i feel like the extra 1gb of memory is somewhat wasteful on a 6870.
I guess it's good I waited to see what you guys said, what would you guys recommend for a card in that price range then? I'm still using a 9800gtx and could use an upgrade...
Ugghhh,... thought this was the 6970. Damn AMD for changing their numbering scheme this generation.
Now a 6970 for $179 would be HOT.
Any benchmarks/reviews to back that up? Not being snarky, but dead serious, I've been a little behind lately over the higher end cards and 1GB vs 2GB etc.
I think the general wisdom is that you won't see the benefit of 2gb until you bump up bast 1920x resolutions, and that you will want something in the 69x0 range to power a setup with that high a res (especially if you go with eyefinity). End result is that in most cases where you would be using a 68x0 you simply won't be in a situation where you a vram limited instead of gpu limited.
I think this is nonsense, BF3 already uses 1.4GB+ of VRAM on higher settings, which HD6870 can easily handle.

I think we are definitely at the point where buying a 1GB at all card is dubious, unless you just get a great deal.
