I replaced mobo in one old computer Asus A7V600 socket A and now I can't install Win7 due to missing sata drivers, I tried to boot from USB stick but there is no such an option in bios to activate, although connected drive is displayed in POST screen.

Any suggestions? Thanks

Boot from the CD and when it ask which HD you want to install it on, there is a section that lets you install drivers, I'm sure it'll be able to see a flash drive. Not much you can do if your device can not boot from a USB device. However Win7 seems to be rather good with hardware detection this time around and shouldn't have a problem seeing the sata drive. Perhaps you can change the SATA mode back to IDE or ATA6 mode and it will detect the drive, unless it is one of those new fangled multi-terabyte monstrosities.

be aware that some older boards may or may not install win 7. and even if it does that doesnt mean it will be stable. i guess it doesnt hurt to try though.

Some boards won't be stable w/ Win 7? I've put Win7 basic on a number of antiquated machines/laptops to little ill effect save for some difficulty finding drivers.

Have you experienced this yourself?

The main problem is chipset drivers for IDE/SATA, sometimes a chipset required a special driver, normally on a floppy that had to be loaded before Windows installed. This wasn't to difficult back for XP, because computers still had floppy drives. But today even if you have a usb floppy drive or someway to install the driver, you simply can't find the driver anymore, which prevents an install. This has happened to me using WinXP and perhaps once with Windows 7, but normally you would suggest a new computer before attempting to install Windows 7 onto a PC designed for Win 95. and I do still have my floppy drive with the driver disc for my old mobo and sata 1st gen expansion card as well as joystick drivers and a little gem of a PS1/2 dualshock to USB adapter I have.
