Get More Into YouTube

Any change, even a change for the better, is always accompanied by drawbacks and discomforts.

Arnold Bennett

Nobody likes new things because they are new, humans are stubborn and are afraid of change. Whether that change be good or bad, you can't really tell until time progresses. If it ain't broke don't fix it doesn't really apply to visuals. They didn't change how videos work, just the aesthetics of the site. Navigation still functions primarily the same, the only real difference is the main page. Deal with it.

Don't give idiots the money from videos = Instant profit and less shit videos.

Basic buisness premise. Make a service irritating then less buisness. Less people to click on the gazzlion ads, and less profit. More enjoable site, more visitors, more profit.

Almost every single video starts with a preview video. The has promoted videos on the side, top banner on the left, occasional surrounding ads and occasional text ads below. The thse stupid popups on the video. Have as many ads as you want surround the videos, but making the sites content irritating is just annoying.

Seriously you have to take a screen shot of the banner on the left (is this on the main page or on all videos? cause i only see the one on the homepage), i have never seen it, and the text ads below either.

I guess i just don't care about the ads that much because they just are not that intrusive and I also use adblock plus which gets rid of the ad above the promoted video which is the worst but not the video ads before the videos. Most of the ads on the site like the promoted video are not flashy at all with just a yellow box around it that lets you know its an ad but again isn't flashy. Honestly I go days without seeing video ads in front of videos i watch since it does have to be enabled by the user, and I use YouTube quite a lot. Also as for not giving money to people, they don't get money if their video are terrible, no one watches it, everyone dislikes it and the people don't get any money from that. The system rewards quality, its not like they get a dollar for every view, they get cents for every ad click they get which has the potential to add up with millions of views but not with 250 views or even 15,000 view or less. Comparing YouTube to say...IGN's videos, where they display a video ad that is 30 seconds to a minute long that you can't skip and you'll realize that you've got it pretty good at youtube.

Also, nothing in this world is free, and if you ever expect to get something for nothing it just doesn't exist, not in the world of physics and not in the world of business. Energy just doesn't appear out of no where and costs have to be offset somehow.

Google doesn't even use the crappy practice of putting ads in the white space on the outside that gets you to click on accident. In fact none of their ads are intrusive compared to the rest of the web.

IT'S COMPLETE FUCKING SHIT.

There's really nothing else to say other than that. It's a complete jumbled and unorganized mess. The previous layout was nearly perfect as far as managing your subscribtion videos was concerned. They were all boxed together from who uplaoded them. You could delete the ones you watched. Hell, they actaully labeled who the videos were uploaded by instead of using SOME STUPID meaningless icon to represent who uploaded them.

Now? Everything is jumbled into one long mess. Apparently we don't have wide-screen monitors or anything, so instead we have to scroll, and scroll and SCROLL if we want to see more than 5 videos on our main page. Because we're all still using 800x800 screens...

I really have nothing nice to say about this. Other updates I've gotten used to and for the most part I even appreciated. This? This is the biggest step backwards in UI design I've seen ANY website perform since those retards at Gawker changed their layouts.

What is up with the trend in music and voice overs used in these ads? Kinda simple, shiny, happy "Apple" music. Strumming guitar with a triangle or something making its appearance somewhere later. Arggh!

Makes me want to put my fist through the monitor.

Simples. Apple knows how to sell. Emulation follows success.

I'm still amazed gawker hasn't changed or reverted the design... but then I realize that every extra "click" or "element loaded" = more $$$. And with every design change that blends the adspace and the content space = more $$. And with every fake-article-paid-advertisement-review = more $$$.

yeah, I'm a bit opinionated on that place.

It's on all videos, but doesn't always appear. This is the bigger example, theres also shorter ones. Sometimes it's a whole other video.

I know things can't be for free. But you miss the point. Having this onslaught of adverts is going to do 2 things:

1. Having so many adverts will mean that 1m product placements are going to have little to no click throughs, as these will all be divided up between the multiple ads. Which means advertizers will see little to no point in advertizing, so they will have to drop the cost of placements.
2. People will be more and more annoyed by the constant little annoying ads everywhere, which they seem to pile on more and more and more. Meaning less and less people will use the site so less advertizing income. Go to almost any of their competitors (dailymotion, veoh etc.) they seem to manage without all this crap (and usually have much higher quality/fastre loading).

I HATE the new sidebar. Now you have to hover over each link to determine if it's been clicked (purple). EUGH!

Economy (or currency specifically) is not dictated by Nature. It is something completly fabricated in the minds of humans. Name one other species in the known universe that uses a currency system....

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Still "suggests" that I would enjoy Ray Williams Johnson. I don't watch his bullshit. I don't watch sxephil that he ripped off. And I downrate any of the jackoffs that post a video about a current video and then its just 5 minutes of them doing facetime just Ray and Phil.

So why suggest to me what I obviously consider puke????

Well the economy is a real thing and in its current state it works that you try to put money in and make money. Honestly you can't say that you just get free money. I was comparing it to physics in terms of energy which is a valid metaphor. Because energy doesn't just appear (in our current understanding of the world) and the initial energy of the system plus the potential will always be the same as the output energy. If i was comparing our economy to say rabbits, you're right i would be totally off, but i'm not.

Also ya death princess i see that, if you hate them so much just get adblock plus, it gets rid of that ad on the right and the banner ad on the main page. The only ads i get are short video ads that i can't skip <15 seconds or long video ads that i can skip after 5 seconds and the ads that you can exit out of at the bottom that come in when the yellow bar appears.

And ya i agree ads can be annoying, but thats how google makes money and youtube is a staple in video streaming that even if you hate the ads you go to the site. Like i said adblock plus works for the most annoying ads anyway.

At first I thought it was a troll. The eccentric, young-ish (kind of looks like the work I did back in primary school), inefficient, non-minimalistic, overly-flashy design just seemed like something Google would never do. I guess surprises come in all shapes and colors :p

Now, if Youtube had themes, and we could chose which we'd like, then it'd be a go. I'm all for choice, but if you want something that makes as many people happy as possible, then simple and plain is the way to go.

Love the new layout, much easier to find videos I want and the front page loads faster as they cut out all the flash junk.

Vocal Minority, most people aren't gonna spend time to praise a new design but the old folks love to bitch about change. ;)

I FKING' HATE THE NEW USER CHANNEL LOOK. I hate it when morons in high places attempt to justify their salaries by completely overhauling shit that isn't broken, that people liked, that only needed VERY MINOR tweaks.

I'd have been happy with a simple addition, like BBS tags that I could copy and paste in forums, instead of having to do the tags myself EVERYTIME.

Honestly, they made me hate YT overnight. I don't even feel like logging in to my channel any more.

The new YT homepage isn't bad, but the user channels suck.

Yeah the new channel design looks like a flaming piece of shit, WTF was the team thinking when they designed this new layout, its annoying to have to click on multiple times just to view a certain item, fucking horrible
