Achieva Shimian QH270| $400 IPS 2560x1440 Korean Monitor

I will be receiving my Crossover monitor today. (WOOOT!)

Ordered on Thursday - so its a 2 day shipping time not counting the weekend. Freaking incredible considering its coming from S. Korea.

Dang you! I should have ordered from dcsamsungmall!
dreamseller hasn't given me a tracking number yet and I ordered Wednesday night!

SO MAD!

Not to make you any more angry and mostly for the record for viewers of this thread, but I too ordered from dcsamsungmall just yesterday and the package is already in Anchorage, AK and past customs, in less than 24 hours no less.

If you're going to buy a Crossover, dcsamsungmall is your best bet. I was able to best offer-talk him down $10 so got a slightly better deal. Sure, you'd save maybe another $10 if you got an accepted order from red-cap, but shipping-wise this seller can't be beat at the moment.

Same; ordered Thursday morning.

I think I'll cancel and order from dcsamsungmall if it hasn't been shipped yet. Waiting on a response.

Edit: Gots me a tracking number. It was shipped ~15hrs ago. No estimated delivery date, from what I can see, but hopefully Wed or Thurs.

Don't worry, you will be fine. dream-seller took 2.5 days to even send me any order confirmation, which really made me nervous. But when he shipped it, it was here very fast. He shipped late Thursday evening, and just this Monday it showed up at my door. Based on my experience, I think you will be fine.

placed order on 13th from green sum, and it should have been delivered today but the mail man decided it was too much effort to take the elevator to the 4th floor of my building and left a "oops we missed you!" slip in my mailbox, so now i have to get it tomorrow. i even saw the mailman a block from my building while i was out smoking a cigarette an hour ago.

My Crossover is in Alaska today :D

Damn fine shipping. I wish American companies shipped so fast....

-crappy cheap plastic to where pieces broke off during shipment

Ok that sucks.

-wobbly stand and has an obvious lean to the right

Does it wobble during actual use of the monitor, or only when you touch it? Because if not, I can't see what the issue would be. Can't you put something under the base to level it out? btw U2711's don't sit level either, I had 3 and this guy had two, none of which sat level.

-Unable to "overclock" past 65hz as all the new models no longer support this feature (probably for a good reason)

Neither can any other 27" IPS panel. I doubt 100hz is actually providing any significant benefit considering the response time of the panel. I think people are getting hyped over "moar hertz = better".

At the end of the day, yes, these are not perfect monitors, but neither is any other monitor. There is no such thing as the perfect monitor with excellent screen uniformity, colour and gamma out of the box. It just does not exist. I gave up on that fantasy a long time ago. Buying a monitor is about picking the lesser of two evils.

Mine too, ordered yesterday, shipped yesterday, cleared customs in Alaska today. Hopefully my tempered class Achieva lives up to the shipping used to get it here. :D

Our monitors are plane mates :D

Just got my Catleap Q270 SE in from DCsamsungmall. No dead pixels and it looks gorgeous. Colors and brightness are much better than my old Benq G2400WD, but that is to be expected. I have no complaints picture quality wise. Minor backlight bleed in the bottom right and it does have a bit of tilt. The tilt is caused by a bit of overhanging plastic on the body of the stand where the stand base attaches. With minimal effort It can be fixed. I just stuck a cup under mine and could care less.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tr5vRjHouvk&feature=youtu.be (available in 1080p)

Quick video of BF3. Video is recorded at 30fps, game was actually much smother but it gives you a good idea. I watched a little 720p Game of Thrones and video looks fantastic on it.

these monitors works with 110V? or it needs another power adaptor?

Thread skimmer skims thread...

They work with 110v, just need a power cord from an old psu or equivalent.

these monitors works with 110V? or it needs another power adaptor?

The Yamakasi Catleap that I got from Green-sum had the powerbrick that stated it did 110-240v so all I needed was just a plug converter and he even included that in the package as well. I didn't even have to get a different cable.

So far it seems all of the adapters are switching 115-230v.

Seemingly works fine with American plugs, I haven't had an issues.

Requesting a bit of help. Just put together my new Commercial Computer Work Station and god it's heavy. At least 250lbs. As you can see, it comes with a monitor arm and 3 x vesa mounts. I have a total of 66 1/2 inches to work within. I want to have my main display be a Catleap 27". The help I need is what are 2 good side monitors to put into portrait mode that have vesa mounts. Keep in mind I only have 66 1/2 inches to work with. Side monitors could be tilted in slightly maybe giving me an additional inch. I know we have some experts out there that this is right up there alley and love the
challenge of figuring out this solution. I've been on Newegg the last few hours and my brain is already jelly.

