A survey conducted by CNBC found that over half of US households owns at least one Apple product. Even 10% of the ones that have no Apple products plan on purchasing something with the Apple brand within the next year. Those are impressive statistics. (and a bit scary to boot)

“Planned obsolescence has always been a part of the technology industries sales model, but Apple has taken it to a whole new level.”

It would not surprise me to see this was a target survey that just happened to mostly include people on a apple customer list, considering the source. Also given the odd number of people I imagine they called up say 200 households and if anyone in the house owned one everyone in the house gets puts down as owning.

It would not surprise me that over 50% of the us owns an mp3 player and most are sold by apple. But I've seen the way numbers are fudged to care about such surveys.

A bit surprising but not overly. Most of those are probably older-model iPods.

Only reason my household has an Apple product is because my wife managed to buy a 3rd gen iPod touch for $25

I would have to agree that this is MAINLY iPod products. Most people don't know/care that there are truly better MP3 players out there (Zune, SanDisk, Cowon, etc) and due to ignorance they think MP3 as iPod...hell most people don't even call them MP3 players anymore, its just "iPod".

I used to own an iPod nano back tears ago but I lost it. Am I still part of the 51%? I hate being in the minority.

I have a 3rd gen Ipod in my junk drawer with a dead battery.

Does that count?

I got into an argument at work with 50 year old about this.

He didn't believe me that you could get music without DRM and thought his Iphone would only play music he bought from itunes.

Apple loves this guy

Only 51%? Between Ipod, Ipad, Iphone and their computer range, doesn't really surprise me that people would have some sort of apple product in their house.

I own an iphone, got it on a sweet promotional deal between a telco and my work, ended up pretty cheap for me and was the best deal around at the time on any decent smartphones.

most likely 95-99.9% of that 51% are iphones.
im in the 49%. but its laughable now seeing the apple logos replacing the stick figure family stickers on the SUVs where i live.

Iphone 2G (was free so ha!)
Ipod Nano
Apple 23" Cinema Display

Yea my house on that statistic.

How many houses in the USA own a Microsoft product? I'd be willing to bet it's a darn sight higher than 51%

I'm one of the 49%, and proud of it.

At least, for the next 2 weeks. Then the fiance becomes the wife, and she just bought an iPad. :(

Haters will hate.....

I'm one of the 51% and I'm not afraid to admit it.

3rd Gen iPod Touch 64
iPad 2 64
Apple TV - the new kind
And the wife has a MacBook Air.

Some things just work. Enough said.

I've never bought an apple product but was gifted a gen 1 ipad as a suprise bonus one year for the entire company. I have to keep itunes off of my main computer and on a laptop because I've used media monkey for years and itunes doesn't play nice with MM.

When you consider a lot of people don't own windows but rather pirated it :p

Definitely mostly iPods/phones.

I've gotten really into Apple laptops. Now that I don't game much and that the most intensive thing that I do regularly is Photoshop/Lightroom, want to sell my desktop for a Mac machine as main computer.

iPod Shuffle (got for free, I would never waste money on this overpriced thing)
Old Apple Extended Keyboard II (mechanical KB from the 90s - not bad, though I need to convert it to USB)
Apple Keyboard II (another mechanical keyboard I got for free from my neighbor)
Old G3 desktop 266MHz (old computer from back in the day)
6-pin > 4-pin Firewire cable (dumpster dive find)

Otherwise, I try to avoid Apple products because:
1. Overpriced.
2. Form over function design.
3. Pretty much everyone else has one so I wouldn't be different if I had one. With the prevalence of these days, it's pretty much conformism.

There is only 1 reason I purchased an Apple product...ever: My car stereo onlt has a native interface with ipod.

I do however, have a broken 27" iMac...given to me when it was 13 months old. It needs a video card and Apple wanted more than the cost of a new unit to repair it.

Had a black MacBook.
Have a 2010 MacBook Pro.
2 first gen Mac Mini's.
Apple Airport EXTREME!

I like their laptops. Mine is modded, SSD and 7200rpm, external usb superdrive or whatever they call it. I wanted an OS X box and the iMini fit the bill at the time.
