Your favorite monitor of all time

My favorite was and always will be my venerable Sony Trinitron 21" CRT. Even though I've since replaced it with a 22" IBM LCD, no modern monitor will ever match the CRT's colors and accuracy.

Not ever? :)

My favorite -- another vote for FW900. Probably my favorite (and most expensive) computer purchase ever. Amazing computer image quality and also the best HDTV picture I've seen. (Though I've never actually seen a Kuro in proper lighting conditions...)

Was reading a bit about the Sony OLED pro monitors. If I had an extra $6K laying around would love to have one. However, the burn-in issue does still look scary...

For me it has to be my old 30" Apple Cinema Display I bought back in 2005, when they had their first big price break. That thing was an OMFG  when I first plugged it in and played WoW and HalfLife2 on it. Even my current triple Dell 2709W Eyefinity setup is not as cool as that single display, mainly being the resolution of 2560x1600 was so sharp/clear.

My next display upgrade will be ditching the Eyefinity setup, and going for the best 30" available. Is there any word on a higher resolution display coming than 2560x1600 ? I would love a 33"/34" display with like 3200x2000 resolution, if there ever will be such a display

For my Home Theater setup, just ordered the Plasma Samsung PN64D8000, BestBuy had a deal for $2399 on the 64" model, delivers Monday, hope I like it. Worried about all the Plasma issues I hear about; Buzzing...burn in...etc. I looked at the LCD/LED models, but they look too bright even on darkest settings hurt the eyes, the colors looked off like cartoony or fake almost, and the off angle viewing on LED TV's looked very bad. Plus the "Soap Opera" effect on LED TV's doesn't seem as apparent on Plasmas.

Probably my Dell 2408wfp that I managed to get off ebay in excellent condition. After having only used TN LCDs, seeing a nice S-PVA panel is wonderful. Unfortunately it's stuck being a secondary monitor because the high input lag is noticeable in fast-paced racing and FPS games. If it wasn't for that I'd probably be using it as my primary monitor.

Mitsubishi Diamond PRO 2070SB - best/last CRT I ever purchased.

I can't believe I spent $800 on it while going to college/living at home with parents...

^^^^^^
YES! NEC 2141sb-bk (same thing i think) - greatest display I've ever purchased. I still miss it :(

ahha I too spent $800 on mine while going to college but had to pay rent for my apartment. Many months instant mac and cheese along with instant ramen...well worth it.

and I'm loving my panny 37s1, I'm gonna be a sad panda if this thing dies on me.

Yes, obviously Sony FW900 CRT. I've had just about every high-end display setup possible and the FW900 comes out on top. People that have never used one just do not understand. ;)

21 inch trinitrons are a close second to me. I ve got three in good working condition, only use one for my computer. I use mine only for games/media and usually only at night.

I'd have to go with my trusty Dell 2001FP, which I bought sometime around 2004 (I think it cost around $700, which was a screaming deal for a 20" monitor at the time, I recall Samsung 21-inch LCDs going around $1,200 at that point) and I'm still using now. I think I'm going to be replacing it soon with dual 24s for just a bit more than half that price, but the thing has held up surprisingly well over the years.

I love my 20wmgx2. I'm really regretting not buying a 2nd when I had a chance a few years back. Still haven't come across a display that's quite as good (Apple's 27" is close... but sadly doesn't work with my video card).

The Dell 2005FPW that I still use is my favorite of all time. It was so bright when I pulled it out of the box (wow, almost 6 years ago) that I set it to "0" brightness and it's still setup that way today.

Good image quality + built like a tank + greatest stand in monitor history

:Sigh: the death of the quality 20 inch lcd.....

We ve all been using computers for a long time. For a lot of us our window into the digital world changes yearly. Yet,for some, there is that one monitor that you wish you never got rid of. The screen that you wish had worked for just a few more years. The monitor that we have a soft spot for.

To me, that monitor its my Dell 2007wfp.

