Klipsch Promedia 2.1 Speakers - $94.99 + FS at Best Buy

I rarely buy from BB so spending an extra $5 to save $10 on an unlikely future purchase doesn't benefit me.
I may buy them though, looks like a good deal.

Those look pretty decent. I am considering getting a pair of M-Audio AV30's but these look really good for $15 more at Best Buy.
I just need stereo audio in my bedroom for my old 42" plasma.

I need to switch to speakers myself, so I was looking at these:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audio/m-audio-studiophile-bx5a-deluxe-active-monitors

I don't need a subwoofer because I can put on my headphones for thumping bass.

Those are very nice monitors. My brother bought a set earlier this year for his PC and I was very impressed with the sound quality.

We bought my father the AV40's which are more consumer orientated using RCA and 3.5mm jacks for inputs, and they sound very impressive as well and are currently only $121 at Amazon. For $30 more I would get the Bx5a's though. Bx5a's have been selling for $200+ all year long, so $150 is a very good price (They were on sale for $140 recently).

I've had a set of these since 2001 and they are still the best 2.1 computer speakers IMO. Back then I paid $180, so at this price I'm actually considering a second set for my downstairs workroom.

+1

Best set of speakers I've ever owned. Period. Still look/sound new.

Best,

Liquid Cool

supposedly you can get 10% by using shopdiscover (if you have a discover card).

only thing that worries me about these are the somewhat questionable build quality. something about the sub burning out or something.

You are going to get amps burning out on any computer speaker set up, but these speakers have been made since 2002 and are still regarded as one of the best 2.1 computer speaker setups you can get. You get a one year warranty as well covering craftsmanship and materials. I guess what I'm saying is you can't expect them to be bullet proof, but from a sound quality point of view these are very good for the market that they are in. I personally wouldn't worry about the amp since you have the 1 year warranty and I'm sure if you read customer reviews for other speaker setups you'd also find unsatisfied people who have had amps die on them. It is just a risk you have to take and in the computer audio market they don't use the highest quality amps to keep prices reasonable.

[e]reading back over this I don't want to seem like I am urging you to buy these now. I just want to get past the point that failing amps will happen fairly randomly amongst all pc speakers due to their standards. I think the best thing is to do some research on how well of a job Klipsch does at replacing defective units.

The amp stays on even though the power is turned off, and continues to generate heat. You'll have to unplug it or have a power strip that shuts off plugs when your PC is turned off.
I have a power strip that turns everything off when my PC shuts down. This will prolong the life of the amp. The same happens with the AV40s amp.

I have AV40s and I don't notice the amp generating any heat when I turn them off with the switch in the back. Are you sure that switch doesn't break the circuit to the amp?

No, those sockets are powered down when the main socket is idle.
Only the main socket is powered when idle. If your read reviews of the AV40s, short and long term use, the amps burning out on them also.
Your experience is singular.

I bought a set off cowboom.com for $84 which is BB refurb/return site. I have not had any problems in the 2+ years I have had mine.

hah well i actually bought them before i posted that :p
but if just unplugging will prolong them, that won't be too difficult :D

I've had a set of these since like 2001. I've never had an amp issue on mine, but I've had to replace the preamp on them once. The connection in the preamp that connects to the power knob gets loose and you get increasingly loud crackles and pops when using the volume knob. Not a big deal, since buying a new preamp every ~6 years for these awesome speakers is worth it.

Thanks OP, I was just about to Return my Altec Lansing Octane 7's because of how muddled they sounded. These are a ridiculous upgrade for 30 bucks more, only had them for maybe 30 minutes and the difference is staggering.

You guys convinced me to bite. I have had my sound card out of my system ever since I did my new build months ago and been using onboard with crappy speakers. Decided to throw sound card back in (MUCH better than onboard) and order this.

Mine have performed flawlessly for at least 10 years now. Incredible speakers for the money.

Had a $55 RZ Cert. that I used.. Total was $43 and some change! Thanks :D

My 5.1 set is around 7 years old. Amazingly great.

I've had mine for a couple of years, amazing for the price/size. I remember BB running them on sale for like $70 (while I was working there) and some guy coming in and buying like 4 sets of these.

I've owned these for 5 years now myself. Only issue I ever had was the volume control module dying on me. That was an easy replacement with a sub $20 part at the time.

I have to keep the subwoofer bass to a minimum or else it feels like the ground beneath me is having a seizure.

I've had mine for probably about 7 years without any problems and have no plan to replace they anytime soon. They are a great set of speakers with more than enough ooomph

I've been rocking these guys for a couple years now after a Logitech 2.1 set died on me. Absolutely love em.

What I really like about these guys is that they have some horsepower, and when you use that horsepower they don't distort massively like some other options around this price point.

I been using mine for about 2 years, I love them.

I just got a set for another build!

Great speakers, great deal!

I purchased mine from BB @ 3 yrs ago for 90.00 but this is the best price I've seen since then.

I always turn mine off with the switch on the amp to eliminate the powered idle mode.

Ive had a set for the last 6 months and love them. I bought from BB when they had them at $110 with in-store pickup and I thought that was a deal!

This is a great price, good speakers, I may go get a second set for my work PC.

if you have a pair of z-2300 i think the consensus is that it is not worth the $100 to 'upgrade'. both are pretty equal, but some aspects of both are either better or weaker versus each other.

I bought a 2.1 set used off of anandtech about 2 years ago, and I have had to replace the left and right channel fuses twice ($0.50 fix) It suffers from bulging caps but still has great sound quality.

Hmm, for a dead site like Best Buy's - "4.7 of 5 (324 reviews) ".... Well, there you go... That's pretty damn good. I have personally wanted these speakers for a while... and I really hate that I'll be missing this deal.

How are these speakers compared to the Logitech Z-2300s?

I personally don't think they will impress me more physically then my Z-2300 setup I already have... Because, I now prefer the little volume accessory unit. I like plugging my head phones into it. The system makes for a great headphone booster/amp... trust me....

But, I know at one point ill have another room with another computer and ill be wanting another 2.1 setup, and I'll be definitely looking for a deal on these...
