Steam Winter Sale 2011

Decided to give Hard Reset, which I picked up during the Daily Deal a few days ago, a spin. Not sure what to make of it yet.

- It feels just like Unreal (the singleplayer chapters of the Unreal franchise) in terms of gameplay.
- As a shooter, it just feels completely right -- the movement, the field of view -- it feels totally natural unlike some games where you immediately stop playing to try to find the FOV console command, or the option to turn off view bob or change mouse sensitivity.
- Good production values for an indie game
- Wtf happened in the intro cut screen...I have no idea what the hell is going on. Something about machines running amuck. Totally, utter confusion about the story.

I went back to play Hard Reset for the achievement and forgotten how fun it was, it's a fairly unique game, simple and fun, it satisfies that inner male need to just blast the ever loving shit out of everything around you and wade through the debris of your victory.

Started a 2nd play through which allows me to try some of the other weapons this time around, different unlock paths etc. Oh and don't try and follow the story it's just bonkers.

have had a stomach virus for the past few days and got on to try to snag up killing floor finally for my son and myself. tryign to checkout now and steam seesm to be having all sorts of problems. Tryign for the past hour and cant checkout!

I'm still half tempted to get Driver: San Francisco for $33, but I'm still not sure if I'll ever get around to it. Ditto with Hard Reset since I'm still going through Borderlands and Deus Ex.
I'm still miffed that Ubisoft has discounted everything but AC: Revelations. That's what I really wanted.

Hard reset is an awesome game but I agree about the confusion about the story. I think somebody hacked some global network that controls most of the things including the machines and turned them against the humans. Sounds like Skynet without the nuclear war lol.

Same here - cannot get to checkout on Steam. Has to be a server problem of some kind.

Yeah, we're working on it ... actually, should already be fixed.

Well, I could've saved a few more dollars on Sonic Generations. Oh well.

Edit: thinking of picking up Bulletstorm for $5. Everything I've read says that it was pretty fun, but short, right?

Yeah Im gonna pick it up. Seems to be the definition of $5 game.

Or I would if the steam store wasnt getting destroyed.

Sonic Generations is the first time so far in this sale where I was like "Yes that is perfect I must grab it at that price". So far nothing else has been hugely wow worthy price-wise and more "oh yeah I wanted that game I should pick it up". I almost bought Generations on Amazon last week when it was $15. I'm glad I waited.

Might pick up Bulletstorm, I heard the single player is short, like 10 hours or so, but still pretty fun. I'm wondering about Bastion, which looks interesting, and Anomaly, where I suppose I can't really go wrong for 2.50.

You now own Bulletstorm, Red Faction: Armageddon, Bastion, Bastion Soundtrack DLC,
Prototype, Hard Reset.

Bastion's pretty cool so far. I've only played the beginning.

Should've gotten the version with the soundtrack...

The sale has been pretty pathetic so far IMO.

I don't know about that. Sure, the AAA titles are not on sale, but pretty much everything else is. And with some luck with the great gift pile contest, you can get free games or a significant discount on the non-sale games.

The main thing I don't like though are the coupons which are worse than the holiday sale, but can't be used during them. They should have either allowed them to be used during the holiday sale, or matched the holiday sale prices imho.

They might turn out to be worthwhile if you get lucky and something you want is on a normal daily deal, and the deal falls within the coupon valid period.

A few big-name games have been on sale but the prices are so price-raped for my region that the sale price is still often equal-to-or-twice/three-times (Rage was $45 USD) the normal Steam price US customers are entitled to.

Oh my... Steam claimed $351.29 this holiday season. :(

I was afraid to add it all up, this is from the BF/CM deals until now; a month of Steam wallet murder.
$10.08 is a total damage so far :D

Not having the time to play games has its benefits, plus my backlog is somewhat big already.

wow, just finished a 5 hour session in Divinity 2 DKS..Pretty cool so far.

Picked up Bastion and Anomaly Warzone. Both are fun, quick enough to get the Anomaly christmas achievement.

Bastion is a cool game, enjoying the music and narration as well as the gameplay.

Is Serious Sam 3 BFE worth $20? It's getting bastardised in reviews.

Probably because the critics didnt get payed to review it higher. I think its a great co-op game that doesn't have any modern day gameplay mechanics. No health regen, cover system or the like. Good ol fashion killing waves of enemies. If you played any of the past Serious Sam games you should like it.

My complaints are the lack in varied environments(game pretty much takes place in Eygpt) and the fact that there isnt enough enemies thrown at you. :D Would love for a command to scale the amount of enemies that spawn.

I just bought it, $20 was good enough for me. I loved playing co-op with my brother back in the day. Time to do it all over again.

Just run and gun while shit blows the fuck up = win. :)

Getgames was selling this for $12, and later $10. They've run out of keys though, page says to check back tomorrow, not sure what the price will be.

Thanks :) will keep an eye out. I'd like to get the game at $20 or even $40 to show Croteam some love but I'm low on money :(.

Croteam knows how to bring out the kid in me. It's all smiles when blasting through hordes of bastard aliens and shitty catch phrases. It lives up to expectations, shooting the fuck out of things. :)

Only one game left for me to purchase. Trine 2. Everything else I own unless someone can name a game that I need to have and I do not own from 2011. :bleh:

Thanks for the feedback. My only worry from the reviews was that the game actually forces the player to take cover and doesn't have the open levels of the original games. Gamespot giving the game 6.0 when CODMW3 8.5 doesn't affect my confidence at all.

Ratings are relative, if you enjoy running around and blowing aliens to pieces. Then this game is for you, there are some other new features to this, and some decent graphics. They also are trying out this new feature called a story, but so far I have not really bothered with paying attention to that. :p

It's just as fun as I remembered the old ones, now I just need to play some co-op. :)

By the way, First and Second encounter are sold in a 2-pack. They're a blast to play as well, and only $3 for both.

Yeah I got the SS Gold Pack a few months back, played the heck out of TFE and TSE, so I know what to expect. I was just concerned by a few user reviews on metacritic that are saying it doesn't have the same quality as the previous games, but it could just be trolling/whining.
