Fucking bullshit. I was just in a rush round where I armed 2 of the mcoms for the attacking team, and the admin manually balanced me to the other team, forcing me to take a loss.

That sucks if it's near the end, but honestly this game NEEDS auto-balance at the start of a round. I'm fucking sick of having like 4-5 more players on one team and no one doing anything about it because they want easy points/wins. Fuck that.

Just got done playing an infantry only server for about 2 hours and lol at the high level scrubs with IRNV. I kid you not when I say about 95% of the non-recon players were using it. I guess Skyrim needs to pull me away for another couple of weeks until these twats get their nerf. :p

Exactly my feeling on it. Your infantry score goes to shit if you try to not use the IRNV because everyone else is so you are automatically at a disadvantage from the start. After having used other sights and the IRNV I can easily say that there is literally no disadvantage to using the IRNV. Unless you consider it only being a 1x sight a disadvantage, but it's easy enough to get long-range kills regardless when everyone lights up like a Christmas tree.
 
I'm not sure what I did to get rid of it, tbh. Running with everything @ Ultra @ 1920x1080, no MSAA.

Yeah for me its definitely the terrain quality. If I keep it at medium I can turn everything else up. I'll keep everything at high I think. Great FPS with good visuals.

Wonder if it's an ATI driver thing. Using the latest betas. 11.11b I think. Something like that.
 
If there is one jet and 2 guys decide to go after him I think they should be able to take him down. Now keep in mind they gave up any useful rockets to get him and will be wasting time taking him down. They cant do anything about infantry or tanks with those rockets. No one in the game even wants to use the stingers because they are so useless and it just distracts players from the mission. So the jet fighter wins no matter what. If enough of you get stingers and harass him, then he distracted 2 or more good players. If everyone gives up because you will never take him down then he just destroys whatever he wants without being stopped. The same thing can be said for choppers except the choppers need to use multiple players to man guns and heal the thing.

You have to elaborate on this. In what sense do you want 2 guys to be able to take down a jet? 2 guys can already take down a jet in some cases. How much of an effective area do you want them to have for instance? Even a mobile AA cannot reliably take out a jet (bad pilots not counting) attacking the next flag over.

The only way for jets to "destroy everything" currently (not counting extreme skill examples) is to do slow passes with multiple rocket pod barrages or cannon bursts. This makes the jet a very easy target for other jets. This is also what the stingers (among other ground counters) are supposed to prevent. The fast jet passes that you see most people who can survive in the air doing also prevents them from effectively attacking the ground.

If you give stingers the ability to actively hunt jets and hard counter them, then jets are going to be useless. I don't see how you can argue otherwise considering how many stingers can be fielded and the relative ease of use compared to a jet. This problem would be even more compounded on maps like Canals and Rush maps.

An alternative would be to give stingers some limited ground use. Adjust stingers so it can target ground vehicles if laser designated (the javelin can attack air, so not a stretch), but with reduced damage compared to javelins/rpgs.

Are you actually encountering situations in game where you feel the jets are too effective and that you feel helpless against them on the ground (not counting team stacked games)? Personally I don't equip the stingers because I've honestly never been in a game where the jets have been so effective at attacking the ground to the point I feel like needing to counter them. Usually your own sides jets and mobile AA is an effective enough deterrent to prevent them from having free reign.

This. It is getting out of control with the whole "if you can' beat them, join them" lameness of the IRNV. Soon they should rename the game IRNVfield 3.

I cant believe how much better the game is with a dedicated soundcard and good headphones, just wow.

It would be even better if you could hear super silent enemies.
 
My basic idea is that 1 good player should be able to take out another good player about half the time. If 2 good players cannot take out a jet for the whole map you got a balance problem. Alot of things work ok like that. 2 good guys with rockets can put down a tank. If he has a guy healing and gunning then it becomes more of a mixed bag. But with air craft we are getting a very different story where equal numbers of good players in the air craft are rarely going down to an equal number of good players trying to take them out. If you are going to do that then at least you need to give both teams in all game modes equal access to such equipment. Honestly stingers are freaking useless with a good helicopter just shoot your gun at it and hope to hit a gunner.

