You can try mounting the remote server's drive via NFS. For solaris/Unix based systems you can enter
mount -F nfs (IP ADDRESS):/share2 /Any_folder in terminal.
This will mount the file system /share2 located on the host (IP ADDRESS) to the mount point /Any_folder
I find that NFS transfers are faster then smb transfers in solaris type systems. You can also tune the NFS parameters if you want to really get crazy.
