If you value your freedom, avoid posting on any website with links to Thailand and its monarchy. Even clicking on the Like link on Facebook could net you 3-15 years in prison under Thailand’s Computer Crimes Act. It appears Thailand is just a wee bit touchy when it comes to dissin’ Hiz Royal Highness. :D

Authorities in Thailand have asked Facebook to delete more than 10,000 pages of content as computer technicians in Bangkok scour the internet for royal insults.

I wonder what would haven if you didn't live in Thailand and setup a page to dis this guy. Are they gonna call the FBI or interpol lol.

Haha, no way in hell they could or would enforce in the US. I bet even the authorities here when contacted would be like, "Lol?"

Ummm

Regardless of the merits of this, this is not an isolated incident, simply the first response google shot out at me.

True, some Doctors are now making you sign a waiver before you are treated so that YOUR freedom of speech will not result in a negative review online if you receive poor or lacking treatment. Its Happening in the US and needs to be stopped DOA.

Wasn't there some American guy jailed in Thailand because in a book he wrote he made some very slight negative comment about their King? Fuck Thailand.

The country has propagandized the crap out of their king.

Thai people feel that he's the most benevolent person that ever lived, likely because not feeling that way can carry harsh punishments.

I have a Thai relative who lives in the U.S. now, and we used to poke fun at the king just to mess with her. She got really upset about it, like you would if someone insulted your mom, so we quit. It's such a weird concept though. I can't think of a single person outside my family that I would take deep offense to someone criticizing.

I have not heard of this guy before today but now I just have this overwhelming urge to dis him ... royally:rolleyes:

Wow think of it that same act was here in the US!

Well, if that Internet censorship bill gets approved and passed, what's to say the US will not take it further and censor anything Americans say badly of our government and its leaders?

It's just another step towards a fully Democratic Republic Oligarchy if that gets passed, just like with SOPA. My US government professor back in college taught us that the current US government is a Democratic Republic. Leaders are chosen by its people (Democracy) and its leaders represent us in law-, policy-, and decision-making. We are probably in an oligarchy, ruled by the wealthy and elite, as we speak and maybe a Coporatacracy as well.

Just imagine all the Youtube videos, forum posts, blog posts, twitter posts, Facebook posts, and websites protesting and name-calling the US government on how poorly they're running the country get shut down, deleted, censored and removed.

It makes you worry that the United States will be no different than China or Thailand in a few more years or decades. It's both human nature and human history to have a government impose absolute control over its people without reprieve and with limited freedom. The US is going to be no different if history is allowed to repeat itself.

I wonder if our Founding Fathers of this country are crying in their laps or rolling in their graves over our current government:
"My goodness, look at how far we have strayed and how far we have failed."

I was censored yesterday right here on HardOCP for making negative threads about a certain game publisher. FREEDOM!!! :)

"In that case, the Canadian/US firm that hosted the site handed Chai's identity over to the Thai government without question"

Moral of the story is: Never trust any website with your info. Fucking douchebags.

I heard that the king of thailand likes rubarb stuffed in his nose while he eats sausages. Now the [H] will get teh thailand ban! (not I, mainly because I outrank his puny ass and because I heard it from someone else [it was MajorDomo ]).

You can sell and buy children in the sex slave without recourse but damnit, don't make fun of the king.

The way how that lèse majesté came into being for Thailand is ultimately due to their parliamentary system being undermined time after time as one military junta after another pops up and such, leaving only the Thai king as the one stable public figure and all... technically the Thai king is symbolic and has little political power, but the fickle nature of Thai diet, the wealth and prestige of the monarchy coupled together and a military that wants to look legitimate leads to deification for the Thai monarchy.

Another thing too... Thai monarchy does charity work, so the king has actual cred going for him...