I would be fine with your suggestion to give stingers ground use. I would like the same for the jav, they should have a strait fire mode, maybe it does less damage or something but seriously no one uses those things much because it's simply too niche and too ineffective. Even if you can take tanks out people just come back in air craft.


And ya I have been in a couple servers where a good jet pilot was just making it so none of our tanks and most of our jeeps could not get up to the objectives. We tried alot of things and could never stop him. Honestly maybe it was my fault maybe I am not good with stingers but the reason is because every time I trie them I get nothing. And I see other people are seeing a similar pattern.

I just use AEK-971 with iron sights :eek: they are the best. IRNV sucks compared to it :D
 
Still using my PP2000 with standard iron sights and I do just fine ;)

It's gotten to the point that when going head to head with the heli. Given the choice between the stinger and the m60, i pick the m60. The stinger is only good when you're blindsiding him, if he knows where you are, good luck getting a shot in.
 
I have to disagree with the IRNV haters saying if you dont use it your KDR goes to shit. I've used the IRNV for probably a total of 10-20 minutes out of the 80+ hours ive played the game and my KDR is pretty well tied to the quality of players on the server. I spent a few rounds on a 1000 ticket metro server yesterday and held my own really well, actually improved my KDR quite a bit....used the pump shotty in there as well.

Two players can easily shoot down a jet if coordinated properly and in the right location. Ive been on servers where just a couple players with stingers kept me from really doing anything productive other than flying in circles dodging missiles. Also, even the best pilot is not gonna dodge every missile...you'll eventually smack him, especially if he doesnt know where you are firing at him from.
 
I'm still going to continue using the IRNV. Came late to the game and spent the first 10-15 hours getting my head kicked in by people using all the top-tier unlocks, and it's going to get tweaked soon enough anyway. So while everyone and their dog is using it I'm happy to continue to do so when necessity dictates.

It's mainly because there aren't any other decent sights. The ACOG/PSO-1 are disgusting to use what with how they screw with the weapon climb, and the PSO-1 is especially horrible with the big rubberised eye cup taking up 90% of the screen. Happy to switch between the reflex/eotech/irons/IRNV depending on the map. People complaining about it are justified, but I think they're putting too much emphasis on it. It's not a magic bullet - if you're using the IRNV as an excuse for your deaths I think what's more likely to blame is your spatial awareness.
 
Got a chance to play for the first time last night. Everything feels much quicker-paced than BFBC2 did, but maybe that's because I was on Metro.

Sucks starting out at level 1 with no unlocks when everyone else has scopes and whatnot, but I healed and revived like a madman and wound up with 0.77 KD after playing through 2 conquests, not bad considering I started 0-7.:p
 
Well I'm finally getting decent at sniping. Go the SV98 with 12x scope and laser. No straight pull bolt yet. I find I'm much better at "front line" sniping, opposed to sitting 1000 meters away. Having a lot of luck protecting bases and helping clear them for guys to cap. Also doing a lot of counter sniping and getting a lot of savior pins. And also having a lot of luck assaulting with a silenced pistol. Killed 5 guys in about 60 seconds last night and they never did find me, lol.

Actually getting more kills than I was getting with the M249 + IRNV. And having a lot of fun more importantly.

That's great and all but the IRNV still allows people to see through cover like bushes. Hiding is almost pointless at times because if any part of you slightly pokes out from behind cover you are lit up like a fucking christmas tree. I don't use it because I know it's going to be nerfed but right now almost all of my deaths are from people using GUN / IRNV / FOREGRIP / SUPPRESSOR.

I also think they should remove the foregrip from the LMGs and make them bipod only, but that's just me.

once you unlock the M98B sniping becomes much more intuitive. it feels a lot like the M24 in BC2, as far as the overall 'feel' of the rifle goes.

LOL, was I in the server with you when this happened, I was also thinking man that must suck to get moved to the losing team and it wasn't like you were last person to join either.

Was frustrating for me last night, I was trying to work on the 240/m60, man those guns have crazy recoil before you get the forgrip unlocked. I think I'll stick with AS VAL in support.

