What games have you stopped playing because of severe bugs?

Right now, Alan Wake. Waiting for Nvidia to release a SLi profile.

Game that I am mad at? Darksiders. I probably need to try and play it with a controller.

I played through Batman Arkham City right when it came out while the DX11 was broken. Played in DX9 and loved every minute of it.

I cant finish a Supreme Commander skirmish due to crashing. It frustrates the ehll out of me since it's one of my all time faves. I havent played it in a long time, though, so I count it as having quit.

FO3 & FO:NV

Stopped due to corrupted saves... every damn time I've tried playing them.

Semi-bug issue... Blade Kitten

Every play session would end up with me feeling sick. I've read that some people have this issue.

Skyrim. Was loving it then I had a quest I couldn't finish, and the damn dragons stopped giving me dragon souls when I killed them. I'm thinking they've patched it all up by now, but meh.

Never had much of a problem with the STALKER games, modded or unmodded. The Fallout games, yeah, that engine has to go. I stuck with them because the games themselves were so entertaining, but there were times I came close to giving up on them.

Gothic 3 - that game had SOOO much potential but was just ridden with bugs that basically killed the series!

Yep, this is the game I had in mind when I saw this thread. Gothic 3 was truly in unplayable territory when it launched. To be fair it has been through some major community patching since then, and now is more or less fixed, but it still seems to be rough around the edges. Even so, it is a great action RPG. I always enjoyed the gameplay more than Elder Scrolls, if only the game were as smooth running and polished as ES games. Not saying ES games like Oblivion and Skyrim were picture perfect at launch, but compared to poor Gothic 3, they ran like a dream!

Fallout New Vegas with the corrupted saves. It's really too bad because I really like the game, but it's hard to play when you can't load your game.

Also the STALKER games. Too many bugs with quests drove me nuts.

Sacred 2, they didn't finish the game.

Oblivion...mods were needed to fix the game, not to complete it but it was annoying enough.

Not exactly a game that was full of bugs or anything... but I stopped playing Darksiders because of a bug that corrupted my save. Didn't feel like redoing everything up to that point.

Same here played on Gothic 3 BAM !!!, I couldn't load bec of corrupted save.

Didn't feel like to play Gothic 3 again but maybe in future, oh damn I love that game.

Anarchy Online. I followed the game and participated heavily online for TWO YEARS before it was released. I pre-ordered two months before release. It took 6 weeks for me to put it down and never go back due to bugs that were just plain game killers.

It was possible to randomly get locked in a building/quest and never be able to get out. The official response? Create a new character. No we can't move your character to a neutral area and no we can't restore to you anything that the old character is carrying OR has in the bank.

Fallout 3 I'd say. I had major slowdowns when using the VARS system I think it was called for targeting, then I ran into some weird obscure issue with the game starting and then closing right away which appears to be related to the DRM the game uses, I went a long time without figuring that out, then I ended up building a new machine and installed it briefly but never got back into it. I'm still tempted but it was very disappointing. I ended up losing my game save that I spent ~20-30 hours on during the attempts to get this stupid game to run.

Arma... At the time, it wasn't available in Canada for purchase locally and wasn't on Steam. My friends were playing so I figured I'd get myself a copy through the Sprocket download service. Well the game got screwed up, so I re-installed... well it took 3 weeks to get it re-activated after waiting for them to send me a new activation code. Sometime down the road I re-installed my OS and they dint respond, so I was never able to activate it again.

Arma II... Got it on steam and my friends were playing it, so I figured I'd take a gamble. I got it installed and started playing, got stuck in a bug on the training mission. Never did get past that and start playing the game. Updated graphics drivers (ATI) and then the game just started up with a black screen.

Never touching Arma again...

Age of Conan and Dead Island. I just could not keep playing these games. AOC had a nasty memory leak and persisted though retail. Dead Island was just awful. I forget how many times my co-op games were messed up due to syncing issues.

I stopped playing Fallout 3. It had worked fine on my E6400 and 9800GT system, but as soon as I went to my G73JH, it started to crash at random intervals (sometimes after 10 minutes, some times after an hour). It just wasn't worth it.

Since I gave the old system to a friend, there was no way for me to finish it. Which is a shame, because I actually liked the grey drab monotone much more than New Vegas's essentially tropical paradise wasteland.

Weirldy enough, every other Bethesda game I play works fine (Oblivion, Skyrim, and FO:NV, I have around 500 hours total in those three games combined across all of my platforms).

I cant believe nobody has mentioned Rage yet. I got about 10 seconds into that clusterfuck before I shut it down. Risen was really bad too. Not bad enough I quit playing all together, but I rage quit a few times.

I thought about writing that, mainly because I only got maybe 6 minutes total in the game before I quit, but I don't really think of it as buggy per se.

