PC Alan Wake coming soon?

Cool!

This game is sexy.

Gameplay: good, but not quite as fun as max payne 1,2
Narration/Story: Very well done.
Graphics: Beautiful (very nice lighting, surreal environment)

and it is scary (gives me goosebumps)!

Happy to enjoy a game after dropping $25 on arkham city and only being able to stand 15mins of it (not a fan of gameplay). Didn't even bother with skyrim. Deus ex could have been cool, but it started making me dizzy and the terrible cgi compression got on my nerves. Last sp game i enjoyed was crysis warhead ;)

Would you mind sharing some screen-shots so we can see what it looks like with FXAA?

I hope I did this right. They may be large so I'm not going to "direct link" in this thread and break h-scrolls.

Settings are 1920x1200 all the eye candy maxed out. I used fraps and literally took the same exact shot twice. Everything is identical except FXAA Injector off in shot 1 and on in shot 2.

It's easy to toggle FXAA Injector on and off with the Pause button on the keyboard.

The usual disclaimers: I'm using a calibrated IPS monitor. These images may look different on other people's monitors, by their eyesight, personal preferences, etc. etc. Here, in person, I have the FXAA Injector dialed in just right. ;)

1.) Without FXAA Injector: http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/8318/alanwake201202191619413.jpg

2.) With FXAA Injector: http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/8648/alanwake201202191619431.jpg

You should see it when there's more light but fiddling with the FXAA Injector has become a bad habit of mine. ;) It works great with this, Amalur, Skyrim, Oblivion and both Fallout games that I've tried thus far.

The BF3 DX10/11 version works also with Deus Ex Human Revolution but I'm still messing with that. ;)

a post on the Alan Wake Community Forums from Remedy announces that their decision to belatedly bring Alan Wake to the PC has resulted in the game hitting #1 on Steam and making back their investment in porting the psychological thriller to Windows...

"I wanted to chime in here. We are very happy with the sales and hitting #1 on Steam at launch was nothing short of amazing. We recouped our development and marketing expenses during the first 48 hours. And yes, we're certainly very excited about PC"

good to hear they received the support from the PC community...thumbs up!

Glad to hear that.If you build it,they will come.Hopefully this means they will fully support PC in the future.

Cliffy,take notice.

So making quality versions of games for the PC makes money. How 'bout that?

I don't see the boxed version of Alan Wake available anywhere yet...aren't the boxed versions supposed to be released next week...Amazon, Newegg etc don't have it listed...I'm waiting to see the price before deciding if I want to get the Steam version or the boxed version...Steam has the Collector's Edition available for the same price as the Standard Edition until March 1st

So I should just get the CE on Steam then if anything considering the retail status is basically up in the air?

So should I just get the Steam version since it's on sale and the retail version is in limbo?

It depends on how patient you are and if any of that extra content is worth waiting for to you.

If you look over the Steam store listing of everything that you get for $30 I think it's a great deal.

I can tell you right now looking through the PDF files that book sure isn't worth much...at least IMO. The soundtrack is good but it's not even the full soundtrack.

I don't know about you but at best if I even watch or listen to making ofs and stuff like that it happens one time. I personally am someone who doesn't believe that sort of content should even cost extra but that's just me.

After that, I'm really not sure what the physical CE is going to give you over what's on Steam right now.

I was thinking, should I just buy the CE on Steam and then when the retail version DOES come out I should take all the nice stuff but just sell the game/key to someone?

I guess I don't understand the nostalgia in have physical copies. I'd RATHER it be in a digital library somewhere where I could download it at a whim vice storing tons of old boxes of games. Old boxes that eventually get given/thrown away...

It's the idea of having the extra goodies and art books and certain things in hand, instead of having them digital. Adds more value I think and you can also put them somewhere and show them off whenever.

Well, with this release they do include a ton of content freebies with the game. Both regular and collector's edition.

It's not just a cardboard box with a DVD inside.

While I am a fan of digital distribution, I do miss these "proper" releases where you would actually get a nice manual, a map and/or some other goodies.

I still have an Icewind Dale manual on my desk from 2000. 12 years later, I still like to look at it. It's not just a manual with 15 pages and credits. It's a freaking book with over 150 pages.

Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights had HUGE manuals/story books that come with the games. Very old school like that. But I just bought the Steam CE version, considering how much the retail version is in limbo. I might buy the retail one later, take all the nice goodies and then sell the code to someone or use it to trade via Steam.

I really wanted to like this game, I just couldn't (I played half of it). The parts during the daytime I really enjoyed. It kind of reminded me of Heavy Rain a little. The parts at night just got annoying and extrememly repititious. Really good story from what I got to experience, I just couldn't deal with the night "action" parts as I mentioned.

i started playing today. i can see me getting tired of running through the forest pretty quickly.

All games are repetitive.

All games are repetitive.

some more than others.

I still have hopes for this game but if it's like the reviews say and this night crap of constantly running from one light source to another keeps up I may not finish the game.

And what's up with those batteries? They last like 15 seconds on high.

I guess.. But all games are repetitive. It's like calling the sky blue. The question is.. Do you enjoy the repetitive gameplay. Which makes it 100% user opinion :O

I just finished episode 3 last night.

I can't wait to finish it.

As in I hope it ends soon. Good story but this same old running through the woods over and over again is getting tiring.

supposed to be released on April 3rd but I don't see the game listed anywhere yet for retail...what happened now?...another delay?

am I missing something here?

I finished alan wake on PC some time ago.

edit: looks like you mean a box copy. *shrug* I couldn't care less about having the box.

yes some people are still waiting for the retail 'boxed' version and all the collector's swag :D

What swag are you waiting for?

The soundtrack is good but there's a more complete version you can buy off of Amazon right now.

If the book is the same content as the PDF files I got with the Steam version, I'm here to tell you IMO at least: That book is garbage. It's a journal. It's not an artbook or some awesome "making of", either. You can probably find it all over youtube and see it for yourself.

I*'m actually just waiting to see the price of the retail boxed version...if it's the same price as Steam or a few bucks higher then I'll get the boxed version...if not I'll go with Steam...I'm in no rush to play so it's no biggie eaither way

I guess I need to get back into this and finish it. Good game that takes a mood. I find that I play it in relatively short bursts.

Same. With the lights on. With the volume low. And a teddy bear.

This game constantly scares the shit out of me hahaha
