Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

Team work is dime a dozen. Most servers are a free for all. You stand next to a person requesting ammo, does your team mate help? No. Does a medic revive a person that is litterally right next to him out of harms way? No. There is a tank on fire, do you think a teammate would help repair it to allow your team to push forward? Hell no. People have different priorities now, and that is simply looking out for number 1. I can't tell you how many stacked servers I've been in where a little bit of team work and strat. could have changed the game.

Yeah, not only did I encounter all of that last night, but me and 3 other random guys used a tiny bit of teamwork to win.

We were playing Seine crossing rush. Our team was stuck attacking one mcom and down to 20 points left. I was finally able to get the LAV away from the morons and take it for myself. I called out to load up in the LAV so we could rush in there. Hardly anybody wanted to get in. People just ran by to get killed over and over again. One higher ranking soldier and a few others managed to take time from their busy schedule and hop in. In a flash we drove right up to the MCOM through no-man's land and armed it. Using the LAV to defend it was over in 30 seconds.

Yeah. People don't have a clue.

I'm glad there is a vehicle based DLC in there to offset the infantry only one.

I was kinda hoping for WWII theme'd DLC though

Can anyone post the info...cannot open link at work. :(

Battlefield 3: Close Quarters – In Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, players are dropped into a frantic, infantry-only theatre of war. Frostbite 2 high definition destruction makes the environment come alive as everything from furniture to plaster gets shot to pieces. Players will feel the intensity of the world exploding around them as rubble and broken pieces pile up on the floor, while tight level design and vertical gameplay create a highly competitive environment. Battlefield 3: Close Quarters also introduces new weapons, assignments and unique dog tags to bring back to the base game.

· Battlefield 3: Armored Kill– Following the tight infantry gameplay of Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, DICE will release Battlefield 3: Armored Kill that ups the ante for vehicular mayhem as only Battlefield can do. Featuring new driveable tanks, ATVs, mobile artillery and more, Battlefield 3: Armored Kill also delivers huge battlefields for an all-out vehicle assault, including the biggest map in Battlefield history.

· Battlefield 3: End Game – The fourth expansion pack will ship in the winter but details remain tightly guarded.

The handsome newshounds of Eurogamer are reporting that DICE have three new Battlefield 3 expansions in the pipeline, as announced at last night’s GDC event in San Francisco. The first one of these new expansions will be arriving in June is called “Close Quarters”. This will apparently focus on “indoor infantry combat with verticality to the map designs”. The new map with this pack is a glass tower block called Ziba Tower. The pack after that focuses on tank combat, while the final one – END GAME – is a big secret and DICE aren’t talking about it to anyone, not even Eurogamer. So there.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? Why the fuck do we need more Close Quarters maps????
Everyone is screaming for more true Battlefield maps and we get this?
OMGOFMGFOGMFOGMFOGMFMG as if Metro, Seine River and Devmans Peak are not enough?!

"...We nailed it..."

There goes my hope of more Battlefield 2 maps ever being converted over.

Well, the 2nd DLC pack is focused on Vehicles so hopefully that redeems it.

I'd like a skyscraper close quarter map.

Do you think they'll have an even larger conquest mode for 128-256 players in this touted "biggest map in battlefield history"? I would imagine 64 would be too sparse. And with the larger armies deployed have, gasp, commander mode?!?!
I dream too much.

Me too, I'd just jump out the windows to put myself out of my misery with the game :D

Are they going to EVER release any modding tools? Or has DLC caused them to hold back. I'd like to see a reality mod for BF3 like there was for BF2.

sadly they said that metro is the MOST PLAYED BF3 map.

so it unfortunately not a shock that we get more of it

Nope, the modders are too stupid to use the tools for FrostBite 2, at least according to EA/DICE

It has nothing to do with the fact that user mods are DLC they can't charge you for.

They need to adopt the Todd Howard outlook on mods

not possible.

no one could play it.

my 2500k and 6950 OC XFIRE struggles to maintain frames in tri 1080p on medium or med/high on 120hz single 1080p.

I would choke and die on a map even larger with that many people on it, and my machine is probably in top 20% if not higher of players

I don't mind DLC like this. To me it shows continued support of a product even though there is clearly a profit ideal in mind. And even if they don't show support through proper patches.

