Dell U2412M

This shows as as more expensive for me....

Price jumps to $313..

Yeah, it doesn't stack :(

I'm debating this, a 120hz monitor, and the zr24w right now. But since I don't have a colorimeter it seems like the dell will be better at $75 less.

X-IPS, 120hz, 16:10, 3000:1 native contrast, 2ms response time, 4mm bezel, no LED's, push buttons, matte black, full height, rotate, tilt, swivel, perfect color...yes, this is what I want.

anybody played a PS3 on this monitor? I own it and don't own a TV and I want to buy a ps3.

does it work and does it look decent?

It will not be good for a ps3. There are no scalers so the picture will be streched vertically and there are no speakers.

Just recieved mine this past weekend. It was a worthwhile upgrade from my 2005fpw.

Just my experience with these monitors...bought one and it had some pretty apparent backlight bleed on the right edge of the monitor. Had them ship me another, has the same exact problem except there's also a dead pixel on the right edge as well.

First one was manufactured Jan 2012, second Feb 2012. I'm just going to return them.

And I don't know whats up with their replacement policy. The dude on the phone said it was a "New" monitor they were shipping me. But the screen on the second one was clearly smudged by someone before shipment and they wiped it with a cleaner since it left a residue. I think i'm done with dell.

Hello good people :) I've read some of this topic and as interesting as it is I don't have time for all the pages so I'd like to ask some questions that probably have been answered already, for which I apologize in advance.

I just bought this monitor and I have some questions and would be very thankful for any advice!

1) the glow on mine is predominant on lower right corner, I can never get it to show on pic but it's mostly down right, a little up right and very little on the sides. Here's a very bad mob pic!
novo-042.jpg

Whats worse it seems to have smth bleed-like on the left side (that i cannot take a pic of for some reason) that is - the glow vanishes when I look straight at it but this does not, it just changes "shades" as I move my head. It's not tragic (small surface) but I can notice it on the black background of this forum easily and it's a bit annoying.

2) can you recommend some free software 'calibration'? I cannot seem to get the colors just right. In fact the colors on mine were set in a completely different way so that the settings 10e used for his and that many have found useful made it even worse for me.

3) I've set the dell monitor profile as my device profile in win color management and the text has shrunk since and now it looks as if it would look if it was the wrong resolution - I don't know how to explain properly :( I've returned the default windows profiles and now it looks normal on restart but whenever I run a game (full screen app) upon exiting it's strange looking again. What should I do?

Price is currently $345.45 from Dell (including VA tax..) or $337 from Amazon

Their next batch ships on Mar 30 so I'll probably buy in mid-April, after it reaches the online retailers.

Here's my U2412 all set up :)
Awesome setup

1.) I had to adblock your embarrassingly large image.

2.) You probably want this.

3.) Sounds like you don't understand your OS's settings, probably not the monitor.

If you don't know how to explain something links to pictures can help. You know you can search for an answer, since we don't have time to search for your problems either.

1. Why? It's an image, not a virus :) If you want to see it and it does not fit onto your screen completely you can always zoom out temporarily - or just ignore it completely if you don't. Other than visual size the image is quite small.

2. Thanks! Found that one... was thinking maybe there's a gem out there that wouldn't show near the top results while googling.

3. I was just hoping with this number of pages someone has had the same problem :) Here's a better explanation: when you set custom text size (DPI) in windows to some crazy value the text ends up looking blurred and funny on LCD's. Well my text looked like that all the time, even though scaling was default 100%. I did use google and forum search with no luck so I've fiddled around until I've found the solution - turns out I was looking in the wrong direction, the answer was to "reduce DVI frequency on high-resolution displays" in CCC.

P.S. Did you register the account just to be rude to me? I'm flattered :)

Do you have this monitor, Cosine106 ?
I want to get a monitor 24 inch with 16:10 aspect ratio, IPS panel, for video / pictures / editing, and for web browsing as well. NOT for gaming / movies, because i have an LCD TV 37 inch and i connected the computer to the tv.
Would you recommend Dell U2412M ?
Thanks.

I really want one but I'm waiting to buy until prices drop, since their next batch ships on Mar 30. I'd use mine for mostly browsing, followed by gaming then movies, which is why I like this monitor. It seems really well-rounded.

The reviews seem really solid, with the only complaint being the AG coating that seems to bother some people. There's a 40+ post thread on removing the AG coating if it bothers you (http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1674033)

If you're not going to be utilizing the 120hz you might want something else, but LCD tv's don't render true 120hz if you're a serious gamer

99 pages and your asking a 3 day old member?

I have the monitor, and it's excellent. Currently using it both for gaming and for LR4 duty. Works perfectly.

Yes , i did ask a 3 day old member ? What's the problem ? :)

$332 shipped today with coupon P?F3SSV7VMLXCL I am building a Eyefinity cube and currently have 2 panels with 1 more to buy next month.

