Aloha folks,

Would a Q9550 fit my MSI Mobo, like to check if it would.
Friend gave me the CPU and Corsair 6400 / 800 , so I dont want to waste it but put it to use if possible.
If anyone has information to this could you please reply, I would appreciate it very much.
Thanks in advance

The MSI K9N SLI is an AMD motherboard while the Q9550 is an Intel CPU so they will not work together. You'll either need to get an AM2 CPU for that board or a P35/P45 or X38/X48 motherboard for that CPU.

How much for the CPU? My neighbor is looking to upgrade fromthe E6300 I bought for him almost, forever ago.

And his only way of upgrading is if I Upgrade my system and give him hand-me-downs or buy his Computer parts outright.

You need to find yourself a Socket 775 motherboard for that CPU. I guess you can buy one pretty cheap. I'd find a suitable P45 chipset and then OC the hell out of that CPU. It's still pretty decent in gaming when paired with a good graphics card. :) Assuming that's what you do. ;)

Look around for a used Rampage Formula MB from ASUS.

It will not support SLi bit will support AMD Crossfire if you want dual GPUs.

I use that board with a Q9550 for my daughter, and it OCs like a bandit and is rock solid......probably the best X48 MB ever made.:D

socket 7 was awesome.. Thats the way it should still be done..

The last time I saw any 775 based motherboards for sale, they utilized the P43T chipset. This requires the use of DDR3 and not DDR2. Some retailers may have them, if you are lucky. If you plan to buy used, make sure that you see the motherboard being used in action before making your purchase.

Still plenty of 775 mobos out there...: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N=100007627 600007879&IsNodeId=1&name=LGA 775

Edit:
- correction, partial FAIL...;) Looks like most of the "new" 775 boards are using G41 chipset, which does require (on most mobos) DDR3. Not sure how it compares to a trusty P965

One question - why is this in the AMD section???

easy guys, clearly the OP needs encouragement and gentle direction, I am pleasantly surprised that this thread has yet to veer off into the hoots of derision that seemed inevitable at the outset.

Troll much? Why would you even suggest the G41 that doesn't utilize dual channel memory and only has two RAM slots? Perhaps you missed the "T" portion which means the memory controller was altered to support DDR3? Do some research on the subject. You'll find that Gigabyte and ECS make such boards.

Wait, why am I arguing with someone that made a post representing a 14 year old?

As the others have stated, the CPU and mobo are completely incompatible with one another. The CPU will not even physically fit the motherboard's socket! You see, your MSI mobo does not have any exposed pins at all whatsoever that the Q9550 requires. Plus, your MSI motherboard is Socket AM2 while the Q9550 is Socket LGA 775 - two completely different and incompatible sockets.

And even if you were to reuse the K9N SLI 570 v1 board, you are stuck with the very earliest of the Athlon and Sempron CPUs for AM2. The board does not officially support even a first-generation Phenom, let alone an Athlon II or Phenom II CPU.

Umm I am not sure but I think hes referring to the old phenom 9550 quad.
Not to sure but I believe that board had a bios up date for AM2+ processor.

Why was in a AM2 Socket anyway if it is not AMD ? I
AMD website indicates this is a AMD CPU , but this CPU is about from 5-6 yeas ago.
There is sort of confusing if it is not AMD. Well if any more information it is appreciated
very much. I have this MSI 570 v.1 Platinum , but it wont boot at all, everything works but
thats what it is doing. It has a AM2 5600+ in it right now, 650 PU, 2 GB PC2-6400 DDR2
SPE2GBPC800. Well if anyinfo thanks in advance, will check back for a reply

Q9550 = Intel
Phenom 9550 = AMD

Figure out which one it is, and then people will be able to help you more.

(does it have pins on the bottom? Then its the AMD chip)

As others are trying to point out, there is no such thing as a "Phenom X4 Q9550"

My favorite place to get cpu specs is cpu-world.

To answer the original question, no a Phenom cpu will not work on that board.
All you need to do is google for the board name and then click the tab for cpu support.
