Leading mainboard manufacturer MSI announces today the official release of the Big Bang-XPower II, a flagship mainboard based on the Intel® X79 Express chipset! Featuring the latest PCI Express Gen 3 standard and 4-way NVIDIA SLI / AMD CrossFire technology with 8 slots of Quad-Channel memory to achieve extreme performance, the Big Bang-XPower II mainboard also adapts a 22-phase PWM design with Hybrid Digital Power, and incorporates dual 8-pin CPU and single 6-pin VGA power connectors to reach Xtreme Power Design.

With the introduction of MIL-STD-810G certified Military Class III components, the Big Bang-XPower II comes equipped with extreme materials such as the Hi-c CAPs for CPU power supply. In terms of extreme overclocking, the Big Bang-XPower II provides PCI-E CeaseFire for easily turning on/off graphics card slots and maximizing overclocking performance. Several convenient technologies are also provided including V-Check Points, Direct OC and Easy Button 3. With extreme performances in 4 Xtremes, the Big Bang-XPower II is the optimal weapon for enthusiastic overclockers to break world records!

Guns and ammo theme aside, I just nerd-cremed my pants. I really want a mobo like this one. Hopefully it performs as well as it looks.

DIP switches have returned? I was hoping those dreaded things would be gone forever by now.

The guns and ammo themes are silly, and to be honest I'm not concerned with supporting 128GB of ram so much as I am better onboard storage support, which their press release completely fails to mention.

They never really left, I've seen them on tons of newer motherboards and gpus. (One per card/board of course)

I've never really liked MSI as far as overclocking boards go. I've always felt like they were holding my hardware back.

I'll hold back my excitement until Kyle takes a run at this one. SB-E has been meh so far. It looks like a good board but We won't really know until someone cooks up a decent cooling solution.

So far I've been happy with my MSI Big Bang Xpower, overclocked my 920 to 4.2 ghz without trouble.

Yeah, they've been around here and there but of all of the things they chose to show an image of in their press release, it's DIP switches as if they're some big deal.

"Look, we have DIP switches!"

So?

Gigabyte and MSI need to stop their fascination with guns and shell casings.

I don't care if this is the best X79 board in the world, I wouldn't buy it for the dopey ammo thing.

Solid caps and digital power management.... yum! I always like seeing these on motherboards.

I concur. I am very interested to see how this board compares with the other X79 boards.

Besides the "bullets" I think the board looks fantastic. It could easily be colour matched to suit a variety of other components and themes quite well.
I've been thinking about upgrading to X79 once Ivy Bridge*(sic) hits town just for having a new gen CPU and video(7970 or Kepler).
Though I'm not a fan of any MSI products because of stability issues in the past I'd love to put this on a short list.

DIP switches, mobo fans? What's next? "Look, our Ivy Bridge-E boards have ISA slots and 2 IDE connectors"? ;P

I'd rather have DIP switches over jumpers. Can't lose a DIP switch. =P

I like to see a top of the line comparison Big Bang-XPower II, rampage 4 extreem and what ever gigabytes top liner is, ud7 maybe.

The ,debatable, finest motherboard on earth until the SR3, the Rampage IV has DIP switches.

Retarded marketing spew is retarded.

Some vanilla Asus based will probably spank it, would be my guess. Assuming you even get it to post after the inevitable dozen bios updates, and crappy driver downloads. Oh and the pile of XTREMe OC TOOLS.

I know my friend had one and I couldn't afford it at the time :(

I have two , the expert and the one below that, if your interested. The opteron 165 does 3ghz on the expert.:D, If not they go into my collectors bin or on my wall with some early 90s boards.

I've been rocking an XPower Big Bang X58 version for over a year now, pushing my 930 to 4.4GHz 24/7 on water. Awesome motherboard. The SB-E chips so far don't excite me, but if you are going to upgrade, I'd give this board a look. I've used many MSI motherboards and they've always served me well.

Oh you know you like the "I'm so l33t but I'm really not" mobos. :D

first of all, I am totally 1337, I pee rainbows and own unicorns.

second of all, I have some crazy break dancing skills.

Which, makes me and my mobo way cooler than most.

I wanna pee some freakin rainbows and own unicorns too!!!!!! (think I'm gonna sig that:p )

And what's with all of the MSI hate?

My 790FX-GD70, even though they're prone to failure with the x6's, has been a ROCK SOLID board. Way better than most Asus boards I have. Granted not nearly as cool or as awesome as my DFI LP SLI-D's, but still a damn solid board.
One of the most extensive BIOS's I've seen. Can adjust damn near anything on it.

And their video cards, man, I think they're great. OC really well, have good stock cooling and a warranty that goes by serial #. That's awesome!

Yet you will play any game with a gun in it?

So kind of whats the real benefit of a 22 stage over say a 8 stage power setup? I dont mean 14 stages either. However, ir real world benefits thats probably it.

When do we get a real hardcore stripped down, no legacy stuff motherboard with just 4 USB3.0 ports on the back and thats it.

No audio, ethernet, firewire, eSATA, HDMI, SPDIF, IDE etc. so the board layout can be simplified and beefed up without all the unnecessary extra traces and runs and we can install just the right kit we need on it. Would be a good solid overclocker and probably give better audio with a top end card.

anyone know if all the new boards are on 64 bit bios...like can they take more than 2 TB as the boot drive.

Interesting idea. I doubt motherboards will lose ethernet, and probably rightfully so. I could see a PS2 port having some value for a keyboard in certain situations (extreme OC'ing, as this board is geared for), but as far as I'm concerned, that can go. Firewire can definitely go too. Audio, maaayyybe.... :)

Even still, I could TOTALLY see myself buying a stripped no-nonsense board for sure. And the ammo-heatsink is so lame, I think I almost would prefer crayons lol

I could buy a board without PS/2 ports, Firewire, or audio, but definitely keep the onboard LAN. And use Intel chips, not Realtek