From the "Close Quarters" page:

Publisher: Electronic Arts Developer: DICE Formats: Playstation 3
PC
Xbox 360 Release: June 2012 Players: 2-16 Rating: M+ / ESRB 16

What? :confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

I actually like the close quarter maps. Nice change of pace from the vehicles. Looking forward to this DLC and what ever they got. It would be nice though if they released a free map every so often...

I can't wait for operation shipping container. 64 players, 64 square foot battlefield, non stop clusterfu@$.

Really though I don't see myself playing a whole lot of BF3 until the autumn DLC, definitely not dropping any coin on close quarters maps. Seeing as it drops in june too I suspect they are going to drag on with the "February/spring patch" until mid june just before the DLC, the latest possible "spring" release they can muster.

I don't mind smaller, closer maps, but I do HATE the overall design of Metro. Would of been a more even keel of a map if they decided to put B in the middle of the map where both teams had to go down after, kind of like this: \___/ instead of the given USA___/--------RUS where the Russians get the higher ground by default. They are trying to appeal to everyone I think with this. Also, getting shotgun kills can be damn tricky in most of the maps. I just got my Service Star with the Jackhammer (MK3A1) and it took a long damn time because of the accuracy (I refuse to use frag rounds for a fully/semi-auto shotgun). I hope not in this upcoming DLC, but the one after, which is about being more open, large maps and new vehicles, is that they bring back a fast moving, low damage rocket, kind of like the Gustav from BC2, because it definitely was a great thing to have when trying to bring down helicopters without something guided.

Yes, the lack of any effective way of flanking makes that map a mess. If you could all the way around outside it would be a lot better, and wouldn't devolve into a camp-fest at the ticket lobby. Both Seine and Bazaar have flanking avenues that prevent them from being the same cerap-fest. Perhaps a skyscraper map could be okay if they had more than one staircase, but I'm not counting on it.

i'm ok with some more CQ maps since i still have fun on metro, seine, and bazaar. i'm glad they're following it up with some large vehicle maps though. wish they could release this sooner than June. i'm ready for some fresh scenery.

I've already seen it, it's called "Shipment" and it's in CoD4

My view of cod just got a whole lot more hilarious.

On the other hand though, the close quarters page says there's now HD destruction lol.
The HD Destruction in Close Quarters lets players riddle the environment with bullets, reducing entire locales to ruin. Everything from furniture to plaster can be shot to pieces, and players can see the result of the mayhem as rubble and broken pieces pile up on the floor.

God I really hope they made the environments more destructible. I was so disappointed with BF3's destruction :(

Metro, seine, peak and bazaar are my favorite maps, I'm excited about the close quarters DLC!

My favorite map of all time was in COD4, it was Killhouse. Awesome map with 12-16 people in it...

I just installed COD4, if anyone is interested in playing it with me add me to xfire...

I'm going to laugh if they just give us the LAV variants for the new tanks/artillery. It sounds good, but here's hoping they deliver. I think mobile artillery can be good if done properly (IE: see Battlefield 1942). Not like the mortar click and bomb, but with a two seat artillery (one driver, one gunner) that needs a MAV/Camera/etc to be able to "walk" dumb artillery onto target.

We'll see about the huge battlefields, they said that BF3 was going to have some of the largest BF maps to date and we got the clusterf*ck that is Metro.

people still use Xfire

After the M40, L96 and M98 whats the next best sniper rifle to level? I've been trying the SV98 and it seems to have a huge drop in performance compared to those 3.

Sup MadHatter,

I wouldn't give up on the sv98, it's pretty badass in close combat, have you tried using iron sites just for fun.

Also I heard when the new patch comes out the sniper rifles will be one shot one kill up close, is that correct?

Hmm that first scope they give you with it seems kinda hard to line up headshots. the ^ part seems too thick for long range precision. I haven't tried anything in close combat though. My range is 100-150 meters only, anything else I'm pretty fail.

Just in case it hasn't been posted yet - video from DLC: http://battlefieldo.com/threads/bf3s-close-quarters-gameplay.4122/

I can't see this DLC succeeding considering it is limited to 16 players (supposedly because of the "HD" destruction) and a lot of BF players limit their servers to 32+ in the filter. So it'd never show.

Looks like the co-op map rehashed. I wish EA would make MOH the COD clone and let BF do it's own thing.
