Crytek is announcing a "spectacular" console / PC game next month that will be the "best of that kind of project we've ever done." What does that even mean? Anyone want to take guesses?

Crysis dev Crytek is set to announce a "spectacular" console/PC game next month, the studio's told CVG. Speaking in a GDC interview last week, Crytek's GM of games, Nick Button-Brown teased that the soon-to-be-announced game will be unveiled in April and is "the best of that kind of project we've ever done."

If its anything like their last game then its going to be a big pile of crap.

Crytek: "It will be the best of THAT kind of project we've ever done"

Interviewer: But you've never done THAT kind of game before...

Crytek: "EXACTLY"

My first thoughts as well. Maybe its new 3rd person simulation where you can be a owner/manager at a gaming company and your goal is to abandon your original fan-base and sell out?

How about a re-release of Crysis 2 that isn't a complete let-down compared to the original, environment, story, etc?

So this is an announcement of an upcoming announcement of Crysis 3 coming out for tables and phones as well as the PC/PS3/Xbox360. 360 gamers don't need to worry as they promise it will not be a tablet port.

Crytek is very bad at sticking to what they are good at. They are good at open world, single-player shooters with cutting edge graphics. They are very bad a multiplayer, or stories.

Crytek would be better at Epic's model of making a solid engine and selling that out more than making their own games.

I thought that this was their intent when they were developing the original Crysis. Not to make the best game per say, just to make something that served as a showcase for their engine to show developers what could be done. I could easily be mistaken though.

Clearly not. Though they do emphasize the "CryEngine" trademark a lot.

You lost me at console. It's not going to be spectacular.

Heh, Jbdarkblue, tablet port is funny and something I do look forward to seeing if not just to annoy console players. Yes, next gen consoles will come out with awesome specs and will be held back by tablets and phones and touchscreen specific UI. But touchscreen UI is good for pc gamers as it's mouse like in its point and click instead of scroll and choose. ARM is the next dumb-down of games though.

Or maybe that full contact Bingo name that EA just bought.
lol... just imagining EA telling Cevat Yerli that his studio has been directed to work on Bingo is fantastic.

Oh and Crysis 2 was actually a pretty good game, especially the second half. It just wasn't Crysis.

I found out what it is...

It's saying fuck you to your orginal fan base and eating bags of dicks.

Crytek could redeem itself by making a game with as much hardware smashing ability as Crysis, releasing it first on PC, then making a console port, and forcing the console asshats to face all the PC gamers. :p

Don't they own another somewhat popular franchise that everyone was hoping for another sequel for? I believe it's Timesplitters.

I would love another Timesplitters. That series reminded me of Perfect Dark and Goldeneye on the Nintendo 64. I pray Crytek keeps it as cheesy as the originals and not change it to attract the Call of Duty crowd.

If its anything like the linear corridor sack of that shit that was crysis 2 no thanks. A completely nerfed experience compared to the sandbox style gameplay of crysis or even far cry 1. Jesus what a waste of a amazing graphics engine.

I've read this on numerous forums, i think he has inside information.

There will only be a select few things that will be spectacular about this game:
- how fast it hits $1.99 on Steam.
- The PC version finally being DX10 native. (Notice: I did NOT say DX11...that will come in a patch that was conveniently forgotten about)
- how it makes Crysis 2 look like a best-seller by comparison.
- how quickly Gamestop refuses to give store credit for anymore copies, nationwide.

Maybe it'll be Crysis HD. Consoles seem to love HD remakes of old games :D

Perhaps having always played at, or above, "HD" has made me a bit jaded?

"We are making Crysis 2 the most amazing game we have made yet, don't worry PC gamers, the game is being made for PC first, and being ported too consoles second!"

*All game previews at cons, trade shows etc is the XBOX or PS3 versions*
*Claim they are making the console games cause PC piracy is outrageous, and they need to make money*
*Gameplay style gets completely consolized, difficulty toned way down, enemies move far slower*
*Crytek says that game is a PC port, that PC version will be DX11, a week before games release, say that its not in DX11, but DX9, and DX11 will be patched in later*
*Textures for the whole game are the same as the console versions*
*Final product shows that PC game was actually a port of the console version*
*Crytek bitches and moans cause Crysis2 over all three platforms sold less then Crysis Warhead over 1, blame piracy anyways*

And now Crytek wants me to believe that they are going to make an "Epic" PC game? Haw, you didn't make me fall for it last time, you won't make me fall for it this time.

Another publisher dedicated to heading into the shitter, doubt the company will be around still in 4 years

I stopped listening to their bullshit long time ago.

I do like Wally Beamish's tagline "What if you are nine again..."

Same applies for Crytek, "What if you believe in Crytek again.....Knowing what you know now?"

When someone uses the words spectacular and console in the same sentence, you know they're full of B.S. Crytek had a promising start with Far Cry and Crysis - then they sold out to the consoles. And like any deal with the devil,it will end badly for them. Their reputation is shot,no one believes anything they say.
