Does anyone know about riplock for this drive? Or if you can flash it to a "different" firmware that does have it? Doesn't seem like it.

I haven't been able to find a way to disable riplock on it. I used this for a build a while back and tried to disable it but couldn't find a way. I am tempted to by a Lite On one instead, no riplock on those.

This makes me very glad I bought a Lite On then! I haven't gotten it yet.

What is riplock anyway? I have a Liteon ihbs212, does that not have riplock? Also I don't know if I trust LG burners at all...I had a LG CH10LS20 (UH10LS20?) combo drive (didn't support BD write, only read), but that drive stopped recognizing almost all media in the drive after only about a month, after it warmed up, and I only wrote two DVD's and one CD with the drive... I've never seen a drive fail like that before....

None of my liteon drives ever did that...only problem I ever had was a 1693s CD writing laser eventually failing (it could read cd's but not that well) after years of usage while the other 1693s has been going on strong, and my 166s readers with their old safedisc backup compatibility have been bulletproof.
