AT&T WP7 for $0.01 on 11-26-11

Anyone who ordered on Saturday get a shipping notice, yet? Looks like AT&T botched my order. First they said it shipped, now it's listed as canceled. I have to call them in the morning and try to find out what's going on. I don't like AT&T's limited customer service hours.
I think I've got my order straightened out. AT&T mistakenly sent a Focus Flash, which should be delivered tomorrow. They've arranged for me to take it to one of their stores where I can swap it for an S. Hope it'll be as simple as they made it sound.

Well that's good. Hopefully it's painfree.

Mail hasn't come yet today (I live a mile from work), but I'm hopeful. USPS status hasn't changed. Monday and Tuesday I just read all day long about the phone and was so excited to go home and get it, and when the phone wasn't there it killed me! Can't do it a 3rd day in a row.

Then tonight when you go home, and find that it isn't there, you'll be upset, but you'll get over it. Tomorrow, you'll actually get some work done, completely forget about the phone until late afternoon, then not even care.

Been there done that.

It's a tough life! lol

Lucky. I called AT&T and they told me it was on backorder, and to expect it to take 5 to 7 days from when I ordered to get shipped.

I ordered a Focus S from Amazon using the penny deal on Thursday and have been told that it's on backorder also. Amazon says that it won't ship until next Tuesday.

mine was delivered also but since they refuse to ship to alaska i had to ship to family who will then ship to me...

You couldn't pay me to subscribe to AT&T, my dad was a lifelong customer of over 35 years and the stuff they tried to pull was unforgivable.

How do you like it?

C-Net gave it a great review. Users liked it even better.

He got a Titan, not the Focus S.

This phone is outstanding. I am thrilled and am now going to be one of those annoying people always messing with their phone. Glad I read so much about it and watched a lot of videos, I can already work my way around pretty well. It is NOT too big for the hand. Some pockets, maybe. Don't think I'm going to get a case or screen protector and just cross my fingers. It is incredibly fast and the software works great.

3 minor things about the phone so far:

1) Camera lens protrudes a bit and has me worried about scratches/smudges.
2) Seems very bright in auto mode in the dark.
3) Speakerphone could be a bit louder.

2 things about WP7:
1) Wish battery percentage was easier to find.
2) Immediately unlinked facebook from the phone and just went with an app. I simply do not need to be that tied in with the majority of my facebook "friends".

Loving the experience so far. Glad I went huge.

Glad you like it! I had pretty much all the same feelings about it. I love when people try to talk it down because it isn't an iPhone or Droid. Half those people don't know anything about them.

If you decide to developer unlock ($9 thru ChevronWP7 authorized by MS), you can get an app somewhere on xda-developers for a live tile that has battery percentage. Simple things like that, I'm willing to deal with. It's a brand new OS so it's not a big deal.

Have a need for a checkbook type app? I just finished my primary development and testing tonight, on an app (not linked to your bank in any way. Just a manual entry check register). Should be on the marketplace in 2 weeks, tops. Keep your eye out for Checkbook Metro if interested :D

Awesome! Just found out how to link contact profiles to each other. Also, figured out how to filter your contacts list. So you can link facebook to your phone, but have the People app show just your google contacts. Then, it does a pretty good job of linking facebook accounts to google accounts and so your google contacts have their facebook pics, so the people tile looks nice. Also, you can manually link something like "Dad" in Google contacts to his actual name in Facebook contacts. Then inside the people hub you can see any facebook things he does, and contact him about a million different ways.

I was just thinking about how poorly it was done, but now I think it's awesome.

Had a friend over yesterday to help with some final details for my app and the website. He was blown away by the speed. His first comment when he unlocked the phone was he really liked the live tiles. The form factor was amazing compared to his HTC thunderbolt with an extended battery on it (cause it only lasts til 1pm). Then the speed. I was searching for something in the marketplace and he could see the phone. Absolutely loved how fast each transition was, even while loading data.

This isn't the first time I've heard this while showing someone.
Using his phone for a minute reaffirmed that Droid is the last place you should be.

So yesterday I used the GPS in a real scenario, and unfortunately it could not find the pizza place I was trying to find. Was pretty frustrated. Bing knew where the store was next to it, but simply couldn't find Papa Murphy's. Hopefully that is a rare occurrence. I'm using the stock Maps app. I don't want to use any others if they do not support voice commands.

