BF3 Crater Bug...

Anyone else get these stupid crater that show up all over the, and make it look like rockets got dropped all over the place happens to me all the time on Caspian Border. I tired everything a hardware geek could try, so please don't tell me to try to re-install or rollback my drivers. This guy here seems to have the problem too, and everyone seems to just tell him its normal which is not. I really hope you guys can help me figure this out. Out of all the bugs that got fixed since BETA this is the only one that did not make it to the fixing table.

Driver: NVIDIA 295.73 WHQL (Tried every driver all the way back to 285s)

Someone please help me, I feel like DICE is nuts for letting this go unfixed. I would post in the EA forum but people there are a bunch of immature children. I never have any graphical problems with any games. I got 50+ games installed. I just don't know what to do any more. I don't want to build a new PC cuz of this. BF3 is the reason I build such a powerful rig:(.

I will format if it comes down to it, but I got a lot of stuff I would have to back up and so on. Maybe there is another way around it. Have you had this problem? Has a format fixed it for you? Thanx. :)
 
People keep telling me it looks normal I know lol :p But if thats normal then thats ugly.
 
Looks like foliage isn't drawing where it should be for you to cast shadows, leaving the shadows to appear as what you term, "craters". Mine never has looked like that on Ultra (minus MSAA).
 
So it is nomral after all I guess, but the poster above me seems to notice something, could you be more specific. You mean not all the trees and grass are getting rendered how they should? Or their just not there period but should be.
 
you talking about those shadows all over the ground. Like black holes perhaps?

Yeah... It looks like trees etc that should be rendered aren't showing up for him at all. The shadows all over the ground aren't normal, usually there's foliage over them in bf3. Op definitely has something wrong :(.
 
I even down clocked my card to stock settings and same, i tired to reset driver settings since i had my own options set that might of been messing it up but that not it either going to try to reinstall my game next.
 
there is nothing wrong with your game, thats simply how it looks after some kind of explosion on the ground.
 
Wow, I wasn't sure if you were being serious. Yes those are what stays behind when an explosion goes off. Obviously whatever object caused it disappears, but the mark stays.
 
That is totally normal. Those are the marks created from grenades, rockets from the jets, etc. It wouldn't normally be so noticeable but it appears you were playing on a 1000 ticket server which means the server stays on the map for a looong time, giving plenty of time for explosion marks to build up all over the place.
 
Good catch, Colonel. Other than the third screen, which still looks like extraneous shadows, I would say you're right.
 
This guy is trolling.... there are people that do this all day on the official private BF3 forums in battlelog/ingame. Full of kids, and retards that forum.... I swear!

Errr... I am failing to see the point of faking an issue like this with how he presented it. I confuse! :confused:

BTW thanx for all your help guys, I never thought about the 1000 ticket thing, thank you for pointing that out. I installed my game over again going to report back soon.
 
I want to format but I'm having a hard time getting myself to to it because half the people say its normal the other half say its not, plus a format is a cheap fix for everything, what happens if it happens again? I would like to know the root of the problem. IMO a format is not always the answer since I have 50+ games on my HDD and they all work fine. Format over one game seems a lil over the top to me.

EDIT: Well I just took some screens and now I seem to think it is normal. I went in a empty server hopped in a plain, and took these:

As you can see there is no black marks all over the place like in the 1000ticket server. Thanx Colonel!!!! I think the reason you don't see that on your PS3 its cuz the graphics are turned way down and there only 24 people with no 1000ticket games. So there is no way for all those explosive holes to show up with nothing or no one to make them. Thanx guys. Like always HardOCP never lets me down. Thank you guys.

PS: I'm glad I decided not to format, that would of been a big mistake now :)

When you say some people say it's "normal" and the others say it's not, are you talking about having someone right next to you looking at the same scenery as you in-game saying "No, I don't see any dark circular explosion marks, it's solid grass as far as the eye can see."? Or are you talking about people on the forums saying "No, that doesn't look right."

As far as whether or not that *could* happen, absolutely. There's nothing in those pictures alone to suggest that there's anything strange at all going on with your game. If you're seeing that at the start of a round before any explosives have been fired, then no that's not normal. If you're seeing that after the land has been strafed by jets, helicopters, etc, then that's perfectly normal and is exactly what you should see.

I came here to make sure it was "normal" since I payed a lot of money for this computer, if you see that as trolling I feel bad for you. Whats up with everyone thinking everyone is a troll now a days? Geesh. I would have to be a real loser to make a fake thread like this.

People troll like this all the time. like i said.... I still think its trollling, but if not, who cares right?

What you are seeing is explosions dude... if you get Support class, and C4.. then chose the explosion perk, you get 6 C4 sticks... plant all 4 or 6 and splode them kind of near each other. Tell me you don't see craters :/

This is like the people who post on the forums saying "WTF SOMETIMES MY CHANGE VIEW BUTTON DOESN"T WORK WTF FIX YOUR GAME DICE!" literally every week, yet people will reply all day Duuurrrppp, hardcore mode dummy! You can't change the camera view in hardcore servers! lolol

This is a matter of new players blaming the game when something they don't like happens in a video game, when its entirely the users' fault their "problem" exists.
 
I will say this, with the BF series, sometimes you have to reformat. Sorry.

Weird I know but there is something about this game that just causes it to sometimes get stuck in some weird ass bug loop that no other fix solves. I went to the semi extreme of having a dedicated HD just for BF so I could do this about once a month with acronis.
 
This is still going on? Ummm....the reason they didn't show up when you reloaded into an empty server was BECAUSE THERE WAS NOBODY IN THE GAME!!!!!!!!!!! Clearly they show up when lots of explosions happen. And when you are in a game for 30+ minutes, of course that stuff will show up.
 
Format.

Fucking format everything. You've got the infamous BF.Craters/vR Virus that's going around, so no doubt any recent backups will be infected too. Format all that. Any flash drives? Format.

Install the game on an impossibly large battery of floppy disks, and then Form the fucking MAT.
