Apple Invents Solution To Foxconn Suicide Epidemic

They are morally obligated if they morally obligate themselves as Apple has done.

Please link to these public statements issued by Apple, Inc. calling for companies to better treat both their own employees as well as their contractor's employees. A press release from apple.com please, not a Gizmodo/Engadet article quoting a mid-level manager out of context.

Please quantify those facts. 99% of us are all ears.

This.

To the people that find this tasteless:

Think about it... it is making fun of the apathy that the corporate world has... not the suicides themselves.

People aren't upset about the ad. They're upset that Apple gets the lion's share of the blame for these suicides when they are a very small piece of the Foxconn pie.

Sure, here is a start. Most of their comments have also been made at key Apple events. Also most research now will just net you all the crap about the most current violations and will be hard to see their past, but here is a start for you:

Back in 2006:

Remember, they were going to fix all these problems....woops...

And while wikipedia is not the end all and be all of facts, they do have a good history of Apple's "Social Responsibility" history in dealing with this particular issue with lots of footenoes to sources:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Apple_Inc.#Labor_practices

Apple admitted themselves that the problems had gotten worse, not better. They didn't really do anything between 2006 and 2010. They audited, but they didn't force their suppliers to do much. They said they would terminate contracts, but they continuously contracted with Foxconn who was one of the biggest offenders.

I think everyone gets that, it's just that no matter what death was involved and I guess I'm a pussy, making fun of something where people died, no matter the circumstances, just not me.

But hell we're all gonna die and someone somewhere might get a laugh about out if and its not like when you're dead you're gonna care anyway.

Right. And the real joke is that, instead of trying to improve conditions, they added nets. I mean, how seriously unsympathetic is that?

Apple is also the biggest and richest company in the world. If they can't force Foxconn to change matters, who can? I think it's totally justified to petition primarily Apple in this case.

The ad itself is indeed not offensive as it shows exactly how apathetic and wrong the business world treats those human beings at the Foxconn factories. It's Apple and other Foxconn contractors who are making light of those suicides.

No different than working conditions in US manufacturing plants not all that long ago.

people are retarded.. ALMOST EVERYTHING IS MADE WITH SOMETHIGN FROM FOXCONN.. why must people poke at apple!

Apple is Foxconn's largest customer.

Apple is the most profitable computer company out there.

Apple has more money than anyone else.

Apple claimed to have researched the factories and found no issues... until the media reported their own findings.

Apple's markup doesn't necessitate that they use Chinese slave labor. But they do anyway.

Apple is in the position to effect change. If they can't, then they're only failing to do so because they don't want to. This is why Apple is getting the spotlight put on them.

Some of this isn't entirely true. Apple was informed there were issues, they researched them in 2006 and found many problems. They then sent auditors to bring standards up. This is when they were then "claiming" they were making things better. Only the problem is, things got worse, not better.

Also don't forget that Apple places even more restrictions on the workers with their added "secrecy and security" demands. This puts even more pressure, stress, and confinement on the workers.
