800,000 Xbox 360s Sold In 24 Hours

(Source: Internal data)

Well that says it all doesn't. Microsoft believes itself that they sell that amount of machines would be a disaster waiting to happen see if that happens anymore days of the year they might have to ramp up manufacturing by a lot or wait a shortage during the holiday season.

Some people ay MS do have their head up their ass with such a stupid claim and what is worse people printing it .....

There will be a lot of happy kids this Xmas then evidently. More to curse up a storm on Xbox Live during Fire Fights.

I don't how you guys are doing it, But I have built 3 gaming computers for under 500 each( with legit OS) in the last 3 years. It Irks me to no end when people say that you need almost a grand.

For example, last year i built amd gaming system for less then 350....ALL new parts.

X3 740 - 66, BF sale
Biostar mobo - 50
Cheap 4gb ram - 60 (at the time)
AMD 4870 - 80
cheap ocz psu - 40
optical drive - 12
HDD - 40

Total's 348.

Completely capable of playing EVERYTHING at fairly good frame rates.
More expensive then a console...yes, but nowhere near a grand.
Be careful there, you're using logic. As we all know, console gamers are incapable of logic. That's why they buy overpriced outdated hardware from the stone age, and somehow justify it even though they can't surf the web or print from the console.

Hi.

I'm one of those rare motherfuckers that plays on pc and on console. In fact I blew at least 60 bucks on the Steam sale, if not closer to a hundred.

So why do I play on console you ask?

Because some games get the red carpet treatment on a console vs. Pc, and vice versa. Some games I play on pc. Others I play on my 360, especially with my cousins who all have 360's but have no need for a gaming pc, as they aren't interested in pc gaming. I'd still like a ps3 for the exclusives like MGS4.
The same reason why everyone else does. I don't think there's a single member of HardOCP who doesn't own some sort of game console. We wouldn't be spewing how superior PC gaming is, if we didn't know how it was on the other side. Besides, not all games get ported to PC. Which basically means you have no choice.
That being said its no surprise the console sold as it did, considering the bundles they had everywhere. If you were in the market for one and had the money, you are either a damn fool or know something that nearly 1 million others don't. And most likely the latter doesn't apply, so that kinda narrows it down.
Most likely consoles sold well due to recent titles. BF3 and MW3 are probably the biggest reasons why people went out to buy them.

Kinda sad though, that Xbox 360 players still need to pay a monthly fee to play games online. Worth to point out that most games on PC is free to play online.

What about the PSU and windows 7? That's about $150 right? So $650 is more than double a $300 PS3.

Oh and by the way what mb are you using? +$80?

The shuttle includes the power supply and motherboard?

Nice try though.

Must be kind of messy without a case, and tough to play without an OS, display, keyboard or mouse :)

I think its safe to assume that anyone that is thinking about buying a console at least has a desktop computer (or access to all of those things). The tv they were planning on using for the 360 would also make a nice monitor.

You will notice I said under 500... I tallied up the computer hardware. I had a monitor and keyboard. I bought a copy of vista for 45 bucks on Craigslist. My point still stands, you don't need anywhere near a grand for a gaming computer. That system played everything at 1080, with lowered setting for certain games. This is not to bash consoles, they are great, I recently sold my Xbox, they are very convienent.

The average consumer has no idea how to build a cheap gaming computer, or even tweeking the game setting to make it work on a lower spec system. Some who think they are "technical" becasue they know how to install a video card, end up at Best Buy paying $400 for a video card that is 2 generations old.
Others spend well over $1000 on a prebuilt "gaming pc" that likely has worse specs than what you built.

That's why so many people buy consoles.

Besides, the market for Consoles is aimed at the more casual gamers.
I have a 3 year old Wii that still gets alot of use. Works fine for party/family type games. Who needs 1080p resolution to play Monopoly or Trivial Persuit type games? (it's much easier to pickup & put away a board game when it's on the TV screen)

That's one of the reasons I haven't bought a Xbox. Hate having pay a monthy/yearly fee on top of having to pay for the console/games.

plenty of pc games have a monthly fee to play online , and IMO paying 99 bucks a year for a family 4 account gold membership is well worth it and really not that much , ive paid more in the past on pc in my years of evercrack and wow.

yea insane, I yet to buy one. Maybe if the price can drop to $150 ? either way I enjoy playing games on the PC, a joystick is harder to handle compare to using mouse/keyboard.

I Agree with you, you have to have some knowledge of what you are doing, and I have made some systems for friends who were amazed the small budget you can build one with ( if you buy used parts, even cheaper). It is not for everyone and I totally understand Why Joe Shmo would buy an xbox for his son lil Billy :p . I was more responding to [H] members, who do know better!.... some here said it their option was 250 for a ps3 for skyrim or 1000 for a pc to play Skyrim. You can play Skyrim on a 80 buck 5770, and it will look better then a PS3. You don't need a grand.

My problem is not with console players at all, and I completely understand why people buy them, but this generation is getting incredibly long in the tooth.

