Funky Deal: 16GB Samsung SSD for $18.99

completely missed this due to a non voluntary hiatus, but looks to be a great deal.. Especially for a *nix server. I bought the smallest cheapest SSD I could find a while back (30 gb corsair used for 40 or 50 bucks) for my Fedora server & it made a huge difference. I Would have certainly jumped on this deal for at least probably 4 of em (I have a daughter & 2 nephews I am going to build little *nix machines for).

Dont know whats wrong, on mine i get a BSOD if i plug it in anywhere on my computer.

Windows 7 Embedded Standard uses about 3.4GB IIRC, but that's how my company has it configured.

We use these drives in some of our instruments running Windows 7 Embedded.

Extremely fast boot times. (Then again, the instrument also has a Core 2 Duo 2.6GHz CPU with 8GB of RAM).

Seems outdated compared to PCs, but for a spectrum analyzer, it's more than plenty. Before that they were shipping with 1 GHz Celeron M CPUs / 1GB RAM / XP. :D

are you trying to boot from it before wiping it clean? it did the same for me when i tried to boot from it without reformatting. was going to look what was on it before wiping it. after wiping it and a fresh install of windows, it worked.

Perfect for my htpc. Was using an old PATA drive. Imaged it over to the ssd. Mediabrowser menus/images are much snappier.

Nice, I wish I'd thought of that when the deal was still on. :)

Win7 is only around 6gb if you disable system restore + hibernation, and make the page file smaller. So, this would work for a really small box :).

LOL Didn't even know I could disable Hibernation mode. Only had 3gb left on my Raptor 36gb. Now a whole 6.9gb. :)

Thanks!

Not trying to boot from it at all. Just trying to add it as a second drive.

The four that I ordered arrived as promised. I'm using one as a system disk for OpenMediaVault (a distro based on Debian Squeeze) in a HP N40L microserver. After a week or so of testing, I couldn't be happier with it.

I am also running mine in an HP N40L, but I prefer OpenIndiana running Napp-It as my primary OS. To each his own. :)

Did anyone who happened to snag a few extras of these be willing to sell one (or several)? This is just what I was looking for to run my ZFS box.