(note, not my image or monitor, credit goes to http://byfai.com/content/dell-2007wfp)

A 2006 model lcd, it stands at 20 inches with a native resolution of 1680x1050. Tiny and low res compared to what is widely available now. However, it came before the age of 6 bit E-IPS, 16:9 ratio and wide gamut, not to mention the tn panel glut that floods the market. In those ways it has not yet been surpassed in usability or quality. Composite and s video inputs allowed this model to connect to anything you wanted to see. The excellent vga connection ensured legacy support and console compatibility. Furthermore the interpolation and accurate scaling (1:1, 4:3 and stretch) ensured that you could view any source the way it was meant to be seen. And of course, S-IPS colors and viewing angles. (plus functions awesome as a usb hub with 4 inputs) The icing on the cake was its base, which allowed the monitor to turn, tilt and have an extremely useful portrait mode. My brothers 149.99 led monitor only tilts 20 degrees.

Ive got over 20,000 hours on mine, which is a while for a single monitor. :Sigh:, I know nothing lasts forever, so I've researched how to replace a CFC backlight :p

So whats the one you cling on to, the one that got away.

I have almost 49000 hours on mine.

I really wish the psu on my 24" soyo topaz s hadn't crapped out on me. It's in the closet waiting for me to learn how to fix it (replacement psus are not as easy to locate now as they once were ). My nec 23" is nice, but I miss the extra 120px. Loving portrait mode though!

My current Samsung 950D is my favorite, much prefer it to my 27"iMac.

My old Dell 3007 comes a close second but 2560x1600 is too problematic without multiple GPUs.

Wow! I have a 27 iMac, love the display, just ordered the 750D from Tiger Direct. I personally can't stand motion blur, my F2380mx samsung is horrible for blur, it makes games and even movies unwatchable.

So you would say the 950d is better then the imac display?? Is the contrast comparable? How about color and clarity?

I am mainly looking for how it is for gaming ( the 950d/750d)

How is the glass on the samsung? Does the reflection have a wavy plastic look or is it like glass with a perfect reflection?

LG L245WP Rev.2

Had it since 2006.

The best monitor i have personally owned, repaired once (bad caps) but is definetly hanging on by a thread, i will have to replace it shortly and havent settled on anything yet.

The monitor I fell in love with was the 24" FW900. That sucker blows all the LCDs out of the water.

I didn't have a car at the time, I had to lug that sucker from the store, to the bus, to my barracks...

I miss sound of the cathode tube warming up and firing...

oh man, I remember just lugging it from the front door to our office was quite the task, I was also pretty young though, haha.

Burn in wasn't a big deal for me, I just made sure to never have a static image on it the first maybe 3 or 4 months I used it. My tv makes no noticeable noise unless you stand right by it.

To me the 950D is more vibrant. It's only when you place them side by side that it's noticeable. Contrast wise they are similar. The iMac is clearer but then you consider it's much higher resolution it's hard to tell if it's the panel or the resolution. In terms of the glass, its a little less reflective and a little more 'plastic' looking. Color wise the Samsung allows adjustment of RGB so they can look identical, but out of the box it's warmer on all settings... The iMac looks blueish next to it.

Easy.

My NEC 2490. Best monitor I have ever owned. Never regretted buying it for a second even though it was very expensive.

IPS with A-TW give the most stable LCD viewing angles (very similar to CRT) but with much better sharpness than any CRT ever had, and better color than I have ever seen on a CRT.

If there was a fire it is near the top of the list of material objects I would save.

I am loving my new Samsung Plasma HDTV, picture quality is way better than the LED I returned, watched the Empire Strikes Back BluRay  The blacks were inky true black, and colors were very natural and realistic, not the cartoony bright LED colors I did not like on the other TV. Plus no ghosting whatsoever.

How many hours it has been used can been seen in the service menu.

Is the number in hours? My old 2005fpw only shows '121' in the service menu and it's been turned on ever since it was taken out of the box.