More of just really crappy execution. Nothing that prevents me from playing, but a lot that makes me not want to play.

Daikatana

Dear God,don't even mention that game, just remembering it makes my eyes hurt! Only game I can recall where I didn't get past the first level before I threw it in the trash. Don't know which was worst, the boring, frustrating gameplay or the awful, garishly colored graphics.

Far Cry 2. Mainly the story line NPC's. Sometimes they'd refuse to talk to me, or would perform erratic movements. That and the voice acting was terrible.

Far Cry 2
Splinter Cell Conviction
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2
Fallout 3
Oblivion

BF3 for me, I was excited to play it, but all the ctd and server being full while I'm loading, the game just doesn't want me to play. I only played it 2 hours after launch, I just gave up on it.

Fallout 3 on PC. Waste of money.

I feel like stuttering is one of those issues that a lot of people can be naive to, sort of like input lag. I can't think of how many "works fine for me"s I've heard from PC gamers over the years :(

wow, I had NO problems with this game even on the initial version.

  • Age of Conan crashed a lot, had issues with SLI and more importantly had bugged quests which couldn't be completed. Much of the content after level 55 felt and looked very much unfinished. As a result, I finally threw in the towel and never went back. It's sad because it was the first MMO I truly enjoyed up to that point. [/I]

  • Me too. I can deal with crashes and glitches, but when I can't complete a quest chain is when I get seriously annoyed.

You should give it another go now it's free to play. Solid as a rock, tons of new content, and still one of the best looking games I've played as well as a lot of the loading sections being almost instant due to engine refinements/hardware advances.

A lot of the content and classes is unavailable to free players, but they give out free premium months every so often if they see you've logged in recently. Just got one last week.

You'd think the buggiest games would be less subjective... but I've had zero problems with the vast majority of the games mentioned. Games I've quit due to bugs... I'm not sure. My first time through Deus Ex I quit when my save game got corrupted, and didn't try again for a few months.

I have almost no desire to go back. At present I'm enjoying SWTOR and once Mass Effect 3 comes out, anytime I'm not working will probably be spent on that.

While I hadn't run into any large glitches, I did take a break from Skyrim after they announced what the 1.4 patch would contain. Up to then I had been doing more exploring than questing, but I was starting to focus more on quests, so I figured I'd wait for 1.4 to fix up a bunch of quest and script glitches. I ended up replaying Dragon Age: Origins in the meantime.

ToEE until Co8 came out.

Lands of Lore 2.

Icewind Dale 2 until a week ago I found a mod that removed a gamestopper.

B17 Bomber for Intellivision.

The Darkness 2 demo hard froze my PC.

What bugs did you have with Lands of Lore 2? I must have played through that game start to finish at least 2 dozen times (On Windows 95, 98se, and XP) and I never encountered any issues.

Burnout Paradise City on Xbox - I loved that game and bought all the content, but when I would play the Island add-on, the game would freeze. The sad thing is, I bought it on PC first - found I could not get all the content, then bought the CD for Xbox - when it was freezing, I figured it was a disc issue so I bought the download/MS Arcade version and the same thing happened. I contacted EA numerous time - no help.

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit - got a good deal on it, but never played it because it would crash constantly and it looked so horrible.

Fallout NV - the "sparkle" bug on nvidia cards drove me crazy and between that and the rest of the bugs, I gave up.

Borderlands - I played it a lot, would have played it a lot more if it was not such a battle to get it to work minimally well (resolutions, FOV, controls, @#$@#$ gamespy, etc)

Black Ops - I marginally enjoy the COD series single player, but the performance issues were ridiculous on a top end machine. I don't need the pain.

Magicka - too bad, I really enjoyed it until the massive slowdowns and performance issues. Why can't a 2600k run a game that should easily run on a Playstation 2?

Space Marine - great game, but the peer to peer networking is just infuriating

Brink - 30fps lock, horrible... everything

BF3 - works great on 1 screen in Ultra, HORRIBLE performance on 3 screens no matter how low I go in detail. Back to BC2 to rebuild my character that EA murdered.

Crasher - so bad the company shut down and they removed it from Steam

Supreme Commander 1 (Steam version) - I bought the CDs, then the Gold pack from impulse, then heck - why not on Steam? Never could make it work.

Renegade Ops - bought this while waiting for BF3 - it was delayed several times, then released with so many bugs that most people could not get it working. By the time they fixed it, my interest and my friends who had been playing it had moved on.

Damn. Burnout Paradise is one of my favorite games of all time. Sucks you had all those problems. :(

Severe eye sores

Get into a big crash in Eyefinity . Seriously was worth it for that alone. Watching a car explode across three screens. Nothing quite like it.