I felt like a dirty player last night... I was so fed up with using these crappy guns I had to switch over to USAS-12/Frag, lol in 2 minutes racked up 15 kills and took 1st from ya lol. The gun is so easy to dominate with, but very fun to use.
 
They should release new maps every month, I start to be bored. I don't mind to pay extra $$ for it. Aside Karkand I have no interest in the new one we gone have

I say just port EVERY BF2 map over, including all the maps from the expansions as DLC packs and everyone will be satisfied. No need to be creative here at all. Same layout different engine just give us the fucking maps.

Imagine if we had access to an SDK? Some very talented people would've done this already and I'm sure they would recreate Strike At Karkand 100% verbatim and it would be played more than DICE's Return to Karkand version. Only trouble is it wouldn't be a ranked server anymore.

I'm pretty sure these worthless monkey clowns probably fucked up/butchered the Return to Karkand map pack for the benefit of the consoles though, it's all but guaranteed. I will not be convinced otherwise until I can witness it myself. Why do they insist on changing things that aren't broken, since they end up fucking it up. Coulda, shoulda, woulda left squads the same way as bf2, left commanders, left voice coms and no one would've complained.

eh the BC2 maps are still pretty fresh in my mind and i put 500+ hours into that game, so i can do without them. the BF2 maps would be great though since it's been so long since i've played them. Dalian Plant please! i imagine the manpower it would take to port all those maps over would be enormous. would be nice if they released the tools needed for the community to do it, but you can't blame them for not giving up that cash cow. or at least i personally can't blame them, it is a business after all.
 
Valpairiso (sp?) was my favorite BC2 map by far. Also, what happened to every map having a day/night version? Caspian border in the dark would be freakin' awesome, IMO.

Honestly I would be happy if they did nothing but remake all the BF2 maps. I really wanted to see some Kubra Dam and Jalalabad.

I agree - I think the foregrip on LMGs is a bigger balance problem than the IRNV. You shouldn't be able to hip-fire an M249 like an M16.

There were NO bad maps AT ALL in BF2. Everything seems wrong in BF3, I don't enjoy any of the new maps like I did in BF2 :(.

Such a shame that BF3 is broken the way it is now.

On a different note I was pissed at dice for refusing to fix/balance BC2 while my clan and I played that because I could guarantee that they were all focused on BF3. Why continue to upgrade a game for people that have already paid for it instead of focusing on making the sequel since you're already dumping all that marketing money into it. Amirite? ;)

I do remember it took them FOREVER to fix BF2 but the game was polished when they were done. BC2 just went of on another tangent for the series and I think it was the wrong direction. BF3 followed right behind. I've played EVERY battlefield since 1942 (Save the Original Battlefield:Bad Console) and I really think the 2 latest have lost their roots.

That's what I use. Some of the guns have great iron sights.

Quit using bushes as cover then.
Cover=can't shoot through it.
Concealment =CAN shoot through it.
Use cover instead of concealment.
It's not that difficult.
Instead of hiding behind a bush, hide behind a rock or a concrete wall.
When you want to move from behind your COVER, pop smoke first.
Use that thing on your shouders as something other than a target for the other guy.

I was balanced after the third set of M-Coms on Seine Crossing. And as Shiz said, I was far from the last person to join. It seemed like the admin balanced me just because I was doing well, I had like 1900 points and was something like 9-0 before he balanced me. From what I remember, the teams were only off by 1 or 2 players, so it wasn't a glaring issue of 12v5 or whatever it is you see on servers without auto-balance.
 
BTW, whoever in this thread recommended the Killer Old Farts server, thank you! I've been playing there pretty much exclusively, the server is great.
 
What is with the homing jets? This guy was flying around in a jet all match with 20:1 last time I bothered to look at him. (I got majorly pissed and stopped looking at the scoreboard altogether.) I'd fire up a jet or heli, get about 3 seconds in the air, and then 3 audible bullet hits later I'm exploderized. I mean holy bananaphones people, that's either some badass flying or some serious salami insertion. Something. Ugh.
 
pretty sure theyll announce another mappack soon after B2K, but this time itll be $15 or whatever for all the limited edition owners
