Best Way to Migrate over to SSD?

I want to move all my files and programs from my HD to my new SSD. I can't reinstall Windows 7 because I have a lot of applications installed.

What's the best way to migrate my entire OS + applications + whatever files I have over to my new SSD?

Is there any good software that you guys recommend that will do this?

Norton Ghost or Acronis Trueimage will do exactly that. If you have a WD or Seagate drive you can get a free copy of Acronis on their websites.

Do I have to worry about any registry errors or driver errors if I just clone the data over via Ghost or Acronis?

Not sure about norton, but I know acronis has a full data backup thing, I believe winodws 7 also has a built in feature as well. I believe acronis has a full bit by bit way of doing it, I would read up on it first real good though, I am not sure if acronis does it through command prompt, but am pretty sure norton does as it will not operate in a windows environment(could be wrong though)

I would take the longer approach, set the new OS on the SSD this way here you can get everything in place such as AHCI, defrag off and such. most of the stuff like favorites and such can be backed up easily enough. I did this myself, took maybe 24 hours to get it all sorted out and backed the way I liked, 500gb of data, games, apps, and such, yes it sucked :p

I would do it manually but I have applications that I no longer have the serial numbers to.

I actually just did exactly that with my computer. I moved from Raid 0 WD Blacks to a single Crucial M4 128.

I first changed the registry setting to enable AHCI,
ran archonis to backup to my server, be sure to check "sector by sector backup"
-make sure to include both the C drive and the 100mb system partition in the backup.
booted into Intel Controller, broke the Raid 0 Array
reset into bios, changed intel controller from Raid to AHCI
Set Crucial M4 to boot drive
booted from archonis recovery media
recovered backup from server and checked recover MBR
booted perfectly into windows from the SSD like nothing changed, just had to let Win 7 automatically install the AHCI drivers and reboot again.

Couldnt be happier, as i really didnt want to go through the pain of re-installing everything, and re-seting my fan profiles in speedfan, oc profiles for vid card, eyefinity settings etc...

and fast as i could ask for! love this M4!
