RIP STALKER

Apparently you've never actually seen some of these weapons in other games or in real-life. They look like shit.

Do any of the mods alter the models so they aren't all left handed? Do they now eject brass on the correct side of the weapon? It's also sad that a mod has to be downloaded and installed to fix them. And BTW, it's not a licensing problem. Their likenesses are pretty much public domain since they can be seen out in public. You can see them carried by law enforcement agencies around the globe, in news reports, gun stores, etc. Licensing the correct names is another matter which they seem to have taken care of because many of them have the correct names in the game. The Desert Eagle, the HK USP, etc. are all correctly named.

None of them are named correctly unless you install mods. Desert Eagle is Black Kite, and USP is UDP Compact. Why is that sad? Because they wanted to make sure they don't get sued over something stupid like licenses?

There are the guns.

I don't remember them being named incorrectly. You could be right or a mod I installed may have fixed it. I don't know, I haven't played any of those games in some time. Regardless, it's sad because the guns look like shit and I shouldn't have to install a mod to fix that. I don't mind the names being wrong, but the guns being modeled backwards and textured badly bothers me quite a bit. Oh, the calibers being wrong for a lot of the weapons like a .45 caliber Desert Eagle bugs the SHIT out of me.

I was about to point out that the DE comes in several calibers, but after a quick fact check on my part I see it should have been the .44 variant.

bullshit

1st of all there is no Desert Eagle in STALKER

2nd even if there was, it's a fucking Zone, with monsters and such you know

how hard is to imagine rechambering the gun to what ever ammunition is available

Also Dan, if you read that page it says that these are most likely custom ones that are made to use .45ACP since it is more abundant in the Zone. Makes sense to me.

I think every Stalker fan will wholehearted agree both that the game is a "diamond in the rough" and that there is a whole lotta rough that needs to be modded away; from the weapon names, to broken quest conditions, to the headache inducing view bob in the first game.

I never played any of the mods as the vanilla versions were good enough for me...took a few stops and restarts to get into the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. but once you get sucked in there's no looking back

It wouldn't make sense to take a crappy gun that's best use as a range toy and do a bunch of machine work to give it a new .45ACP barrel and a new bolt, magazines etc. just so you could carry around a gun that's likely too big for your hands and has other ergonomic failings. I love my Desert Eagle, but when evaluated outside of it's natural state and purpose, it leaves a lot to be desired. As a practical weapon nearly anything else in my arsenal is better.

Dear Gabe, instead of buying Giant Football Helmets full of cottage cheese this week please buy the Stalker IP and studio and fund them for the next 5 years. Seriously, Their entire budget per game is what like a weeks worth of cheese burgers at Valve? I know youd been thinking about building that life size mecha-godzilla this weekend but these guys could really use a couple bucks.

Everyone knows the Desert Eagle is a turd in terms of being a combat weapon. I would have liked more realism in the next STALKER game, but mods could fix these things assuming it was going to be moddable. I wish there were more FALs, G3s, and less Desert Eagles and other odd weapons by default, but no game is perfect.

Supermod Pack replaced the garbage weapon models with realistic looking ones. Many guns.. FN FNC, CZ-52, VZ-58, Valmets, ect. A lot of nice weapons, and the are far more deadly. Slides on pistols lock back only when out of ammo, but wet/dry reloading itself is not modeled. I played version 2.4 are really enjoyed it as my 3rd STALKER SoC play through.

Terrible gun models? Are we playing different games?

They have to partially alter them due to not having licenses for them though. Just get a mod to fix it...

Honestly, the default weapons in all of the STALKER games were extremely ugly. From the horrible 3D models, to the awful animations, to the weird blurry textures, to the fact that they all had the ejection ports on the wrong side. <--- Something I'll never understand. For example, the real MP5 has the charging handle on the left and the ejection port on the right. In STALKER, Far Cry 2, ect. the ejection port and handle are on the same side. In a way they had to create their own variant and make sure it looked natural. You would think this would require more effort to do rather than just making it look like the real things. It always puzzles me.

I second this. Valve + Stalker IP would be amazing. And they could ditch that godawful source engine and beef up/stabilize the X-Ray engine.

It sounds great at first, but given their track record with HalfLife 3,how many of us would still be around by the time they finish it? :(

At least my grandkids would understand why I would get all teary eyed when reminiscing about the good old days of computer gaming!

Dan, you realize we're talking about a GAME, right? A GAME with mutants and waves of destruction that rampage across the land killing everything not safely hidden in a sturdy place..

What the hell is the problem with things being slightly off? Seriously? Thats probably one of the weakest bitches I've ever seen. It's not supposed to be realistic, or there wouldnt be mutants and waves of red death romping all over the zone. You would be walking around empty land looking at tiny pockets of radiation that might kill you if you stand in them for a few years straight..

The weapons are also not named correctly unless you install a mod (All of the complete mods change the names of weapons to be as accurate as possible). Except the Russian/Soviet weapons, most of those are correct (PMM, AK, etc)
