I'm trying to get a wireless xb0x 360 controller working on my pc. I know I need a wireless transmitter. But my question is can I use an Xbox360 Big button Wireless transmitter for a regular 360 controller?

This is what I have

Um...

Isn't that an infrared type receiver? The 360 controller wireless receiver uses wireless radio frequency, not IR.

You need one of these. The receiver in the OP is for something else entirely afaik.

Nightrainsrt4 is right on the money. I have that exact device working with a couple of wireless 360 controllers on a PC. I can verify they work great.

FYI those are cheap Chinese knockoffs that break half the time. The only way to get an official wireless receiver is to buy it bundled with the windows xbox wireless controller

That's not true. Been using my cheap chinese knockoff wireless receiver that I paid 12 bucks for almost 6 months now. Works dandy.

www.dealextreme.com is an exceptionally slow site (takes about 18 days to deliver) but was able to send the X360 wireless receiver all the way from HK. Totally worth the wait and makes good use of my spare X360 controller.

Saved me rip off price of paying another 60$+ for a new Windows X360 controller.

What part of "about half the time" don't you understand. Did I say "they all break"? No. So if you want to waste 20 dollars with a good chance that it will break, fine by me.

No, they are not official. Microsoft DOES NOT make stand alone wireless receivers anymore. Furthermore, you can tell by the "Xbox 360" writing on the device. Microsoft NEVER puts "Xbox 360" on Xbox accessories. It is ALWAYS "Microsoft". So please, don't try to come in here uninformed and tell me something that I KNOW is not true. It is a cheap knockoff, it does have a high chance of breaking, and if you're fine with that, then go ahead and buy it, but DO NOT tell me that it is not a fake knockoff because it most certainly is.

I have no idea whether its official or not, but my official Xbox 360 wireless controller which was advertised as a wireless PC controller has "XBOX 360" written on it, its written on the top of it, just above the battery pack, inbetween the triggers. The dongle itself has "Microsoft" written on it.

I have yet to see where you are getting half the time from? :bleh:

I just grabbed a link that showed the product. I wasn't going to waste time scouring the internet for guaranteed legit one's at the best possible prices. That's on the OP. Simply showing what the one he wants looks like.

The listing says it is from Microsoft. If someone purchases it and it doesn't work, or isn't an official microsoft product as it states, it isn't so difficult to send it back.

As a side note, I've had plenty of Chinese knockoff crap that, while the feel is cheap plastic, work perfectly fine. I'd normally be against Chinese knockoffs, but when the manufacturer can't be bothered to sell the product on its own then I have no qualms.

I snagged one of those MS earpiece microphones for the PC (Lifechat ZX-6000) that is an exact clone of the older Xbox one. It came with a USB wireless hub that it syncs to. While I can't get the earpiece to work with the 360, I have gotten the wireless 360 controllers to sync with the hub perfectly as it's the same one that comes with that Xbox controller for PC package. Sometimes you can find that thing for cheap.

Really?

Hmm...
Anyway, from what I found the official ones are worse, due to a bad fuse. They overheat an die. And since there were discontinued anyway.....

I guess the consensus should be, just don't pay more than $20 for whatever version you get. They apparently all work, but if you pay more than that you are getting ripped off.
