Skyrim Modding Megathread

Some weird stuff going on there. It says Archmage Robes, but that's the Nightingale Armor.

It is a mod that allows me to craft various armors that are otherwise not suitable for mages. I like how the Nightingale looks compared to the regular archmage robes.

Ahh, ok.

So where does one get this pre-release version of SkyUI?

Timescale 5 is the safest, lowest value to use and shouldn't bug anything.

Don't go any lower tahn 5 and it should be fine. 5 is awesome. It's the way the game should have been set all along. :)

I'm not sure if changing the timescale is the cause, but since doing this, i get a lot of NPCs which repeat themselves a lot if i loiter in their general area.

Strange. Haven't seen that quirk myself as of yet.

I've noticed it occasionally. I'm not sure if it's more than normal, but sometimes I yell at the NPC irl.

I have a ton of mods installed, so it's quite possibly one of their ill effects. I posted here to confirm if it was the timescale change or not, and apparently it isn't.

I"ll do more testing with setting the timescale back and forth.

I talk to this game quite a lot... heh

I'm going to say pretty confidently to you it isn't the time scale. I've been using that time scale to 5 adjustment for a couple of weeks and lots of hour gaming hours and no issues.

Been conservative on the mods, though.

the one linked above is a pre-release version, which you may only use if you don't complain about it, apparently... haven't tried it yet, but it's got to be better than QD

For now, SkyUI only affects the inventory UI. I use it in conjunction with QD since then I still get a decent UI (QD) when dealing with containers and merchants rather than having to deal with the vanilla UI.

Is it safer to use keyboard and mouse now? I used my ps3 controller from the day I got the game but I really want to use the keyboard/mouse combo. Any control tweaks for ini files that make sensitivity etc. better?

I just installed SkyUI and booted up Skyrim for the first time since release day. Seemed much more user friendly with the recent updates and the mod.

SkyUI doesn't work for stores, or looting (chests, barrels, etc) ???
So it's 50% useless...

They are releasing segments at a time. I rather have part of it now than have to wait until they finish revamping all menus; however, you can feel free to wait for them to release a complete package.

Of course I will wait.
It seems silly to constantly bounce back-and-forth between two UI designs.

SkyUI and QD are fairly similar as they use a traditional layout. What is silly to me is playing with the stock UI as that thing is horrible.

Yeah, I am debating that. Seems like it might confuse me to have to deal with both. Sadly, after like 90 hours of playing I've more or less gotten used to the stock UI (except for the lack of chest organization...that is epic fail on Bethesda's part).

started using the SkyUI today, definitely a improvement over the shithouse default version. look forward to when the other modules are done to complete the overhaul.

using the most up-to-date version tho as a requirement SkyUI needs the 'Skyrim Script Extender' (0.12.18) to work. anyone else get the error in the top right hand corner of inventory that 'Skyrim Script Extender' is missing. is it not compatible with the latest patch (playing skyrim via steam)?

Note: also using the 'Nexus Mod Manager'.

Forget whether it's partially working or not, it's still a very early beta, maybe even alpha stage. So many of the mods have caused new problems for people. You guys are awfully courageous and generous to be testing it out just for me. I'm humbled. :)

Do you have SKSE installed? If so, are you launching the game from it? I'm not sure if NMM automatically runs the game with SKSE. It should as OBMM and FOMM did. You need the latest official patch to use SKSE so that is not the problem.

The most common cause of problems is the user, not the mod. It amazes me how many people are baffled on how to properly install mods.

But yes, some mods do and will mess up one's game. Texture mods won't (besides exceeding VRAM, 4GB patch, etc.). Interface mods look to be safe as I've installed and removed iHUD, QD, and SkyUI without problems and then installed them all again. Until the CK is released, I don't put much trust into esp mods.

Again, I have to state that pre-Creation Kit I'm pretty damned impressed with what a lot of these modders have already been able to do.

Okay, so I'm using the latest version of the FXAA Injector that comes with the handy .exe for changing settings instead of modifying a text file. I can't for the life of me get a half-way decent looking profile. Does anyone have a 2.0 compatible file I could try out?

Here is my current 2.0 FXAA Usersettings.h. My intent was slight color desaturation and a more contrast in dark areas. Some of this may come down to monitor type and/or calibration, so adjust if needed.

Anyone using the skyrim config maker from do not argue: http://donotargue.com/cfg-makers/skyrim/
When I use it, it totally messes up my game, IE, the field of view is totally messed up and it looks like im running 640 resolution in game.
Looks fine from the menu's.
Anyone have a ultra ini settings that work for them that I could try?
edit, here is what it looks like:

Hmm, using that causes my game to crash to desktop...

EDIT

Nevermind. I pasted that into injFxaaSettings.h instead of UserSettings.h. I'm not seeing any differences when I switch between yours and mine. Does injFxaaSettings.h overwrite UserSettings.h? I tried deleting injFxaaSettings.h and that crashed my game too.