2407wfp been using it for nearly 6 years. Better now that I have three of them. Was never a fan of CRTs liked the picture and scaling but would irritate the hell out of my eyes and make them tear after a while.

But really want to upgrade to a 3007wfp or u3011.

I'd also have to say 2007wfp - it was my first flat panel and changed my way of looking at monitors. I had it for years, all the up until running it portrait alongside a 2408wfp. Gave it away a few years back, but it marked my transition from CRT to LCD so will go down as maybe the most important monitor I've owned.

My favorite though... well, I'm really liking my current zr2740w. It is the largest single screen I've owned and I actually prefer it over 3x2408wfps in eyefinity.

How did you measure 20,000 hours on yours? I've been using my dell 2407wfp since 2007. So 4.5 years and still working great.

How many hours it has been used can been seen in the service menu.

I love my Dell 2007wfp and I have you beat by a long shot... LOL 5.1 Years of use on this display and it still running strong. I am so glad I got given this as a Christmas present vs a TN monitor. Love live awesome displays.

Also in my house a kuro 111fd that looks awesome black levels are killer.

I can't pick just one, since not every monitor is designed for the same purpose.

Games: My new 120hz samsung s27a750d
Movies: My 42" panasonic plasma
Everything else: My dell 3008WFP + 2007FP monitors in PLP

An unfortunate consequence of my visceral immersion?... Now I can't afford any other hobbies.

Woa, nice. I got mine as a graduation gift in 06. Best grad gift ever. My current one is a replacement, but that doesn't bother me.

SAME!

In fact, I'm trying to replace my G2410's @ work w/ these or something else that's less threatening to a light sensitive user like myself. Even the U2410's we have here drive me nuts! I'm not sure if it's the dot pitch, the type of CCFL used, or the specific S-IPS panel, but I can stare @ it for hours wo/ issue.

My favorite Monitor is the one I'm still using, but going to be upgrading soon. To this day, it still looks absolutely amazing and runs flawlessly..

my NEC 20WMGX2

Its so damn beautiful. But it's time that I go bigger..... still best 600$ I've ever spent and will have a permanent position as my 2nd monitor :)

I love my 20wmgx2. I'm really regretting not buying a 2nd when I had a chance a few years back. Still haven't come across a display that's quite as good (Apple's 27" is close... but sadly doesn't work with my video card).

Dude, I hear ya. This thing still is the most pretty monitor I have seen...

I still have - and use! - the Iiyama Visionmaster Pro 510 (A201HT) that I purchased in 1999. Every once in a while, somebody will comment on how big and old it is, usually in a derisive manner. (That is often followed by a comment about my "antique" 1989 Model M.) I typically say something deferential and smile. They think I'm smiling sheepishly when I'm really smiling at their ignorance.

I noticed a lot of 20WMGX2 love in this thread and even tho the FW900 CRT is my all-time #1 I did own a 20WMGX2 for awhile and it's easily my 2nd choice. It was bright, had accurate colors, S-IPS panel, zero back light bleed and the black levels were especially good even by today's standards (1600:1 contrast).

The only reason I eventually sold it was due to its smaller size but I'd have to admit even my current LCDs don't look as nice overall.

My Samsung PX2370 is a TN panel so it's nice for gaming and has surprisingly good color but the backlight bleed, weaker black levels and wicked viewing angle gamma shift take it down a couple notches vs 20WMGX2, my Samsung 2333T has awesome black levels (C-PVA) but the colors aren't as accurate and the weak motion clarity is an unfortunate downside to PVA so it's not the best choice for gaming, Great for movies tho.

Computer monitor I guess would be the u2711 but it's mostly because it's all I know, I wish I would have been smart enough to snag up a monitor with an ATW Polarizer (specifically a NEC) However when it comes to video nothing I have seen comes close to my Pioneer 5020 (KURO 9g) if only I could have afforded an elite.. Oh well with the grayscale calibration hack they are pretty close.
