I went looking for small LCD monitors and was surprised that it is hard to find anything under 17" unless integrated into a laptop, mobile device, etc. The ones I did find were expensive (intended for special applications), or just low quality.

Why would someone want a small LCD monitor when everyone else wants the biggest LCD they can afford? It's for a bank of surveillance camera feeds that need to be displayed along an existing 13" high shelf. But I can't spend a fortune on it.

Even back in the CRT days, the majority of users were using monitors over 17". I haven't had a screen under 17" in probably 10 years or more. For PC use, everyone wants larger panels. I'm sure you are using a monitor larger than 17" with your current setup.

"Why would someone want a small LCD monitor when everyone else wants the biggest LCD they can afford?" <<< that comment, doesn't make any sense.

In any case, computer monitors may not be the best way to go for a video surveilance setup. And if you need screens that small, you will likely need to special order them. I'm sure there is specialized hardware for those types of installations.

For camera setups like that you'll be fine with any 15" or smaller older gen LCD's. You'll find that even "professional" surveillance equipment can use very low res monitors. Keep in mind that people basically throw these things out (1024x768, VGA, older TFT tech), so look at recycling centers, the thrift stores, business liquidations, etc. You'll find a ton of old Dell displays fitting this description.

But if you can't use semi-garbage grade equipment or need different inputs, look for 15.6" panels. They're all 16:9, so the aspect ratio makes them really no taller than an older 15" or 13" equivalent display (assuming you have shelf space horizontally).
