Kingdoms of Amalur

Right. I was strictly talking about just the mechanics themselves.

The mechanics are pretty over the top. I can't Imagine Geralt air juggling enemies, switching to a bow when they hit the ground, adding a flourish and finally finishing with a spear created out of his spirit to the mouth.

It works fine for the very high fantasy setting like KoA, but adding it to TW2 would be like adding Batman AC fighting to Gothic 2.

Spot on.

I'm really enjoying the game, and i'm only level 12. I went pretty much full finesse minus some points in might for imp shield/hp. I do like the crafting system so far, and the loot is pretty awesome.

I was at home for lunch today so I installed the FXAA injector (preset 1), and I do like the difference.

Me too.

Only thing I did different on my setup out of preset 1 was set FXAA Quality to maximum and gamma to 5. That was it.

It really looks great.

I'm playing a Might/Sorcery build, wearing plate armor and using a hammer while flinging spells. I can do some pretty nutty attacks at level 16. Game is goofy at times but damn it's fun I already have 20+ hours into it.

9 or 10 hours in for me, but I do like it very much so far. I wish you could dual wield :(.

There is a quest bug for me at any 1600p, I can't read my quest text. Its just blank, i'm assuming its a weird 2560x1600 bug, but I haven't found anything about it on google. The quest name shows up, but the description doesn't!

Are you implying that there is a single game in existence that would NOT be improved by adding Batman: AC's combat mechanics to it in some form?

Lightning hammer, frost chakrams, flaming greatsword and magic here for me.

I keep the hammer and chakrams at the ready, then switch to greatsword when needed.

MightSorc build level 21 or so. Loving every second of it. Once you get some points into magic it gets fun. My tactics are generally chakram the hell out of a group, when they've been knocked back, single out a target or two and hammer them, then range someone with ice magic, then another with lightning, back to chakrams for a charge attack, then polish anyone off.

Trolls and bosses usually end up with lots of hammering, unless it's a quick moving boss, then I switch to great sword and guillotine and launch those bastages till they are dead!

Heh, that's a good point. For me that game raised the bar completely.

Folks, try out FXAA Injector with this game. :)

For those with camera/FOV issues, not sure if it's been posted yet but here you go:

http://www.reddit.com/r/kingdomsofa...ttention_pc_players_a_custom_fov_fix_is_here/

Only problems I ran into with it were that cutscene's get kinda wonky at a different FOV.

That's great! I figured one of those guys over at WSGF would probably figure something out especially since the game does have two .ini files in the My Games folder.

Even that article says it and I'll say it again: The FXAA Injector is a must have for this game. Really. Even my graphics artist sister came in and signed off on it yesterday for how much better it made the game look.

Played a bit more this morning, only an hour and a half into it so my experience is very limited.

So far though, the generic setting, voice acting and quests are putting me off...I'm really hoping something happens soon that alleviates this. Graphically I find it pretty painful to look at, I would have (if nobody else said anything) placed this as an original xbox port. I'll need to load up that FXAA injector to see if it improves things at all.

When you clear that first town things open up.

It does. I recommend preset 1 because it's medium on everything and all you'll have to do is a few minor tweaks depending on your setup. In my case, all I had to do is was put gamma from 4 to 5 on the slider and I was set. I couldn't believe the difference. You can use the Pause button on the keyboard to switch on and off on the fly to see the differences and alt-tab in and out to adjust settings anytime you want if you decide to keep FXAA running while fiddling around. Make sure you install FXAA right in the game's root directory where the main .exe file is. It couldn't be easier. :)

You'd think that since FXAA Injector works so well they'd patch in native support for some more graphical options.
I guess the FOV patch should be coming soon, so maybe there's hope for some more graphical options, too.
I still want better view distances. I understand that they don't want you seeing enemies and such from too far away, but it's weird to have large rock faces and whatnot pop out of thin air about 50 yards in front of you. Maybe make the environments have better view distance but obscure enemies/chests/etc. ? IMO, it's distracting as-is.

I don't see why this would be an issue from a gameplay perspective since if you invest in Detect Hidden, the game shows you where all of the enemies are in the entire zone anyway. It's not any more cheaty than what's already allowed.

I am playing at 2560x1600 as well and I have the same problem. The same issue can be seen when trying to view the ingame manual.

Is it possible to show multiple quests on the world map? I hate how I have to click a quest, then go to the map, and try and remember where all the points are. Quest objectives only show up on the local map if they are nearby, which is also very aggrovating.

