Project Aqua

Filtration for the fish tank will be a good idea so you dont get chunks of food and shit building up. Reinforcing the bottom with a metal base or other rigid material might be a good thing to do as well.

Looking good!

Is the pump submerged as well? Don't see it in the newest pics.

Hope everything works out with the mineral oil leak testing!

nice its coming together great keep it up!!! :D

Thanks, will do. Cheers.

I am still considering making some sort of housing for the tank, there is a lot of weight involved with all of this. It would be a great idea which is will being considered.

Thanks. The pump will be on the out side of the tank. I have it temporarily mounted on the back in the pictures below.

Update #10
Leek Test 2! The computer side.

I started this leek test last night and so far so good. Hope it stays that way. Here are some pictures of my Frankenstein creation. Enjoy!

The pump is my brothers, hes letting me use it. I didn't think it would work very well but I was surprised how strong it pumped the water. There was one heck of a current in there!

looks great cant wait to see the fish!

Thanks me either!

It has been a week since I started this last leak test and so far nothing has escaped except for evaporated water. There are a few small things I would like to do yet before I submerge my hardware. The main thing I am waiting on now is to buy a 1155 CPU

woot! you can take a bath and play some BF3 at the same time..

Cant wait to see what the finished project looks like!

hey where do you live? i live in hacienda heights.

I am also thinking of creating a mineral oil cpu but more similiar to andrew mollmans version.

you got the cold oil flowing out the top, wouldnt it be better to be suctioning off the top and dumping at the bottom? heat still rises...

Wouldn't he still want to pull oil off the bottom? Oil at the bottom being cooler than the oil at the top.

Anyway, awesome build. Cant wait to see how this turns out.

will be watching this one :-P

Thanks :D

this is going to be sick

I hope so!

Yeah, he really inspired me to try it. His is like history. But I live in Iowa.

I was going to do that at first, but I decided to have it push out the top because it will create a better flow around the CPU, the hottest spot. I don't think the oil will even get hot enough in the tank to make a huge difference with the 2 radiators.

Here is a small teaser you all deserve! Still working on this. I had a small leak coming from the lower 90 degree barb. I had since taken the mineral oil out and prepared for fixing. I need to install the lights, rocks, water, fish, and bubbler yet.

Wow, I have always wanted to do something like this. Can't wait to see it finished!

Looks nice - not sure if I would want to do it... Think I will stick to plain water - but it is an interesting idea -(just seems a bit messy when upgrading, etc)

looks great need to clean up the cables tho. Kinda looks messy

Yeah, there is a lot of cables and not a lot of room. Lots to do in that aspect yet.

I didn't realize you are using mineral oil. Have you seen the Mineral Oil Pc thread?

It's a mess and I can't imagine working through all of the issues it causes. Good luck!

Yeah, hes the one that really inspired me to do this. I give that guy props, I've gotten nothing but troubles. Its such a pain. But once everything is set, I think it will be worth it.

You should! Its very fun, but messy. I had to empty the tank a day after I filled it :( I had a leak on my lower 90 degree elbow. That was messy.

Yeah it is very messy. A lot worse than I thought. But it is going to look sweet as an HTPC sitting under my TV.

Sorry for all the delays in this project. I haven't had much time to tinker with it. I should be able to pick it back up here soon. I will get back to it very soon :)

Alright guys, I am very sorry but I lost interest in this project a long time ago but recently had the urge to tinker with it. My main problem was that the 90 degree plastic barbed elbows were leaking. I need to use copper or brass fittings. Can someone find ones that have long thread so they can go all the way through the side wall?

This would work perfect but its not a 90 degree.....

Here's some pix before I took all the components out.

You should look at mcmaster, they have just about any piece of hardware you could ever want.

http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-barbed-hose-to-pipe-fittings/=j950tc

There is a whole assortment of 90 degree fittings there (this is just the brass fittings, they have all sorts of different pipe to hose fittings, search their catalog).

I am guessing you are using a 1/4" NPTF currently, not sure on the hose size (sorry skimmed pictures).

http://www.mcmaster.com/#53525K19 <-- 1/4" NPTF for 1/2" ID

Thanks for the link, I just ordered 2 "Brass Barbed Elbow 90 Deg Elbow For 1/2 Hose Id X 1/4 nptf Male Pipe"
I think that's what I need. Anyone know how much shipping usually is from them? They don't tell you they just bill you

Edit: Very fast reply from them estimated $5 shipping charge. Works for me :D
