There's currently a sale going on at Newegg and some 750W PSUs are going for cheap. Some modular ones caught my eye and wanted some opinions, since I'm about due for one for one anyway (year 4 of 5 year warranty). Here's a few I had in mind:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139010 - CORSAIR Professional Series HX750 - $149 + shipping

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139030 - CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750M - $129 + shipping

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341041 - OCZ Fatal1ty 750W - $109 + shipping

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817116015 - NZXT HALE82-750-M - $109 + shipping

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341052 - OCZ ZT Series 750W - $109

The only one not on sale is the NZXT PSU. I would mention how these are all technically more efficient than my current PSU (PC P&C S75QB 750W) but after reading Paul's article I'm not really worried about power savings, just a quality PSU that I can hang on to for a few years without burning my house down. And, you know, be a modular unit so I can get rid of some cable clutter.

Thoughts? Opinions?

I wouldn't go with either OCZ PSUs due to OCZ's relatively poor customer service. With that said, the ZT series is probably the one of the highest quality PSUs out of that list. The ZT is better than the Fatal1ty 750W. So if you've had good luck with OCZ in the past, best bet would be that OCZ ZT Series.

The NZXT Hale82 line apaprently has temperature issues. So thats out IMO. The Corsair TX750M is a good PSU but really offers nothing to justify its costs over the OCZ ZT series other than Corsair's excellent customer support history. The Corsair HX750 is the better performing PSU out of the listed PSUs. Though I'm not sure how it ranks next to the OCZ ZT.

How do the Antec Earthwatts 750 and High Current Gamer 750 compare to the Corsairs? They are $100 at newegg at the moment.

Why 750W? Your sig rig probably doesn't pull more than 600W, at full load overclocked.

The Antec High Current Gamer 750 has better ripple control and slightly better load regulation than either of the Corsairs. Wouldn't bother with the Earthwatts considering that it's the same price as the Antec High Current Gamer.

That Earthwatts unit isn't modular. I'd love to get some clutter out of my case.

According to this calculator, around 631W full load, OC'd at current settings. I could get away with a 700W unit but I'd just like headroom. Oh, and with the current 15% off (and rebates!) I could potentially spend as much as or less to pick up a 750W modular unit right now.

Edit: Found the HX at Amazon for $127, might pick it up from there if I can't get Newegg to pricematch.

Calculators are useless, never trust them.

Your rig probably doesn't even pull 500 watts from your power supply overclocked.

If you wanted a good 750 watt power supply, you should have gotten the Seasonic X750 when it was on sale for $120.

I wasn't exactly in the market for one at that point in time, but eh, it happens. I think the HX750 will be nice and gives potential for another GPU if I decide to go Crossfire.

The HX750 for $117.5 after promo code and after rebate makes it a decent value at best. I don't really see any of those options as good values/good sales. The NZXT Hale is probably the best value, provided you get the rebate.

I have to agree none of those deals look that great.

I've had really good experience with corsair's quality and customer service, so that's my vote.

I back up the others that say stay away from OCZ. I have personal experience with those failing. You have been warned. :D

I would have called the Corsairs good until one died last week. I have had great luck with the high end Antecs (the cheap ones are crap) and have heard nothing but good things about the Silverstones though I have never owned one.

I'm still liking that HX750 and at 127 bucks, I'm willing to pick it up for that price. It's not amazing, but it's less than the 160 I picked up my PC P&C for a few years back.

By the way, I understand Enermax is a quality PSU manufacturer. I hear the NAXN82+ is an OEM model - any reason to pick that up over the HX750?

Unless the NAXN82+ is substantially cheaper than the HX750, not really worth getting the NAXN82+

Just to follow up on this - I picked up the HX750 from Amazon for $127 shipped. As you can clearly see, this will be nice to install.

I am going to be honest and go with the OCZ ZT series because these PSUs are top notch. In addition they are fully modular!!! In my opinion even though corsair has superb customer service and RMA system, for performance and price. Definitely go with the OCZ. If we all support corsair, other companies will not make it far in the computer industry.

I had a pair of OCZ Reapers DDR2 on my last build and they were a great kit, but that's the only OCZ product I've had - besides the fact that they failed memtest from the first shipment I got. Other than that, I have no experience with them or their customer support.

However, I have friends who have used OCZ products and they worked well... for a period of time, before crapping out. The Vertex 2 and GameXStream products in particular are off the top of my head. When I see quality control issues like that, it makes me think twice about using a particular manufacturer.

Maybe he can afford it?

Why do you want people to cut power so close to the edge? Would you really buy a 600W PSU for a system that drew 550W max from the wall? Yeah, I guess if you're poor and penny pinching, but I remember when I had to do that, and I hated it.

I now have a 1000w seasonic, and I don't even pull more than 500w from the wall. And I'm happy i made this purchase. Why? Because I have the money to spend. And the leeway to upgrade in the future.

Top notch? Yeah right.

This has been argued and explained so many times...
