Batman: Arkham City for PC

The transition from dive bomb to gliding can be very tricky... I tend to pull up too hard. I think I burned 1.5 hours trying to complete Advanced AR 2 & 4. I was determined to get them completed.

The easiest trick for the water one is to just let go (at first) and don't pull up from a dive bomb. After a couple seconds, then start to pull up and you'll get it.

I'm sort of upset with the AR training in that I completed it (as well as several other difficult achievements) and Windows Live LOST my achievements. The Steam achievements are there, but not the Windows Live achievements.

(And due to the nature of the game, I can't just play a New Game+, I have to restart from scratch, and several of those achievements were near the very end of the game).

I had an easier time with every other AR mission except the 2 I mentioned which had no water to deal with. I think QB-Z needs some help though. :p

PC version is a huge improvement over the console versions...Rocksteady has put some effort into making the PC version a substantially better experience...while much of the artwork is shared with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 builds, pretty much every corner of the game is blessed with a graphical upgrade in one way of another. Some of the differences are quite subtle, adding an extra layer of mild polish to the look of the game, while others are far more drastic, showcasing just how much more detail and clarity is possible when pairing up Rocksteady's masterpiece with a decent spec PC....it's a game that cries out to be run at resolutions well in excess of the console standard 720p...

damn I'm tempted to put down Skyrim and start playing this right now!

I’m finally starting to get rolling in the game. It’s definitely nice. Combat’s a little more fleshed out, and it’s nice to be able to practice more and encounter random enemies instead of being limited to a certain number of enemies.
Performance is good, but probably not as good as I hoped. I think the massive open world has a lot to do with that. While AA had zones that required you to go through doors and pre-load the whole area, this one has a whole city to worry about. As a result, there’s some definite performance hiccups. A SSD might alleviate that, but my WD Black definitely isn’t.
PhysX could likely use a boost, too. There are some definite performance drops with PhysX set to “high” that are alleviated with the normal setting. The first game never had such issues, but it seems almost like it loads the scene normally…and the physx features are added a nanosecond later. That leads to little hitches between areas.
Nitpicks aside, it’s a great game, though. Some of those things might even be fixable with drivers, too.

Its worth it entirely. :) I'm playing it before I get around to long hours of Skyrim.

Put down? Forget that but this game was/is my perfect complement to switch off from Skyrim with. ;) It really is a fantastic game and worth every penny.

If you've got to have multiplatform titles, this game shows you how it can be done right where everyone wins on their respective platform. The PC version of this is something to be proud of.

I usually like to finish one game before starting another so that's the only reason why I don't want to start Arkham City while in the middle of Skyrim...technically there is no 'finish' to Skyrim but I would at least like to finish the main story and most of the Guild quests

I'm getting 40fps with graphics set moderatly at high with my build below. Much too stuttery for my taste. This is with the new patch as well. So I guess I have to kick some things down. Played it for about 20 minutes last night, still gotta get the hang of the controls, but i loved what I played

Is it just me or did other people also get bored out of their minds playing this one. I am trying to rescue Mr. Freeze from Penguin but to be honest have no motivation to do so. The enemies are extremely repetitive and it is like a fetch this or punch that kind of questing uptil now. I feel that Arkham Asylum was far more interlinked in terms of story than this one. It is not the open world nature of the game but rather the traversal across the city and repetitive enemies that is pissing me off.

Oh well, back to the other fine open world games such as Ass Creed Rev, Saints Row 3 and even L.A. Noire.

It's just you.

I got bored playing the first one, so...

Seemed like one of those games where if you're not someone who wants to collect shit and get 100% it wasn't worth all the backtracking. I guess you can just play through the game without all that but the game seemed geared toward collectibles.

I tried playing through the first one twice with a time span in between and still couldn't do it.

Beat the main story in about 7 hours, uninstalled. So yeah I guess I got "bored".
It was a fun break from Skyrim.

I beat the main story in 17 hours. I don't know if I'll play through it again. Mainly because I don't care much for the combo system. I basically whizzed through all the battles by tapping spacebar to evade. Catwoman is nice, though.

I have 36 hours in the game but I do not think I will worry about all the riddles and trophies like I did in the first game. some of them are just too tedious so its hard for me to give a crap.

I pretty much stopped the instant I made one of the riddler trophies unachieveable (outside a New Game+).

FYI, be very careful in the museum with the electricity.

I have 34 hours logged so far. I beat the main story and am just working on finishing up the riddler trophies and 2 or 3 side missions.

