7970 Purchasing Thread

Cause someone cancelled or got denied is why. It will be gone out of stock in a matter of minutes
 
Newegg business shows good stock on the others except for PowerCooler, show only 10 left
 
I'm sure XFX is great and all, but I worry they may end up like my fav nvidia manf BFG.

Although the stock cooler is generally louder, I like the design of kicking all of the hot air out the back of the PC. On some of those multi-fan setups like the black edition, they kick the heat out all directions inside the case. Then again, if eyefinity crossfire stuttering doesn't ruin everything like it usually does, I will be putting on water blocks.

I prefer ones that vent out the rear some, but I don't care about some extra heat escaping into the case since I have good case cooling :p, as I'm sure you do too. My CPU is not pushed to the brink so a little extra heat won't hurt anything.

it has the standard cooler. the heatpipes w/dual fan would have been nice but probably more expensive - and not available yet.

yep this is true. i don't have any problem keeping my case cool so i want to get that heat away from the gpu as fast as possible.
 
Case in point, my 6990's (which have a powerful, loud, rear exiting only fan) keep my 1.25v 1000Mhz 6990's under 72C full load at 100% fan. That is a pretty good air setup.

We're almost to mid-Jan... :D, I may wait a week to see if those show up if they don't tonight/tomorrow.

My toes appreciate the extra heat on them in the winter from reference blower fans

EDIT: I do think the gigabyte one I linked has a chance to come out on the 9th (tomorrow) because SKYMTL (hardware canucks' writer) had posted that slide deck then retracted it quickly saying it was under NDA until then.

Well, there have been rumors that stock wouldn't be as short as originally suspected. Add to that, they've only been up a short while and before the official release, so might not be as many people sitting trying to snatch them up yet.

Newegg is smart. They won't ship till the official date so they are doing the right thing striking now. Amazon should follow suit.
 
Wow!! I watch the NFL playoff Denver game and then I miss all the hubub at Newegg and see the 7970s are out! Ordered two Sapphires but missed the XFX Black Editions. Oh well Sapphires should be good and I can go to bed early.