My only main concern really is, LED if possible and I'm not sure if a 23" LCD would fit and more importantly, if it's a screen match in portrait mode for the 27" Catleap what would be in Landscape mode. I want the continuity of the 3 screens to flow evenly across. Again, hoping to tap into our expert community for advice. Oh and glossy to match the glossy on the Catleap.

I got my crossover today. I am very very happy with it, but its not perfect unfortunately.

I do have 1 STUCK pixel. Its middle top of my screen, unfortunately a place that I look at a fair deal. Its stuck in RED, and I have tried a couple of things to unfreeze it, but to no avail. If anyone has any suggestions, I am open to them!!

The best thing I have tried is JScreenFix which seemed to be the best thing you can try software wise, but it didn't help. I am not really too sure what else to do.

Secondly - I think this monitor may not be IPS or maybe this is how they all look and I am not used to it - but I have noticed that the viewing angles aren't as good as I have see in videos and whatnot. Looking at it straight on and I can see somewhat of a discoloration in the bottom right hand corner. Well - its not discolored as much as it just seems brighter there compared to everywhere else. I thought it might be backlight bleeding, but in a completely black screen, I didn't see too much of it. Maybe you guys can be the judge: These are a couple of pics of a black screen at a few different angles: pic1 pic2 pic3

Here is that DAMN stuck pixel: pic4. It is just 1 pixel and I zoomed in on it. Honestly, hardly visible except when there are dark colors around it. Any help in making this go away will be helpful. Otherwise, I will post more pics of unboxing and final impressions tomorrow.

--edit- I very quickly just tried the pressure method where you get the tip of something and put pressure on the pixel, but I don't think that works too well with these monitors cause the pixels are so damn small!!! Guess I can try leaving jscreenfix on overnight or something, but I have a feeling that won't help to much.

Just got my Catleap in today, it's a tempered glass without speakers from Green-sum. The stand sucks balls. However, I had planned for this and gotten myself an Ergotron MX monitor arm and that thing is a beast. Needed a few washers to get the right screw length, but it worked out. I have a 2B model (I ordered mine last Monday).

Comments...

It buzzes :-/ I was trying out the refresh rate tool, and it was buzzing like mad. I'm not sure that I'm getting the full 85hz outta the thing (I'm currently running an HD5770). It seems that I'm dropping frames?

I think I have a few dead subpixels around the panel, but they are not going to be bothering me. I have a piece of dust in the upper right hand corner, but that's my fault (I did open it up). When you open the monitor up, you expose the inside of the glass, so getting it out will be very possible although annoying.

On the internals side, my monitor came with two connections to the logic board; I presume this means 85hz is possible for me?

Anyhow, overall it is a beautiful screen. Perfect? No, not quite. But very good overall. Now to calibrate the thing. The only flaw with my particular panel is the buzzing. I will have to take it apart to see... it buzzes when I ran the full screen refresh rate tool. Seems to depend on what's running? Anyone else get buzzing?

Is it possible that any of the lower right backlight bleed could be the power LED bleeding onto that part of the screen?

Does it buzz at 60hz? If not, it just lends credence to the growing argument that these panels aren't made to run over 60hz...

The buzzing is quieter and lower pitched at 60 HZ and steadily grows as I go up in refresh rate.

I got my Catleap today! Thanks to everyone from OP in both threads on [H] to Brucethemoose at OCN to all the people who took the leap and took the time to post all their experiences. If it hadn't been for everyone sharing info I wouldn't have found this deal or been convinced to try it out myself. THANK YOU!

This thing rocks. Rich color and sharp as hell at this amazing rez. No defects at all or none that I noticed yet. I haven't tried to OC it...well CCC won't let me take it past 60hz @ 2560x1440 and im too busy trying out content to try harder than that.

I got the SE version no speakers, 1 DVI input, no glass from green-sum. It took them from Monday until Friday to ship it, but it got to Oregon this morning which I though was pretty amazing.

Going to try some games!!!!

I'd go with two 19" 1440x900 for your side panels. They'll be a tad bigger vertically at 16.1" on the long side vs 13.2" on the short (vertical) side for the Catleap, but with the resolutions the same, desktops will stretch nicely across them.