Hmmm, so some of the Riddler trophies can be made unreachable if you don't get them right away?
That kinda sucks. I've been getting the ones that I can seemingly get now, but I have no clue what to do with those ones that seem to want you in several places at once.

Yeah I dont have the patience to deal with the ones that are too complicated either. Those that have like 6 pressure pads in 6 different locations or the room that shuts you in and youve got 10 seconds to figure out how to get out before the poison gas kills you. No thanks, Id rather be out flying around the city or beating the crap out of thugs.

I dont know how many hours Ive got logged because sorry ass Origin doesnt have a game clock but Im halfway thru my 2nd playthru on New Game+ and still love it.

Just you and a handful of other strays.

Yeah, those are good games in their own right

and even L.A. Noire.

LOL!

You need to play more open world games if you really think this is an example of a "fine open world game." ;)

I never bothered to get all the Riddler trophies in part 1 and I can guarantee I won't even come close in this. Just more trouble than it's worth because of instances like what you're talking about. Life's too short.

I'm enjoying myself, but I'll agree that AA was better. The battles are easier this time around, even with the guys who are armed. Once you get used to the way the power combos work, you just attack the nearest guy with a 1-2-3 (not too fast) and then all of a sudden Batman is essentially able to warp between enemies, blasting them from a mile away and doing massive damage each time. I don't remember him being able to clear that much distance before, and the gun guys would swam you in a hurry if you tried. This time around they seem to stay separate.
The puzzles are fun, and probably a little better done...although the game is so much more combat heavy that you don't notice as much.
It's still a great game, but I'd dare say that the "more of the same" doesn't really work here like it did with some other franchises.

I didn't mean LANoire as an open world game but rather a good game.

Either way, just had a ton of fun playing Saints Row 3 coop with a friend. Cleared tons of missions together. Was addicting fun :D

Good fun for sure. :)

OK, the second playthrough in the big pit battle w/the penguin new recruits...how in the hell are you supposed to win that? I'm completely upgraded and I can't manage to even kill half of the guys. I've been using freeze bombs to reduce the number of them fighting, but ffs they're just too damn many and they all have weapons. I'm all for a challenge, but this is an early mission ffs.

lol, I struggled with that battle and a few others even on easy. I just cant pull of the necessary moves quick enough to consider playing at a harder difficulty.

Finally, I'm able to play the game with dx11 with AMD card. I uninstalled the 12.1 preview driver, installed 11.12 and it finally let the game run without any ctds. I ran into a stuttering issue and solved that by changing the smoothing range to 0-999 in the configuration file. The game is running pretty smooth so far. :)

Which ini file are you referring to?

for me its in the following location.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\batman2\BmGame\Config\Default Engine.ini"

"MinSmoothedFrameRate=24" ...change to 0
"MaxSmoothedFrameRate=62" ...change to 999

Yeah, that was it. I was posting from a tablet with my son in my arm and I thought this was mentioned in the thread already.

The damn game started with the CTDs again after the third launch. It looks like right before the level should load it crashes with the music still playing. What's with these freaking Origin downloads? I had the same thing happen to me with NFS The Run (a DX9 game!) and I had to reinstall the game to get it to work. I guess I'll try the same thing with Batman. I really hope Origin saved the Batman installer files because I don't want to download 16GB again to reinstall. I have the option checked to save the files but it didn't save the files for NFSTR and I had to redownload before installing again.

tried the benchmark today with the latest auto patch from steam and runs much better, getting average 45 fps with dx11 now.

I found the enemy A.I. to be pretty much the same between this game and the last one. The combat mechanics (with regard to Batman's mobility, power, etc.) are extremely similar as well. This FAQ gives a great explanation of how they work:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/982135-batman-arkham-city/faqs/63221

In my opinion, the purpose of the combat in AA/AC isn't to merely win each battle. Defeating your enemies is trivial after you have a good feel for the timing/moves. The real objective is to maximize your strike counter and combination bonuses. For example:

Never used that GFW Marketplace before...what a mess. You have to find the files in a web browser and then download them using that weird secondary app? Whatever happened to the store showing up in the marketplace program? Seems kind of needless.

yeah its such a pain to have to log into steam and windows live, than have to use a web browser for the market place. they need to make it more like the Xbox live on the 360.

Anyone have the Batman Beyond skin? I'd like to see some screenshots of that. Youtube only has vids of the console version. Skin pack is currently $2.49.
