Get More Into YouTube

Good lord. Why do websites change the layout just for the hell of changing the layout. It's fine as it is.

What is up with the trend in music and voice overs used in these ads? Kinda simple, shiny, happy "Apple" music. Strumming guitar with a triangle or something making its appearance somewhere later. Arggh!

Makes me want to put my fist through the monitor.

Hooray! More useless JS/HTML5/flash/whatever effects. I mean it's not like I need to chew through even more clock cycles than what my poor C2D ULV can provide, only to add nothing more to my browsing experience other than to slow it down.

Seriously, Google. Can we have a break after going through the 340985070985 updated youtube layouts that we've seen in the past 5 years? Maybe just settle on a simple minimalist design for about a decade, kinda like the model you've seem to give up on for your first site.

I liked the Cosmic Panda look they were beta'ing for a few months. Why didn't they stick with that?

The way it was over a year ago was the best, it felt like youtube, it didnt feel like facebook. My accounting professor was right, facebook will be the end of intelligent conversation and the end of humanity.

The only change I wish they'd make to Youtube is the ability to change the background for EVERYTHING to black, or at least any color that isn't BLINDING BRIGHT WHITE!

Seriously. Everytime I go to Youtube, I get flashbanged, minus the deafening sound.

useless code zombies gotta justify their continued existence on the payroll - it's the same all over the web

Yeah I really like it, it's a lot better than the old way.
I don't understand people's complaining, it's the exact same layout only with a different 'skin'.

Oh site redesigns...some are horrible (Kotaku), some are minimal after tweaking(tech report), and the very few go from trash to perfect (radio3.cbc.ca).

Seriously, I wish there was a USA version of cbc radio3. It's incredibly intuitive, loads quickly, is relatively bug free, has zero obtrusive ads, and has a center placed music player that avoids the typical "scroll through 4 pages of bs before hitting the content" that most sites rely on.

Frankly the new youtube looks like myspace.

Seems fine to me. just wish it used more horizontal space.

Yeah Kotaku is really bad. I'm glad they made their willingness to write paid ads so obvious so I don't feel interested in visiting that ugly site anymore.

My wife and I have been using the new layout for weeks. Well - I have been. She wasn't too fond of it when YouTube asked her to test it out, so she switched back. I happen to love it, though. Looks slick and takes no time to get used to if you're open to such things. A lot of people aren't liking the change, but I'm way past used to it and now think the old layout looks ugly as shit :p

I get nothing like what is shown in the video. The background isnt pure white, more of an eggshell or off white, and the layout is similiar but the skin I guees isnt wha they set it too in the video.

Nice, I ended up unsubscribing 20 out of 29 subscriptions to see the new uploads.

I wish theyd just drop the stupid ads before videos constantly. It's really annoying to go see a 15 second clip and have to be subjected to 30 seconds of crap first (also it doesn't make me want to buy whatever it is, as I automatically have a negative opinion of it for being shoved in my face). Then while the video is playing 3 pop up messages in the video at the bottom, ads round the video, seperate video ads playing at the side, google ads below the ad picture of the video, then the top of the list of related videos all being product placements... Doesn't exactly equate to a good experience...

Seriously everytime when YouTube implements a new design to the site, it always look confusing and shit, I wish they just leave it the way it was when it worked fine.

I hate it, I've had my youtube account since 2006. it was great till 2008/2009 afterwards I've just lost interest in the website, even mediafire updated their website layout now.. (if on a non-pro account mediafire= AD POP-UPS like crazy) ugh new layouts can suck it.

I am yet to encounter ads in youtube. ;) :D :p

No, there's a lot more crap all over--and no way (it seems) to remove the extraneous stuff.

I don't see anything wrong with it. To the "not broke don't fix it" crowd, it isn't about fixing something that's broken. It's about refreshing something that's been around a long time. Every company change their designs once in awhile.

Ads only appear on Youtube partner videos and those people with ads before/after their videos get money from them.

Change solely for the sake of change is never good.

Well Google has to make money somehow and those people with ads on their videos get a portion as well. As for having to watch the video theres always been an option for me to skip it around 5 seconds in if i don't care for it. Honestly compared to hulu, ign and many others I really enjoy it, i can actually watch the clip if it interests me and if i don't, i hit skip this ad, or click on the x on the ads on the bottom. Honestly i'm a little confused as to what website you're actually at.

Specifically this.
ads round the video, seperate video ads playing at the side, google ads below the ad picture of the video, then the top of the list of related videos all being product placements

Seperate video ads? google ads below the ad picture? I do however see the ad at the top of the video list. I did specifically turn off adblock plus to see what you were talking about and can only see one of the ads that you listed right there. The ads on the bottom of the video even show when they are going to show up, so you know when to exit out of them.

You'll definitely have to show me a video or a screenshot of what you're talking about.

Can't edit for some reason, but i guess the 5 second skip is only there if the video is 20 seconds or more, which is still completely awesome with me. LIke i said before, google's business is ads, they can't just serve millions with video for free, they can't give us gmail, search, youtube for free, it costs money and I stand by these ads not being intrusive.

Download the firefox plugin called "stylish" and never deal with a white background ever again :)

Don't give idiots the money from videos = Instant profit and less shit videos.

Basic buisness premise. Make a service irritating then less buisness. Less people to click on the gazzlion ads, and less profit. More enjoable site, more visitors, more profit.

Almost every single video starts with a preview video. The has promoted videos on the side, top banner on the left, occasional surrounding ads and occasional text ads below. The thse stupid popups on the video. Have as many ads as you want surround the videos, but making the sites content irritating is just annoying.
