Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

Damn, I would love for some more BC2 maps to be added to BF3, like Mashtuur and Jalalabad. I loved those maps. If only it were true...

There are servers with a plugin that will shuffle the players around at the end of a map if the ticket difference is high.

Actually, the way the game tracks your stats, it does have the capability to balance by skill without relying on just rank. Even with the standard tally board, you can tell which players are good at a glance. So the game really does have a way to properly balance the teams mid game and even better at realizing when a team is stacked without even having to consider rank.

Despite people downplaying the games stat system. Even a basic program can realize it isn't balanced when the top ten players on one side are unrelated and they all have atleast 2:1 kd ratio.

No one stat can tell how good a player is but a combination of them is enough to split players into categories.

I would also love to see a couple from Spec Ops... namely Warlord and Irongator. Irongator was unique in the sense that a lot of the fighting was on the ship since all of the US bases were there.
 
So why do they find the need to keep buffing the stupid LMG's? The class is so retarded.

Also I don't think anyone in BF3 understands teamwork, I remember in BF2 being a squad of 6(wtf did they think when they made it fucking 4?) and taking points behind the enemy lines so we could sandwich them. Not in this though, its 64 x 1v1 everywhere.
 
When are they buffing the LMGs? The only ones that have got an improvement in the forthcoming patch are the M27 and the RPK, which both needed it since they don't have the belt-fed advantage of the other LMGs. And were also pretty poor in comparison to the spread/accuracy of the ARs.
 
I find the LMG's lacking in every scenario except choke-point or area defense. ARs, Carbines, and even PDWs are better if you're mostly on the move. A few LMG's (MG36, QBZ-95, M249) are decent on the move with a foregrip, but I still feel like I'm at a disadvantage when stepping around a corner.

When I really shine with LMG's is controlling an area at medium range with the PKP, M240B, or M60E4. With 3.4x or 4x optics even snipers are easily disposed of. Just keep shifting your position/vantage point and booby trap old locations with claymores. It's pretty satisfyingly devious since you know the guy dying trying to knock you out is building up for a rage-quit.
 
If anything, the only change to the LMG class that needs to be made is to nerf the M249 SAW. That thing is way too powerful and accurate compared to how it is in real life. It gets kills way too easily, which is why all the noobs use it.

I like the M249 but I find myself using the M60 lately.

The SAW is not even close to overpowered.
 
Support class has always and will always be the noobs class, they made it even better in BF3. You get a gun that has better than assault rifle range/accuracy(if you use it correctly obviously) and 3-4 times the ammo, damage is high as well and you even get C4 now. Wouldn't be surprised if they just said fuck it and gave them a med pack next.

Wrong. Have you seen an M249 fired? That thing has about zero recoil. Look it up on youtube, I have easily found a bunch of guys on 1 knee shooting it no prob spray and pray style..

Wow, you saw a guy shooting a SAW on full auto. Did the video actually show the target he was aiming at? I don't think you understand the physics of recoil and full-auto spray - much like the developers of today's FPS games.

Machine guns are not nearly as good as they were in BC2 and still not as fucked up as the PKM was in BF2. Plus the SAW, PKP, and MG36 are getting the nerf next patch.
 
Ran into an aimbotter. Literally headshotting people all over the map with an M249. Was even rubbing our faces in it.
 
Yeah, I had that happen the other day on a 64 man metro rush. Started botting right as we cleared the first mcoms and just destroyed us in the tunnel. He was like 90-0 before he disappeared due to an admin being called in.

Today was the first time I used the USAS in my 250+ hours of game play (mainly to get the unlocks, and counter against someone using it too). Holy shit does this thing create some mad bros. The rage it generates makes me use it even more!

haha yeah I think the three most rage-inducing weapons (usually on Metro or other close quarter maps) are the RPG/SMAW, 320, and USAS.

I use it almost exclusively with a scoped .44 so I have a little bit of reach. USAS is THE most rage inducing weapon on ANY map lol, especially if you are a spray and pray machine like me that blasts faces hahaha. I fucking love sneaking up on people/groups/campers/anything that moves and buck-shoting their shit in the face.

Doing the tea bag dance over their corpse will make them come to a boil even faster too. :)

99% of my play is recon, USAS, .44 scoped, TUGS, mobile spawn. If I stop moving I drop my TUGS and ambush the shit out of people. With the USAS it seems to drive them to spawn near you to try to get revenge, so the TUGS helps me to ambush them repeatedly lol.

It's great fun.....

Just wait until you unlock the frag rounds. People rage over it so much on maps like metro where they're always bunched up. The shrapnel from the frag rounds just tear everyone up.

Jump on a 64 man conquest metro server

Loadout: USAS + Frag shells and Support class (You're going to need the ammo)

Camp the Cafe, and just spray the doorways at the end of each hall where people come in. Usually get at least a kill each clip. Still better than being a rocket whore.
 
On metro I now go buckshot, and run down the stairs on the left side (I will drop a spawn beacon in the locker room - get squad spawning there). I just rush out like a fuckin banshee, jump and spray. If they are bunched up tight, I can usually get 2-5 per spawn lol....they get sick of it fast.

If I am working the down stairs, I will try to get squaded with other lvl 43+ and try to get them all to go USAS.....if you get 4 guys rushing up stairs, you can get in the locker room and fuck their whole team up in 2 tries lol. Just takes some coordination, but 4 USAS's is like a fucking scythe...!
 
Where can I get BF3 the cheapest? I still see it as $40 everywhere I look plus $15 for the extra map pack.
 
Your best bet is to look in the FS/FT forum to see if someone is selling BF3 for ~$25-30. That's what I ended up doing then I found the map pack for $13.

is it me or is the M249 >>> M240B? I was all geeked up to unlock the M240B but once I did and used it for a bit I promptly switched back to the M249.

The M240B is less accurate especially at long distances, the M249 is like a sniper rifle when you one-shot it.

I can't hit SHIT with any of the support guns (other than the shotguns) - it's absolutely pathetic.

I'm great as recon with the M98, same with the M16 and M4 for assault and engineer respectively, but when it comes to support guns I just suck. It seems like they have very little ability to be mobile while shooting, but everyone else seems plenty capable of hitting me in the face with the damn PKP :( When I try the PKP I tend to hit them with the first shot and then mostly the wall/ceiling.

Oh and per that other guy's post earlier in the thread, here are my miserable stats. It's an unfortunate fact of getting older that you end up "playing for fun" instead of playing to win, like I used to in CS. I suppose at least this means I get to spend more time dicking around with jihad jeeps and c4ing people :)
