SNES PC Build Project - Part II

Wow, that's awesome. I laughed my way through the video -- that guy just knows how to make a good narrative.

They seriously need to think about re-releasing these consoles (think how little hardware it would take...a PIC microprocessor with supporting hardware on a 3x3" PCB could probably pull it off). It'd be so much better than the crap they're putting out today :D.

Pretty darn cool! I think i know what my next project is. Marcdaddy i love your setup! What exact Silverstone case model is that? Also what brand of tv stand is that I like it!

Makes me wish I had a broken game console to turn it into a PC. Very awesome project.

Great and seamless frontend for your OS! Is that all part of that software or did you have some other kind of bootloader to deal with Windows 7?

I was almost expecting you to put something inside the hollowed out cartridge.

They kind of do ...do this. You can buy in Wal-mart for like $4.99 or $9.99 a small consolized box that hooks up to your PC that has like 4 oldschool games on it. Like Frogger, Pac-man, contra...or something else. Relatively cheap to buy, disposeable theoretically and kid-friendly games. The issue would really come down to liscensing for titles. Old games for the Nintendo Wii, Nintendo tries to sell for rediculous amounts like $1.00-$4.00 a title. Initally, that sounds like a decent price but if you sold a machine with all 1-2,000 Nintendo original titles on it? Good luck selling that with a $1-2k price tag.

Even if Nintendo somehow became incredibly generous and willing to eat their own Nintendo Wii casual crowd sales and purchases online...for 1/10th the price. So the unit costed between $100-$200.00 not counting the $4.99 worth of hardware :p. I think post people would go ... "$99.99 xbox 360" which 'current gen high-defition console' or a "machine that's 1/10th the resolution, 20-years old and comes with incredibly ugly-looking games that were once entertaining but might no longer be entertaining, etc."

I mean honestly. Contra 3 was amazing in it's day. However, if you gave me the choice of Battlefield 3 or Contra 3, I'd have to play Battlefield 3.

I'll let you know the model number of my Case I can't remember off the top of my head. The base for my TV is from Ikea ( $39 )

I didn't use any bootloader - just Windows 7 and then Hyperspin auto loads (it's shelled into Windows in place of explorer.exe).

I was sort of disappointed that I didn't get to make the cartridge "do" anything. In the NES build I had used the cart to hold the harddrive, so it had a function in the build rather than just looks, but I couldn't get a SSD to fit in the SNES one since I had to cut it in half.

I've been looking a little reading about the SNES/PC project for the past few days now. I'm interested in creating my own, as I have my original SNES equipment as a child. My only concern is finding all the components. I did some searching for all the parts, found a few e-tailers, but I was hoping for the original links by DaBuddMon.

In addition, I was looking into details for the soldering job to connect the SNES Connectors to USB. I'm wondering if I could buy SNES to USB connectors, rip them out of the container and put them in the SNES to make the work a little easier.

I'd appreciate any help, I'd like to start this project soon by ordering all the parts, then piece it together in the free time. Thanks!

What is the name of the very first song in the video? I know that I know it but I can't seem to place my finger on it.

That was incredibly well done! Both the project itself as well as the video were clean! Nice job, I'd pay for an snes pc ;)

Unless you want to spend the time...just grab something like this (2-SNES to USB adapter). Easier to spend $12 IMO unless you're really handy with a soldering iron and want to learn how to do it yourself. I've got one for a NES controller also on my hyperspin HTPC.