Also, not sure if anyone tested and knew this yet but you can enable borderless windowed mode just by changing the full-screen setting to disabled from the main menu.

Just checked out some videos for this game the other day - not at all what I expected based on reading about it. It just looks like a Diablo-esque game with Wow-ish graphics and almost arcade-like combo strings. Can anyone tell me if those impressions are incorrect? Not trolling, just curious. Have heard a lot of comparisons between this game and Skyrim but at a glance they look nothing alike to me.

This is nothing like Skyrim, other than the fact that is has a large game world to explore and tons of quests to do, if you want to do them.

I don't see how Diablo would fit in their unless you are broadly comparing them as RPGs. "Wow-ish graphics and almost arcade-like combo strings" can be an applicable partial description however.

Theres a DLC - Weapons and Armor Bundle ??

I was reading that most people are saying that it's a good set for those who aren't too far into the game yet, otherwise you probably already have better gear than what it offers.

The POV and action style on the videos I saw reminded me of Diablo and Torchlight.

It is a third person game, not isometric if that is what you are referring to.

Closer to something like The Witcher 2 but just much more "arcadey" in terms of action/combat.

Right, clearly not isometric, but the videos remind me much more of that style than of, say, Mass Effect or any other 3rd person game that comes to mind. Haven't played Witcher series so I can't compare to that.

Still waiting to a patch to unbreak my game before I pick this up again. The thread regarding it is growing in size quite exponentially, as I assume the rush are people are now starting the finish the first areas. To anyone not aware and are almost done with the first area, when you get to Galette, make sure not do the quest called Her Righteous Fury. It is a bugged quest and will make you incapable of fast travelling. The only fix is loading up a saved game before you started the quest.

Nothing like Skyrim? When thinking of games, I feel this game is most closely related with it. I am not even going to include the obvious ones like quests, map, etc.:

- Pickpocketing
- Sneaking
- Lockpicking
- Alchemy. It's been awhile since I played Skyrim, but I do remember there is a skill where you randomly try to combine recipes - it might not be Alchemy in Skyrim, but it's the exact same.

The only things that I can think of that are different are obviously the graphics, the combat, Skills (like blacksmith, track hidden, etc.), and the Destinies.

Also:
- joining / eventually leading factions
- owning houses that you can sleep + stash gear in
- smithing, crafting gear (I do like the additional complexity of mix-and-match components in this game though)
- enchanting (ok, so it's not called that in KoA -- we all know it's the same concept as gem slotting, enchanting, etc)
- shrines around the world that provide stat bonuses
- flower picking
- floor pressure-plate traps look identical

There are of course many differences as well, but one can not realistically call the two games completely dissimilar.

Might have something to do with the lead designer of Morrowind and Oblivion, Ken Rolston, working on KOA.

I've contemplated getting it, but I don't know if the weapons scale, or are only good for level 1 toons.

weapons don't scale, if 5 bucks isn't gonna break you i'd recommend picking it up. helps getting from 1-10 fairly easy especially on harder modes. Plus you can sell it for some starter cash.

From reading the official koa forums, the items are scaled to the lv you buy them at.

http://forums.reckoning.amalur.com/showthread.php?5125-Armor-and-Weapons-Mini-DLC

So if you say, get them at lv 20, they are lv 20'ish, you get them at lv 30, they are lv 30, etc.

Basically it makes them viable for when you want to use them, and doesn't break the game so you get uber-items at lv 1 (or whenever you choose to buy them).

That makes me sad I got them at level 2 :)

Some of them are really cool looking

That DLC isn't worth it all. Save your money. If you're looting and stealing and exploring a little bit you're going to get plenty of nice gear.

Absolutely. If you took the Witcher 2 and made it a little more exaggerated, you'd get Amalur. While there are elements similar to Skyrim and Mass Effect, the game is far closer to the Witcher 2 than anything else. It's definitely more action/combo based and it has a loot-heavy system like Diablo and Borderlands, but I'd be surprised if Witcher fans didn't enjoy it.

dude thank god! I haven't been able to find anything on google about this so I have been like wtf this entire time. I can only read the texts for faction/main storyline. I can't read the sidequest text anymore.

I got about 12 hours in, and "only" paid 50 for the game. I think I got my money's worth and I am not that far into the main story yet.

I'd say it's much more like Divinity 2.

How do people feel about the combat? All that combo-stringing looks cool at first but it seems like it would get tedious after a while.
