I have a 1090T coming next week (just nabbed it on Newegg for $115 shipped :)
I have a ThermalTake TMG IA1 but not sure how quiet and efficient it will be with a 125W CPU (currently using Athlon Ii x 440 oced 3.5GHz @ 42C full load unlocked four cores)

any recommendations ? I need max quiet without going to a full blown water system. Max operating temp for the 1090T is rated 55-70C (why such a wide margin?)

thanks

Well, I can say from personal experience the Coolermaster V8 does pretty well for an "air" cooler. I've used it on both the Phenom II and FX chips.

Phenom II X4 970 @3.9Ghz Max temp: ~44*C
FX-8150 @4.4Ghz Max temp. ~47*C

I highly recommend it for the price of 50 bucks. I fully intend on switching to a closed loop H2O system in the near future. I'll probably get the Antec Kuhler 920, from what i've heard it does very well.

I checked it out ... looks very good

H50 does a good job, when i used a Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer 120mm I had no issues with that.

I forgot to mention that with the best thing about the H50 is that it is silent.

How is the H50 silent? It has a 120mm cooling fan Just like most aftermarket CPU coolers.

I'm running a Hyper 212+ and it keeps mine running in the low 30's under load. Its hard to say how quiet it is because I've got 5 case fans running too but I wouldn't consider it loud by any means.

Silent as in you don't hear it. Under heavy load, the pump makes a very, very slight noise. I found that out by sticking my ear an inch away from the pump with the side off.

I feel that the best options are....

1. Corsair H80 and H100 - The H100 will provide best-in-class cooling, superior to just about everything aside from a self-built liquid kit, especially if you consider a fan upgrade (Scythe Gentle Typhoon or Feser Triebwerk are the best I know of; hopefully I'm not out of date). Just be wary to ensure you don't have one with a serial number that gives problems (look to other threads). MUCH easier to install than bulky air-coolers.
2 Scythe MUGEN3 - Scythe MUGEN line (now on MUGEN3) are the best budget coolers I've found. For under $40 (sometimes as low as 26!) you'll get an air cooler with included fan that's within a degree or three of the $80-100+ Thermalright and other highest-end air coolers (which often, don't include a fan or one you want to use). Scythe is also known for an excellent mirror finish on the contact point

EIther one of those, depending on your budget will work.

as far as air coolers go the noctua d14 is good.

cooler master hyper 212 is good,

some of the zalman heatsinks are pretty good to price/performance wise.

I have used the zalman coolers with success before. with several builds. I have a black edition thermalright.

I have a 1100T clocked @ 4.2 GHZ and use a Corsair H60. It keeps my temps relatively good with the full load temps topping at about 53-54C so I'd recommend that if you plan on overclocking.

I did a ton of research, really it depends on your budget. I'd say the Cooler Master Hyper 212+ is the best bang for the buck, newegg has them for $20. I bought the slightly newer 212 EVO, pretty much identical performance and I can run my 1090T at 4ghz(I run day to day at [email protected] because 4ghz required 1.5v). It keeps up with $40+ air coolers.

If I had more money I would have loved a H80 or H100 closed loop water cooling system. They seem amazing.

+ 1 on the CM Hyper 212+. probably one of the best bang for buck coolers out there.
also the Macho is an excellent choice. in the top 5 air coolers? tho double the price of the 212+, tho at 40-50 bucks, still cheap.

I have a 1055T that is currently clocked at 3.65gh, and I am using a Xigmatek Gai SD1283 cooler. I ran prime95 on it for 24 hrs and it runs right about 55 celsius.
After about 2-3 hrs it runs at 49 celsius. I am running the stock fan that was included, however, the cooler does include rubber mounts for a second 120mm fan if you need more cooling. For $29.99 at Newegg, you really can't go wrong.

I'm using the same Arctic Cooling freezer64 that I did on my 3800x2, and quite frankly it works even better on the 1090T than it did on that processor. Pretty much never hear it spin up unless I'm loading all 6 cores with a stress test for a minute, and never gets loud even if it runs continuously. I run the computer at stock clocks and voltages, if you OC or are looking to get the quietest computer possible a larger cooler would be better.
