I am looking for 3TB drives with 1TB platters that reports 4k sectors correctly for a Solaris 11 build.

I am only aware of the Seagate ST3000DM001 drive having 1TB platters, Also, not sure about the correct 4k reporting which is importante for ZFS.

Is anyone using the ST3000DM001 with ZFS? Does Hitchi/WD have drives with 1TB platters out?

THX.

Isn't it 512 byte-alignment you want?

Hitachi 7K3000s are really nice...

I appreciate the advice on Hitachi as they do enjoy a greeat reputation, but I feel 512k is dead for the longterm as 3-4 TB are soon becoming standard once we get through the increased competition of the Thai flood of 2011.

I can wait another 6 months but want to invest in 6x3TB drives that will get me through the next ~4years. I feel Hitachi is neither king in low power nor advanced technology as they are going into the WD blank hole for now.

you are given advice and you smash it down... why exactly do you need to have 4k?
I have 8x3TB hitachi's in raid-z2 running just fine

If you want something now, Hitachi is the best.

Right now I have 6x Hitachi 2TB and 6x Hitachi 3TB each in raidZ2 and they are great drives.

If you are asking about the best drive that will come out in 6 months, wait 6 months for an answer...

Yeah, my Hitachi 5k3000's use WAYY more power than my WD Green's.
...

That's because the WD Green's spend most of their time in a box being RMA'd

Viva "advanced technology"!

Native 4K sectors should allow better performance AND better ECC for those asking why.

I would like to see manufacturers supply native 4K firmware for ALL modern drives via download from their site. This would mean they don't have to run 2 SKUs in the name of compatibility.
