anyone play this game just curious on comments i see it on steam for 5$

thanks

It's great. Co-op zombie killer. Wave based. Good variety of enemies and weapons. Very weird British humor. Every game plays more or less the same, but the core elements are good enough that it stays fun.

Yes. It's worth it. I've got over 300 hours out of it...it can very very addictive :D

Most players get the crap kicked out of them (unless you play on beginner) at first, but learn the basic way you play and it's fine. The difficulties play very different too. Get used to normal/hard (easy), then you have to change up several things (especially for beserker) on suicidal/hell on earth. Infact its a totally different game :D There are 7 classes to be too, so you have a choice of roles. Most online players are ok, but even at random you can find yourself in a good team.

Twipwire is always adding new content (for free) and still is, even though the game came out a while ago. Theres also a load of free mods/new levels/mutators that are community made and you can still level stuff up on.

Im downloading the free trial right now. Steam keeps taking all my money.

Oh yes it is worth it. Much better than L4D imo, although different gameplay.

L4D is more polished in every way.

Killing Floor is basically hold your ground as wave after wave of zombies attack you. At the last wave you fight a boss. Everyone basically just uses the xpack exploit on boss battles, so I'm not sure I'd exactly call it a fight.

The two games are different. I play them both, but if I had to choose I'd pick L4D without hesitation.

L4D feels more like a game. KF feels more like the mod that it is.

For sure, however there are certain aspects of KF that I enjoy more than L4D. KF has some great iron sight and head shot mechanics. I think the variety of weapons and the class system is more fun than L4Ds scavenging gear from the environment system. Also, there's just something really satisfying about the whole team planting their backs against the wall and mowing down 300 zombies.

Yeah, I probably made that comment more on the fact that L4D is too played out for me now. I find Killing Floor to be more of a challenge too.

Yeah if you like team play its a great game. There's no single player campaign so buyer beware.

Thinking about it now it's basically a tower defense game with 4-6 players. You're given a large map and have to survive a bunch of waves of monsters. A bit more original than L4D. all the monsters have abilities like banshee screams that milk you or turn invisible, run on walls etc. It's not zombies and it's nothing like L4D. You gain xp and levels there's perks. At the end of each wave you're given a chance to go upgrade weapons based on money you've earned. The landscapes are setup to where you can have to take advantage of the terrain weld doors shut etc.

I'll level with you and I'm gonna sound like an elitist dick here. People that don't like Killing Floor and make comparisons to L4D haven't played more than a game or even maybe a map. Killing Floor is a completely different game than the L4D. There are 0 similarities.

L4D is a scenario based point A to point B arcade game in the vain of something like Final fight. I'm not dissing L4D but it's nothing like Killing Floor. Fyi Killing Floor is very heavy into mods. If you're only playing the official maps you're missing the good stuff. The Doom, Fortress and Arcade Mall Mod maps are particularly fun. I've played Killing Floor off and on since it was released. Everytime I play there's always something new and my characters are only around level 2 or 3. I have cousins at exponentially higher levels that are crazy good.

Cool you summed it up great in a way I did not. Exactly how I feel as well.

Like every valve game, don't you find L4D way waay too easy!? It's very very hard to completely die, and 99% of the time i've played it (even on advanced) has ended in passing the final level. Even if you die you start just before, istead of wave 1. If you barely shoot the AI kills pretty much anything for you. Killing floor most teams, especially new players will die very very often.

pipebomb exploit? Most teams I play on/solo don't even use guns or explosives on the final boss (on Suicidal/Hell on earth, on normal/hard its like l4d so you can sneeze and shoot each other and the boss dies as collateral damage :p) explosives are for when you play on solo (on solo it's usually just the axe) or when you want and early warning. On 6 man hell on earth it would take...many many many pipe bombs to kill him...youd all need to be level 6 demolitions and to have a load of money from not spending ammo on the waves before (hell on earth gets you next to no money, on beginner/medium/hard, sure)... Can't say I see that done often. More usually it's beserkers with chainsaws/axes or medics with crossbows.

But you could say the same about any game. In left 4 dead its just 4 shotguns against the tank (there is no boss) or molatov and run away. You get a real buzz playing 6 beserker bedlam on hell on earth running through and each one of you barely surviving! :D

this is a no brainer for $5, I wouldn't think twice about snatching it up even if I didn't have time to play it.

doesn't actually own the game or hasn't played any remotely recent builds since the first dlc, and never touches any custom map or mod content amiright.

Think what you wish.

Last time I played was on Halloween to help get into the spirit of the holiday.

fanboy spotted captain!

Killing Floor is totally worth $5, $10, and I'd say even $15 dollars.

It's a great LAN game, its one of the few coop vs. ai games that I can regularly enjoy.

And if you crank up the difficulty it gets crazy.

I have played KF for about 50-60 hours and burnttoast is pretty dead-on with his quick summary. You know KF is low budget when you try to knife another player and it plays the same sound/animation for when you attack a wall... I am also not a fan of the super grind they call a level system. You have to play 100+ hours just to get to perk level 5 on on just one class, and that is just ridiculous.