Anyway, my first full day with the phone was awesome except for that. I unplugged yesterday at 100% at 5pm, used the GPS a bunch, took a bunch of pictures, browsed the net a bunch and had about a 30 minute phone call. It's now 8:30a and I still have 47%. Also listened to MP3s on it this morning for about an hour.

Interesting, I've never had a problem like that on my Arrive though the Sprint GPS app would sometimes get wonky if I stopped off along the way of a trip and I would have to restart the trip, that seems to have been resolved since the Mango update.

I typed it in and used voice, and in either instance there would be no results under "Local". The web results obviously had their website. What ended up working was looking for "Pizza", then scrolling a bunch to find it. And I mean a bunch.

I've heard mixed reviews about the native maps app. I think there was a 3rd party developed one that used Google that's supposedly really good. I haven't had the need to look for it though :(

Still awaiting delivery so I can exchange it for an S.

TOJ - How 'bout some pics of your Titan?

The Windows Phone maps app is decent. It's their navigation that's really lacking. Microsoft is giving everyone who buys a Windows Phone a $25 app card right now. Going to use mine to buy Navigon probably. You can also sideload Nokia Drive if you're cheap and don't mind the basicness of it.

Have a Titan on AT&T. Loving it so far despite it not being very hack friendly. Also own several android devices I use for development/fun.

Ah, that's what it was. The navigation that is sub par.

Sucks having to wait 6-8 weeks, or how ever long it takes to get the app store gift card.

Side note, does anyone know if those can be purchased for other people?

I love this phone more and more as I become for fluent in its use. I'm now very productive with it and quick at tasks.

Here's a question: While composing an email, the "To:" field pulls from all my facebook contacts as well. I have my People tile just showing my google contacts. Anyway I can make the email app behave similarly?

Hey guys, I wrote a bit back in the thread on the Titan vs Focus S. After a bunch of hours of research and two trips to the store, I finally decided on a Focus S. Thankfully, I'm very much enjoying my Windows Phone experience on the Focus thus far.

I will say that if the Titan wasn't as physically big as it is, I would have chosen the HTC. Titan's display doesn't have the "wow" factor of SAMOLED+ but it's still respectable. The other biggest reason to go with Titan would be HTC vs Samsung post-release support. I pray that Samsung is still supporting the S a year from now, but from what Samsung has done with previous phones, it is not likely...

The other downsides to the S are the camera button on the lower right, the music quality, and no god damn expandable memory. I turned on the "prevent accidental camera button press" in camera settings, but I still easily half click the button when one-handing it in my right hand which is annoying to feel. Unfortunately, the music quality is pretty fucking bad on the S - my music just feels so flat and there is static hissing in between tracks. I won't be able to turn my phone into a music player but some music (however bad the quality) is better than no music at all.

Otherwise, I'm happy with my purchase overall. I'm really liking Windows Phone, despite being integrated with XBox Live (PS3 only for me) and Zune player (Zune is fine, I just didn't want the MS "iTunes" equivalent on my PC). I can't wait to see what MS comes up with for this young OS.

With the Titan, I'm getting the same audio issues Yankee's describing. From what I can figure out, seems like the software is just amping up the volume too high... Not sure how to fix that. Otherwise, though, loving this phone :)

Yes!

You used your email confirmation as proof? I'm sure that'll be ok...I filled it out half way at night on the 17th (when I got an email saying it was available), and I don't think I submitted my proof of purchase for another 2-3 days. I just received the email now. I had my phone prior to black friday.

Well, I'm returning my Focus S, later today. Nothing's wrong with it, but AT&T really screwed up my order. They mistakenly sent a Focus Flash when I ordered an S on 11/26 during their 1 cent sale, but made arrangements for me to exchange it for an S at an AT&T store. Took it last Friday, made the exchange, everything seemed fine.

Yesterday, I got an e-mail from them stating I would be billed $199 for the S.

WTF?????

I called to find out what was wrong and it came down to AT&T claiming they had no record of me ever buying the S for 1 cent... despite the fact that I had a full print out of the invoice in my hands.

WTF?????

I grew increasingly angry at their utter failure to honor my legitimate order, so after 84 minutes and being transferred 5 times I just canceled everything. Back goes the phone and I now understand why so many people despise AT&T's customer service.
