Skyrim Modding Megathread

I had a 460 and tried many mods and ugrids, etc. Moving to a 570 did not make much of a difference but OCing my CPU from 3.7 to 4.4 made a huge difference. I gained 15 ish FPS easy.

My GTX 470 seems to be handling things fine: ugrids at 7 (+ other ini tweaks), FXAA, and lots of texture mods. Markarth gets a bit choppy though.

You're lucky. Ugrids is notorious for being arguably THE most unstable setting to mess around with regardless of one's hardware.

Hmm. The game is CPU heavy and I think increasing the uGrids makes it even worse. (also memory ofc)
After all the game has shit graphics.

would overclocking my 920 DO from 2.6 ghz to 3.6ghz make an improvement?

In theory, yes. That's a pretty awesome CPU.

Unfortunately, on their end software wise, don't be surprised if you see yet again more instability. If you do, it's not going to be the fault of your hardware.

BTW, is there a way to get my house carl to wear what I give him while he is doing stuff around the house? He switches over to the new gear (ebony) when I give it to him, then when I re-enter my house he is back to his steel armor.

Nope.

Though that reminds me of Bloodlines making my house wench dress up like a whore.

Absolutely. Unless you're using a slow GPU that's bottlenecking the system, a faster CPU is probably the single most effective way of increasing Skyrim performance.

OH YEAH?
What about this console command.

Equipitem <formid> - Forces the targetted actor (or your character, if using the "player.equipitem" command instead) to equip a specific item, if it is present in their inventory.

The "showinventory" command can be used with this to provide you with the FormID of equippable items in an actor's inventory.
You can use this command on yourself (player.equipitem <formid>) to equip weapons that are not normally available in the game. Ex. "player.equipitem 0010ec8a" allows you to equip a Dwarven Sphere Centurian's Crossbow. (Looks like a normal iron bow but glows red)

Ok, my game keeps crashing now after the new patch was released. I've deleted all 4GB and SKSE files.

I'll try running it as Admin. Tried everything. Only save that works is the first one right before character creation.

Yup. Pretty fucking pissed.

FXAA and ENB disabled. Crashes the second a save tries to load. Fuck steam and Bethesda right in the ass.

I assume this is related to Skyrim and the new patch which implemented LAA.

What mods were you using? Did you modify the ini before?

What mods are you using?

Texture mods. No ESPs. Disabled FXAA and ENB and deleted all files related to 4GB and SKSE. INI modifications were the usual kind, but people were saying the patch reverted them back to vanilla.

Have you tried moving or renaming your meshes and textures folder then try loading your game? Try deleting (make backups just to be safe) the files in My Games\Skyrim (besides saves)?

Did you reset all your ini changes back? Some ini changes are tied to save games, such as ugrid (I don't use this, so can't remember exact line). Meaning if the saves were made with a different value, you cannot load them unless the ini is set to a compatible value.

Textures can cause a lot of crashes. Delete your textures folder and launch the game again. Try it!

Renamed my texture and mesh folder and deleted both ini files and still crashes.

It gives me an error after clicking load that says "This save relies on content that is no longer present. Some objects may no longer be available."

EDIT

This is new. I get this weird ass money signs.

You can't just delete the ini's depending on the changes you had before. You actually have to set them to the same values (in some cases higher is fine) used before the update.

Did you try to verify integrity via steam?

Did you have UI mods before? This I think was a problem with the one of the previous patches.

I was using SkyUI, Better Sorting, and iHud. Tried verifying the cache several times.

I haven't touched the ini files since a few weeks ago when I initially edited them.

Am I seriously the only one having issues with the game after the new patch? Are any of you?

That rely error is commonly associated with esp files. I am guessing it is because of Better Sorting (why did you state you had no esp files?). Also, why did you deactivate everything? AFAIK, FXAA, ENB, and mods not reliant on SKSE are fully compatible with the new patch.

The $ sign is usually due to a change in Data/Interface/Translate_ENGLISH.txt.

I suspect it has to do with your UI mods.

Mine is working fine, but I had no mods (no texture, no UI, no esp, etc.). My only ini edit was land shadows and tree shadows. I've actually yet to have problems with any of the patches in terms of playability (not counting in game bugs).

Figures. I just renamed my "Interface" folder before that started to happen. I didn't think I had any ESP files enabled. In fact, I don't even see anything to do with Better Sorting on the Data Files list. There are four files and the only one checked is Skyrim.esm.

After deleting my ini files I reverted the "Skyrim" folder in My Documents back to an hour ago and renamed my Interface folder. Launched the game and it crashed. Then I verified cache and it said 1 file couldn't Verify and it re downloaded something. Launched the game, the $ signs were gone and my latest save loaded. Go fucking figure.

Enabled FXAA and ENB and save loads just fine. I really wish I knew what in the hell I did to fix it. Seems like all I did was rename, un-rename, delete, revert, verify, verify, verify.

just uninstalled the game because my saves wouldn't fucking load again

Yes. Tried changing them back to what they were with ini edit, no luck. Tried using the console in-game in an earlier save, game instantly crashed.

My saved games are fine with the same ini files I've been using since 1.0 (or whatever the game started with) and I'm running ugrids at 7.
