Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

Anyone know how to get the patch? Since it's huge I'd like to start the DL remotely from work so I can play tonight.

As soon as I open origin it start to download without ask anything. ( I guess I have auto update enable somewhere ) I would like to have a files to download instead since I have 3 PCs with BF3
 
They make somes change in the battlelog too.

Thanks, had to close and reopen Origin. Right clicking BF3 and hitting "Check for Updates" brought up nothing. Said it was up to date.

If there is one thing Origin is good at, it's maxing out my connection. I'm downloading at a solid 4 MB/s, I've never seen anything else push it above 3.5-3.7.
 
I feel bad for the other teams that Shiz and i went up against last night lol. When you know what your doing you can swing the tide of battle in metro conquest fairly easy.
lol, yep those guys were getting worked pretty good Had some fun in the other maps also, I love that little bird :D
 
Not liking the changes made to the scoreboard. Ping is nice, but I can't find a way to scroll down while alive, making it useless if you are in the bottom 16.

what can of resolution you have ? I can see the 64 players and I still have a lot of room for more, this on a 1920x1200 and also a 1920x1080

1650x1080... it seems to be bugged. Sometimes it shows all 64, sometimes it only shows 32 . When its 32, there is a scroll bar, but you cant use it unless your dead.

I saw the same thing before the patch; sometimes all 64 players would show with room to spare, sometimes about half would show with a scroll bar (which only worked sometimes). 1920x1080.
 
Oh, can't wait to fire this game up, hopefully not everyone and their mom's will be using IRNV anymore!
 
sweet,t here's ping on the scoreboard? finally.. although I wish there was a way to constantly show ping (like FPS). Speaking of which, this has probably been answered somewhere but is there a way to load up console commands (like render.drawfps 1) on start up?
 
wtf is that I update 1 pc this morning without problem and look at this

now it's at 45 gb ???????

Oh, since they nerf'd the IRNV on the rifle scopes, did they touch the Thermal in the vehicles? I find it useful for removing land mines...so I'm hoping they don't mess with that...otherwise tanks will be pretty much useless against the 64 engineers in a server.
 
i am so glad they nerfed the IR into the fucking ground. i tried to use it a few times but in some areas you literally cannot see 20 feet with it, it simply doesn't light up the person at all. also the interpolation setting is kinda neato, nice on a low ping server.

but... one thing seems to have returned. two people can now kill each other once again at close range. me and some other guy killed each other with rifles at about 10 feet away.

i was playing last night and youre right everyone and their mom was using the noob vision scope. i couldnt move more than 20 feet before i was shot. if they made the inrv for the knife they would have been using it as well. im glad its nerfed now.

Frustrating...yet hilarious and somewhat realistic all at the same time...

I believe if it's conquest large it will show 32 per team, regular conquest will show 16 (from my experience at least).

you know whats funny tho? whenever i'm not playing engineer and need one i can never find one! Either that or people are too busy hoarding their rpgs for anti-personnel instead of armor :(
 
irnv is still usefull in some situations it seems. on caspian border it doesnt block out the sun and theres a limit on how far you can use it.it works the same at close distances though. you cant see someone lit up from forrest flag to the building on hiltop. it was useless on metro, you cant see anything just fog.
 
Tons of frame stuttering and you can see pings now but not your own?? :confused:

I wish DICE could release one patch that manages not to fuck up something. I think I'll just put this game on the back burner for a while and try it in the future.

That's because of all the explosions and smoke-was pretty much that way before the patch as well, unless the server was half-empty.
Back to the EoTech for CQB (which i had pretty much switched to anyway without the plummeting score that so many said would accompant the switch).
I think a lot of people attribute their deaths to the IRNV when instead they might think about the fact that when they respawn, they go righ back to the same place where they died.
It's called being predicatable, and you all know that you can always count on (once you learn the maps) finding people to wax in the same spot every time.
Like I said before, it's a tool in the toolbox, but a good player (not putting myself in that group, just the group that is familiar with the maps via play time) will know where to rack up kills.

should stop trying to please everyone and just make the game the way it should be.

I think DICE get mainly their feed back from those as they seems to be the one who populate the battlelog forum

i guess the ones of us that dont care enough to comment on the forum are to blame huh? haha....

im just waiting for BF3 to reach the point where all the noobs drop off like they did in BF2. then you find servers where at least 75% of the people know what theyre doing
 
Yeah Battlelog is all screwy tonight. I could not make a party with my friends etc.

Not sure if it's doing it again today, but you have to refresh after each action. For some reason, you actually DO create a party, it just doesn't display - unless you refresh. Very odd. If another person joins the party, you can hear them on voice chat, but not see them in the party, unless you refresh.

Being able to update Battlelog all the time is a net positive, but it does create some odd little bugs that seem to come out of nowhere.
 
if I go on their forum to say what I think of their mortars and other stuf, I will get ban for sure, and ban on their forum is ban on the game too, what a bunch .... ( can't say the word, may be EA monitor here too or install a key log in my pc with their origin )
 
Exactly. I do not enjoy camping. Too boring. Though, there is one problem. On bright maps with buildings, when enemy is inside the building you cannot see hm without IRNV. And now, when it is nerfed it will be impossible to see enemies inside the buildings.

Which is the way it should be - hard to look from a light place into a dark place and see anything. That's why they call it concealment.

I'm hoping that the 33% increase in reload time and increased time-to-target for the mortars will make a noticeable difference.

Ya but when you are inside those building since a wild, with those huge windows, you should be able to see something in the stair , I have no light in my house in the day and I can see in the stair, and my windows are way smaller

What GPU/drivers are you using? I don't have an issue seeing inside the buildings, yes some are a bit dark but not really an issue.

Yeah, the only problem with that somone inside the building wih suppressor can easyly kill people below and there is no way you can find who is killing you if killcam is disabled. Even if enemy aktivelly run inside the building you will not see that - it will all be black for you.

on a pc I have 2 x 580 in sli and the last WQHL nvidia driver and the other PC it's a single 580 with same driver , my other pc have a set of 460 in SLI , the problem I describe is when you are at second a third floor and you want go down the stair, everything is black

I will generally agree with this on smaller servers, but on 64 player servers, being unpredictable is limited and sometimes impossible. The IRNV allowed terrible players to simply follow a bright red/orange blob and rack up kills they probably could not normally get, at any range because they don't have the vision to do so. When I first got it with the PKP, I could decimate whole teams on camo friendly maps like Caspian. I would regularly go 27-3 etc for the short period I used it. Luckily I realized how lame it is and stopped before I reached 300 kills with the gun.

It is a heavy crutch that gives you a significantly unfair advantage in many cases, while having little weaknesses (limited surrounding vision and so-so aim speed).

I consider myself a pretty good player, and do fairly well without it (~1.6kdr and 1.7wlr, great focus on objectives and class support); so I greatly welcome this change. Now if someone can regularly take me down, I can view them as a good player rather than some douche staring through his IRNV wall hack all day. Looking forward to playing tonight.
 
Anybody have any comments on the following ?

Slightly decreased the accuracy for all weapons on fully automatic, burst fire is now preferable at mid to long range.

and

Slightly increased the recoil on the M416