BTW

Let's see. In my household we have PS3, Wii, My gaming Rig, my son's gaming rig, 4 laptops, and we just picked up the 360 with Kinect for 199 for the kids. On top of that we have a PSP and a Nintendo DSi. Why is it either or? I play both. Granted FPS are played on the PC and my 9 year old son plays all his FPS on his PC, but those of you touting cheap gaming PCs are forgetting a few things. Monitor, OS, speakers, keyboard, and mouse. Kids love to play games and all of them play on every single one of the platforms. I too don't get the hate. I used to be the same way, but have learned that I enjoy gaming. Not PC gaming, not console gaming, just gaming. I also play golf on both great and average courses, play basketball in a gym and in the driveway, play softball on a diamond and in a field. Sorry, I don't get it. P.S. I wouldn't touch a gaming PC for less than 500. I hate that. jk :D

One thing to say about this RTS its the reason I will always have a gaming PC and when it comes to everything else, sorry its a toss up on whether I will buy it on a 360 or for PC, for games I really love and want to support like Penny arcades video games I bought them on both, same for mass effect. Otherwise I will demo on a PC and if I like the controls then great if not then 360 controller here I come.

I left the K/M, monitor and speakers out because 90% have them already if they have a computer at all, or just plug it into your HDTV, which is what many of my friends do, but good point on the OS, pretty steep unless you get one off Craigslist. Sometimes when i build for friends, I just use the vista/7 copy from their current POS desktop

I will say that PCs will never replicate the experience of fighting games... I thought about getting a genesis just for fighting games...and sonic.

All you guys saying

"youre forgetting the price of a monitor, mouse, and speakers!"

A decent mouse and keyboard is ~$40 for both.

Don't consoles need a "monitor" and "speakers" as well?

lolgic.

my brother in law plays his 360 on a 10 year old tube tv its his speakers aswell, the whole point is if you care about graphics then build a pc but for the masses they just want to shoot their friends in the head and be able to taunt someone through a mic. Its not which is better its which is more popular. Think the Cool Wall on Top Gear.

I use to love PC gaming...still do but it's a vicious cycle of constantly upgrading, patching, and tweaking. With every new game that comes out in order to play with good performance and quality you have to patch the game, upgrade video drivers, tweak this and that.
It get's fucking old....

I play GOW on a 54in LED HDTV with 5.1 SS and it looks and sounds amazing.
I pop in the disk, party up, and I'm gaming.

I game on both... and lately I have been neglecting my PC for gaming because in most cases, my friends (the people I really care to game with) are buying games on 360. It's easy. Buy game. Insert game. Play game.

The last game I bought on PC was Crysis 2 and I have to say I was extremely disappointed with it.

There is something to be said about sitting on my comfy couch with my 58" plasma and 5.1 setup. Comfortable, easy.

I understand the pros and cons of both sides as I have owned PCs and consoles since I was around 5 years old. Sometimes I'm just lazy and it's easier to get into a game with the people I want to play with on a console.

Having said that... 800k consoles in one day is insane. It doesn't matter how you look at that number, it's huge.

My original NES still works fine.
I'm on my 3rd 360.

This is just one reason why im a PC gamer.

i have all 3

pc - pron, movie encoding, steam, web surfing, forum stalking
xbox 360 - were i play cod with the guys at work.
ps3 - where i watch movies on my big tv

Go xbox more money to spend on gay stuff like kinect,

Prety much every household has a T.V., so thats not really an added expense ;).

Not that I play on a console but we do have one here because my kids prefer to use it over a PC for gaming, trust me I have tried to convert them.

A top of the line gamin computer will set you back closer to 3000, with dual tx 3 b tx 580s, hi end psu 200- 300 a top of the line mobo 300 or so, multi monitors150 to 200 each for 24 inch 1980 x 1280 monitors , so i8ts truue that the hi frame rate really crisp raphics are possible only on a hi end pc, you also pay 10 to 290times as much to play the same ames and have pretty much the same fun factor asa 200 dollar console. I built a 2700 dollar PC, just because I wanted to see what kind of a monster I could create, yes its fast and awesome nut uess what , my PS3 is my game machine of choice., addicted to MAG. The only PC game I play is Everquest, lol another Sony product, goin on 13 years now. Some of you are sounding like snobs withyour PC fan boyism, not everyone can afford to build or buy a hi end PC and, console ames are just as much fun. The new 360s are reliable, so everyone who got one enjoy it.

Only MMORPGs and a few sim games, but all of those are played on servers. It's not every single game involving interraction with other players over a P2P network :p

Thats the worst part, you're not even paying to use a game server, you're paying a fee to connect to Jim Bob's 50k up DSL connection.

Sorry man, but this hurt my head.... A lot.

I don't even know how to respond

You guys, comparing consoles to PC is like comparing apples to oranges, the only similarity is that they're both fruits, or that they both play games. Techies who like to fool around with settings have no business criticizing the average gamer. They're designed to cater to completely different crowds. To each his own, enjoy what you've got.

It still amazes me how many people are willing to pay top dollar for such old technology (Not including Kinect of course).

They are like $199 and you can play games on your couch.

Hardly top dollar. I spent that much on amBX lights for my PC a couple months ago.

The age of a product or it's technology is irrelevant. What's important is the utility or enjoyment a customer gets and clearly, the XBox360 is offering people something want more than they want to hold on to their $200.
