Best Buy Explains Its Leaked Apple HDTV Survey

You claim you can find Samsung and LG models -- 42" at $400 -- and link a bunch of bottom tier pieces of crap.

Yea, you sure showed me.

Yeah, Samsung, LG, Sharp, those are bottom-tier crap, definitely . Plus, see my last post.

Oh, and one more thing, son: I am going to be having a 70" Sharp Aquos LED-LCD (full-array backlighting) shipped to me soon if I bite on it, for $1800. That dwarfs a silly little "42" apple tv" for 1500, in fact the comparison is LAUGHABLE how bad a ripoff a $1500 42" tv is, branding or not:

42inch16x9vs70inch16x9.png

That's, for a high-quality set, 66.67% larger diagonal and 177.78% larger area than a hypothetical 1500 dollar "apple tv" that is 42 inches.

this guy seems mad. I think half the posts in this thread are his. U mad bro?

That is absolutely wonderful. I mean seriously: I am sitting here an absolute awe.

Just wow!

It's not a quality $400 42" set, though.

I like your style though: can't provide proof, resort to e-peen tactics.

I linked you plenty of high-quality 42" sets for $300-500. Where's your super-duper quality 42" apple TV now? Oh, and it would be four times the price... THAT is a value ?

You specifically claimed you can have Samsung or LG sets for $400. You then linked a bunch of bottom tier TV's.

You've yet to come through on your original statement.

And, quite frankly, I don't understand the negativity towards the Apple TV. I do not recall myself ever claiming the TV would be superior or in any way a better deal than anything on the market.

It would appear as though you're a bit.. how do you say.. mad?

"Bro"

I linked you a Samsung set. I also linked you a Sharp set. Both are top-tier brands.

Your sharp Aquos sucks. I've seen it in person, calibrated, and it looks worse than the smaller Panasonic plasmas and Samsung LED's.

And before you get all cute on me, I watch a JVC RS-55. Son.

A 1080p sharp set, yes, it looks grotesque . Anyway, I'm done here, you've been proven wrong multiple times with hard real-world proof and actual facts. Bye now.

I see no facts. You cannot backup your claim.

You are wrong. It is unfortunate, but true.

And please stop sending me angry PM's. That is just in bad taste.

We're adults here, let us act like it.

Now it's just plain obvious that you're bs'ing, not as though it wasn't before. Why would a mid-tier 42" Apple TV get a pass by you at $1500, yet a $450 42" set from a top-tier brand is somehow overpriced, exactly? I've shown you from both a value standpoint (equal size/quality) *and* a "roughly equivalent price" standpoint (70" high-quality sharp aquos) that a 42" apple tv @ 1500 dollars is a rip. What have you shown other than "bro" and "umad"?

You can't even quote the right person....

BTW, a quality Samsung 46 in TV costs more than $1500. Same ballpark as the Apple:

You don't seem to understand that brand isn't everything. Samsung makes some greaet TV's and some shit TV's. Same goes with every manufacturer.

That actually was directed at you. The jumble-of-punctuation guy is the one who was obsessing over brand though ;), not me.

..but you haven't shown us anything. You haven't linked anything that you've claimed.

Not to mention you simply do not know what features the Apple TV has. This is all speculation/rumor. You're outright claiming a product that doesn't even exist in the market yet is beaten by these mystical $400 42" top-model sets, and these 70" $1800 sets (that you also didn't link).

You think I'm bsing? My subwoofer costs more than your entire home theater setup.

I thought we already went over this part... cost != quality, and something that is 4% better but costs 500% more is not a good deal unless you have more money than brains, which is what Apple feeds on.

Trust me, my Seaton Submersive HP is easily 500% better than what you have. Probably more in the 1000% range.

GoldenTiger, my point is, some of us are discerning about quality and willing to pay for it. Some of us aren't. Clearly, you're in the latter category. There's nothing wrong with it, but don't pretend that lower quality items aren't any worse than truly elite products.

Problem with that argument is, Apple is not elite, it's a branding company. Don't get me wrong, if I had the cash for your kind of setup, I'd probably be all over it, but... there's a difference between paying for a brand and paying for quality.

Not everything Apple makes is elite. But a lot of it is. Look, I own both Mac and PC. They are each better for some things. But Apple makes very high quality hardware lately. There's really no way to dispute it. Hell, the screen on my Air even came pre-calibrated to proper white point from the factory.

Fair enough, and yeah, most of their stuff is high quality.

It still blows my mind that they are going for building an actual TV rather than turning the Apple TV into a better product... I guess Apple decided that the only way to convince the consumer to get rid of their shitty cable/satellite boxes/DVRs was to force it on them through the TV?

And if the iTV doesn't include a 4 tuner DVR I'm going to facepalm, hard.

Can it play Blu-Ray movies?

No. Can an Apple TV 1 or 2? No. Does the Xbox360 offer more in the way of streaming content than a PS3? Absolutely. Cheapest PS3 is $300. Cheapest 360 is $200. For less than $100 difference I can buy a nice BD player.

See what I did there? ;)

an AppleTV set-top box is $100
a 42" TV is $400

total $500

That's a $1000 markup. Yikes!
Yep and there is no difference between a Chevy Cobalt and a Mercedes C250

And when was the last time Apple sold any lcds larger than 25 for $500?

_Starting_ price for Apple 27s are $999

Panasonic's High quality 37 LCD TV is $1000

IF apple _was_ to sell something in the 42 inch range, I would bet you'd be looking at $2500-3000. $1500 would be huge bargain

Yeah, Samsung, LG, Sharp, those are bottom-tier crap, definitely . Plus, see my last post.
The point isn't that Samsung, Lg and sharp are bottom tier, the point is all these
manufacturers make low cost models and high cost models.

Apple hasn't sold low cost stuff in over ten years. _Everything_ they sell is top of the line

you continue to confuse Apple with true branding companies like Dell or HP or Best Buy's Insignia or Dynex.Apple makes the best products you can buy (No, I'm not an apple fanboy, I don't own a single apple product).
I've read your 1st to last post. You are a troll. you are just spewing crap. Every time you post you confirm to everyone reading the thread that you are a moron

Apple's displays are all just LG panels wrapped in some shiny white plastic ;). They are a branding company as in they are mostly based on marketing rather than far superior products to justify their inflated pricing. As to the second part of your post, you're not worthy of a response.

Apple uses aluminum housings for its displays, not plastic. I don't believe you're even vaguely familiar with the products you're rallying against.

Slip of tongue, and aesthetics isn't anything to do with components and functionality, as I was saying. Nice straw man though.