Depending on my mood I usually play 1 game and that's about all I can handle for KF.

Bought it a little while ago during the Halloween sale, its a pretty good game but kinda challenging and team work is crucial. Forget playing solo, online with teammates is where this game is at. I like some of the one liners in this game, such as "I'm trying to heal you, not bloody tickle you".

definitely a great buy for 5 bucks. I've played it for about 250 hours.
You might not get that amount of playtime from it as a new player, because of the way new content has rejuvenated the game over time when it has gotten stale many times for us veteran players - but you will get more than your money's worth.

TWI is still actively adding free content, though the game is essentially a mod and 2.5-3 years old - they do this to all their games and you can probably expect this from KF until noone plays it anymore and/or KF2 is out.

Killing Floor usually has a nice community, way better than pubbies in L4D games in my experience.

Thats one of the weird things that I kind dig on L4D for. L4D has zero community and trying to just join a internet game is a joke. It's better to just play bots.

Killing Floor 9/10 games are people that actually give a shit and try to work together. I suspect it's the leveling.

The only thing that screws up the experience for me is the awful mouse accel, but it really is entertaining.

you don't have to play 100s of hours or cheat, you're just doing it wrong. with a good team you would breeze through your first 4 levels like nothing, it's levels 5 and 6 that actually take a fair bit of time, even then playing with people that know you need to level and helping you out in the process could easily powerlevel any class in no time. and then there's always whiltelisted custom maps that are always better for leveling certain classes.

the real problem is new players derping around with randoms, either in colonial firing squad camps or running around like 6 headless chickens on the shitty default maps, you're not actually playing killing floor. a real 6 man team on hell mode with your friends who know what they're doing, and quality maps that force you to think on your feet is a completely different experience, from playing with pubstars that have no coordination at all.

It's low-budget and kinda cheesy but I like it. I don't play it enough but it's really fun.

You level up in the game so make sure to start out on some easy difficulty servers otherwise you'll die pretty fast.

Good game, fun for awhile although trying to grind levels is tedious as hell. The leveling system does not feel rewarding at all considering how long it takes to level.

L4D is definitely more polished overall and probably a better game... but for some reason I have a ton more time logged in killing floor according to steam.

I have spent all but about 2 hours playing with the same group of people, all of them with a couple hundred hours logged in KF.

Yeah, that's totally inaccurate.

The Killing Floor Twisted Christmas event starts Dec.14.
It will have a new map Santa's Evil Lair and of course the zombies will be wearing their Christmas skins.
http://www.killingfloorthegame.com/xmas/

That was last year!

This year has a similar event and has already started (on the 7th) and features a new map (ice caves) and a load of new weapons! The zeds are in the christmas skins again so you can get any of last years acheivements if you missed them! :D

Yeah, that's totally inaccurate.

this is completely accurate and I've done it with every class. why would I make it up, because I care if you like the game? all I'm trying to say is, there's a huge discrepency in this community between casuals and those who get it, it's a completely different playstyle. most obvious being the noob gorilla math new players use to level their classes, "if I play on maximum difficulty it means mobs have more health and I level faster right?", or "I want to level this class. I'm going to keep using this class no matter what anyone else picks or how many times we fail.", then they wonder why it's taking forever.

here's a couple hints:

- completing 1 map with a 6 man team surviving every wave on a lower difficulty actually nets all players more progress, than dying halfway through 6 maps on a harder mode
- hell mode in solo or half a team is actually easier and nets you less progress than suicidal with a full team, same is true with scaling on any modes below this

point being, if you're dying every other wave, you're doing it wrong. if you're grinding it out on your own (unless you're on the fake specimen mod), you're doing it wrong. this assumption is just based on the vast majority of pubbers, who are usually doing it wrong.

Nice

There are also some custom maps that are useful for leveling quickly.

I think most people are too used to being gratified more quickly in terms of leveling up. That said though, it could be beneficial to spread the levels out more. Levels 5 and 6 do take a while.

I <3 Killing Floor! If you have a few friends to play with it's an amazing game. It's also very challenging and requires lots of teamwork.

Challenging? I don't know about that, Hell on Earth, just run circles and never stop. GG. Its fun but quickly dies out.

Oops, my bad.
Thanks for the info DeathPrincess.
I corrected my original post.
The correct link for this years Twisted Christmas Event 2 is:

If you want to host a game the Christmas maps are:
KF-EvilSantasLair and KF-IceCave.

uhh play it on the hardest difficulty with a few players. Each player adds more zombies. If you dont think that is challenging then you are Pr0.

If you get a chance, be sure to try some custom maps with 24 or 32 players. Nothing funnier than multiple fleshpounds running toward a group of 10+ people and everyone starts panicking and runs away.

Hell on earth is the hardest and even with 6 people all u have to do is run big circles on the maps. Works all the time
