch as it stands. And Takedown is a good name.

Is it my imagination or does the mysterious voice on the laptop sound like Dark Helmet?

You know what really bugs me... there is no way this is going to get another $100,000 in four days. However, since this "reboot" they did two days ago, they made what, $15,000? That makes for the highest per-day income since this thing started. If they had done this from the get-go, this would not have failed. Now it's going to, and it could potentially be the nail in the coffin for this entire genre. I wish they could just extend the end date or something. Hopefully he tries again...

Bumping this up for some attention. Only 6 hours left, but the total has jumped HUGE amounts in the past day or two. Only $25,000 short right now.

Fingers crossed...

I put in 50.

I think the reason this (will probably not) end up being funded, is because it's not actually going to be a full game from this.

Since they are only looking to get funding for an alpha build to then pitch that to a publisher many people are probably just expecting to get a demo type of game from this if it goes through rather then a full fledged game.

It sucks too, I loooove old school rainbow six and the Swat III/4 games. The kind of CQB you just don't get anymore with all the CoD/BF games out there.

Swat 4 will probably forever be one of my favorite PC games. It really sucks that this genre, as a whole, never became popular. I really want to see this project happen. I'd up my pledge if I could afford to... but money is tight, so my small contribution will have to do. I'm doing my best to spread the word instead.

So, notch just tweeted a link, and I think that sealed the deal. Someone donated $10,000, and it's been going up buy hundreds of dollars every couple minutes. It's made damn near $50,000 today. With 3 hours left and only $4,000 to go, this is gunna happen :)

yay, it hit the goal and then some.

In the last hour both Notch and TotalBiscuit tweeted about it, I think that gave them the final bug push it needed.

They hit the goal, but keep spreading the word. If you want to donate, now is the time to do it. Only hours left.

So did Robert Bowling. Almost makes up for Call of Duty :D

I donated a few days ago but totally didn't think it was going to be funded with the amount it had left to go. I am very impressed that it made it.

I wasn't expecting it to make it. I doubt Christian was either. Now that it has, though, I'm excited.

I wish it could have raised more capital if only to show publishers that there's still real interest in this genre, but $220k isn't bad for a Kickstarter that got off to a pretty shaky start.