It will look something like this (size is scaled properly):

This 108.00 asus looks like it *might* have vesa mounts.

This 99.00 AOC definitely does.

Or go a little spendy with the 129.00 samsung

The biggest problem with any of these is that they'll look like sh*t compared to the Yamakasi. :)

Just wanted to add to this thread: My Shimian-Lite appears to be DOA. I can power it on, and it looks like the backlight is functional. The monitor won't sync to anything. ATI Catalyst recognized the monitor as a QH270, but always says the status is "disabled".

This is with an Asus EAH6950 DCII driving it, which should be fine. I double checked the DVI-D port and the cable as correct. I will try using my work laptop tomorrow night, but for now I think it's borked. Sigh. Gonna have to pay for shipping to Korea now. :(

the card only has 1 dual-link dvi
you sure you're using the right one?
they look identical

Red-Cap shipped mine today (email notification received Monday @2:16am), I paid Friday morning. It should arrive at the earliest on Friday due to the slooooooooow Canadian Customs. Not sure where I am going to put the Crossover/1st world problems. Will have to move my desk.

^^ You need a new desk.

And dammit... my 27" incher hasn't arrived yet, that screenshot is killing my tiny 20" lcd :D

Can anyone comment about LED flicker on these monitors...especially if you are sensitive to LED flicker?

Has anyone tried the hand wave test to look for backlight flicker? Turn the brightness down to around 50% or lower, use a white background and then wave your hand in front of the monitor. This video demonstrates how to do it and the effect you are looking for:

As mentioned, one of the dvi ports on the card is only single link DVI and the other one requires the little toggle switch (where the BIOS select is on most cards) be in the correct position for dual link. I would play with this before giving up on the monitor.

You people need to invest in new cameras before you go blowing all this money on a monitor. Between this and the OCN thread, I've never seen so many crappy quality pics

LMAO, i just said that to my wife last night. :D

It was just unbelievable how long it took to see any good pics of a catleap with glass.

Oh shush! We're too busy enjoying our screens to deal with such things as "nice pictures"! ;)

I'm lost in this thread. We've got x number of monitor variants, x number of Ebay sellers...

Then they shouldn't have to sell you this monitor for $370. This monitor is all about the panel. If the other crap doesn't work for you, either:
A) Live with it knowing you have a high-res 27" monitor for less than 50% of the American options
B) work around it by spending some of the massive savings to compensate (aka get a new stand or calibrator) or
C) STFU and don't buy it.
You cherry picked that bit out of my post. I recognized that it's a good deal. Just, the lack of built in color calibration options happens to be a deal break for me, even if it reduces input lag, whatever the price.

Don't buy into this monitors hype. Ever heard the term "too good to be true?" Well what do you expect when there's a Korean $250 knock-off of a $1000 version of the Apple Cinema Display or the $1000 Dell U2711? (It's only $370~$450 on Ebay to pay for shipping costs + markup)

The monitor is complete crap. It has "made in China" written all over it. I ended up getting the Catleap Q270 model which is pretty much identical to the Achieva Shimian. These are the issues I'm having:

-crappy cheap plastic to where pieces broke off during shipment
-wobbly stand and has an obvious lean to the right
-massive colorshift where the white turns to a white-ish yellow towards the bottom of the screen
-Unable to "overclock" past 65hz as all the new models no longer support this feature (probably for a good reason)

I didn't have these problems but these are also common problems you'll most likely have if you get one of these monitors

-dead pixels & dust behind the glass if you get the tempered glass model
-massive backlight bleeding all around the bezel of the screen
-faint horizontal scan lines

It's still a hell of a deal though being able to get these monitors for around $350-$450 on Ebay. You can literally have 3 of these in nvidia surround or amd eyefininty for the same price as one ACD or U2711. What you pay for is what you get though. Don’t keep your expectations too high. Not trying to be negative just trying to help a few people out from jumping on this over-hyped bandwagon like I did.

I appreciate you sharing your opinion. There's a lot of hype in here but I get the impression that it's all due to the fact that these are so cheap for what they are.

My hardware calibrator has done a good job at "fixing" the colours. I know not everyone has one, but mine's a cheapo $120 dollar one that I've used for matching half a dozen screens now. Mind you, even if I had to pay out of pocket for it, that's $500 for a calibrated, 1440p, IPS, tempered glass screen with VESA mounting. I'm not sure why you need a built in calibrator?