FWIW, I tried out a Dell 2412M briefly and have no settled on Samsung's S27A950D. Viewing angle's obviously not as good, but it's a good trade for the IPS glow IMO. Feels a lot faster and color looks great. Most importantly, the monitor doesn't cause eye strain/pain like the Dell. Obviously, it's not in the same price category, but an option for the 3 of you like me w/ broken eyeballs. :D

A 27'' on 1920x1080? What's that used for? I like the design on that thing, I find this Dell to be a bit on the ugly side.

I must say though that I don't know why you're getting eyestrain. I had a lot of it on my previous monitor and now with Dell I have none.

Hi!

New member of the club here. Just bought my U2412M yesterday, so my first impressions are still very fresh but still wanted to share them.

I really LIKE it! It's got nice colours and it's big (compared to my old 20" P-MVA ).

For a small premium the shop offered a guaranteed no-dead-pixel unit with HW calibration and I went for it (you can't buy directly from Dell in this country). The premium was worth it, no dead pixels, no BLB. Maybe a yellowish speck by the right side but I'll have to recheck today - my eyes where hurting from looking at all the panels at the shop.

Mine is revision A02 and it seems that the blue channel is more balanced on these. My calibrated settings are Bri: 38, Con: 74, R: 98, G: 97, B: 96. This gives an edit:average delta of 0.4. Is this too much, should I re-calibrate it?

It's currently setup in a dimly lit location and the calibrated brightness of 38 was too much. I lowered it to 25 first but it was still a tad too bright for my eyes. Settled for 20 in the end. Mind you, this was during the late evening - night, so 25 may be more optimal for a "all-day-long" setting.

Did some light gaming. No noticeable ghosting, probably better than my old display.

If you're still wondering - don't. Go get it now! =P

I just joined the club, too. I replaced an LG246W with the Dell and I'm very happy. Going to let the wife use the LG after I get it fixed. I'm hoping it just needs the two capacitors people were reporting having problems.

Gaming, browsing, movies. It does a superb job gaming. Browsing's ok, provided you're sitting in front and not slouching. Movies can suck if you're slouching. The problem lies w/ the lack of height and tilt. If I could lower this panel to the desk and tilt far forward, movies while slouching would be in perfect view. As it stands, the top 1/3 nearly disappears. :D

For browsing, it's nice because I prefer big letters/font/stuff. It's easier on my eyes in another way...the 470hz PWM's controlling the LED backlight. @ 50%, I do not get aches from the flicker as I do on the U2412m using the shady PWM's. I can't recall their speed, but through a phone camera in front, go from 0 to 100 and watch the lines wig out. Now this doesn't even affect some folks, so YMMV. And I truly do hope it doesn't affect you! I'm also the type of person that will leave my sunglasses on nearly wherever I go as the world's trying to kill me w/ the fluorescents! I have no idea why every building everywhere I go needs to have so many of these things. Lots of windows and some edisons on the desks is all that's needed. /rant

As a non-native speaker I half-understood you there but thank you anyway! :D

I find this 24" to be a bit too much already, I mean: I have to push it backwards a bit so it does not occupy my periferal vision (which tires me) and I imagine I'd have to push 27", not to mention 30" monsters a lot further, which would kinda defeat their purpose in a lot of things, heh.

Browsing and movies must be cool (I always enlarge default text size as I'm not as young anymore) but in games I always preferred screens (often smaller) with more pixel density (forgot the official term?).

But I wanted to write something different!

Is there a way to turn off the blue LED on the power button? Maybe in hidden system menu or something? The freakish shine and glow of most modern stuff drives me crazy as well :)

I know exactly what you mean, I've been there :) Appliances should be made to serve our purposes optimally, not glow in the dark and distract... what's next? Every piece of furniture will play its own little melody by default? lol

Greets,

is this fine monitor capable of smooth gaming (not ultra fast FPS), bot Oblivion, etc?
I don't know 1920x1200 monitors, maybe they skip frames, or are these type of monitors really not recommended for games?

(Although 60 Hz refresh rate perhaps would mean a maximum of 60 FPS, which would be sufficient for me.)

thanx.

yes, it works fine for gaming

thinking to purchase this monitor for gaming. I think I have to order it now.

Thanks

Been looking to replace my Dell 2005FPW (S-IPS) for a while now, and have set my sights on the U2412M. Some of the stuff I have read about flickering has me concerned though. Anyone coming from a 2005FPW that can give me some comparisons and thoughts. I am already used to an AG coating on the 2005FPW, so that isn't a big deal to me, unless somehow it is much worse.

Quick question:

Does the powersupply buzz at low brightness like the U2310 and the u2410 does ?
Please don't start a debate. I owned 2 x u2310 and 2 x u2410 send them all back couldn't stand the buzzing.

@Biosphere I can only say that mine doesn't buzz at low brightness. Not sure about the rest.

I had a question though, mine says Manufactured January 2012, but the Revision number is A00. Does that sound right? I thought it was up to like A02 or something?

USA located. Waiting to jump on deal when on sale. Have not seen much lately, except the camera combo at dell that is now gone.

Made in Mexico, Dec 2011 was also Rev 00 that I have as well. The ones made in China I have are Rev 02. I notice zero differences between them.
