Dell U2312HM

I'm about to buy an IPS monitor and unfortunately my old computer can only support a vga as an input, I'm thinking of building a new desktop set up but until then I will use the monitor on my old desktop

will the quality be really bad?

Someone at the office had this monitor hooked up via VGA for a while. It didnt look horrible or anything.

I have more on order. Should be in on Monday. Feel free to send a pm to remind me and I will let you know what revision is received.

I got mine this week, no buzzing or yellow glow issues etc.
Rev a01, manufacture date aug 2011, I will get another one sometime soon.

On sale from Dell Home for $229 using coupon code 9RKP5R7?4W7P1K for $90 off.

I got this monitor a few days ago and I don't understand how people are saying it's one of the best monitors available

In my opinion any TN panel with no ag coating will beat this monitor

if you try to read some text on a white screen you will see what I mean, its dirty look is distracting and disgusting at the same time

I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy this monitor

I mean come on, why so much ag coating? Actually WHY did they put the ag coating in the first place?

I am considering these monitors, but the comment about the heavy AG coating is a bit scary, i do work a lot with documents, webpages etc so if looking at text is distracting/disgusting then i need to stay away from this monitor... anyone else can comment on this ? is txg123 exaggerating ?

My experience has been that it has not been an issue that has bothered me. The only times which I have been bothered by it has been when someone on these forums have brought it up.

For what I have been using my monitors, the following have been issues for me:

Viewing angles; slouching or shifting position in my seat causing colour changes and contrast differences has been the #1 noticeable thing about monitors
Colour issues; when using monitors with different colour gamuts, i notice differences in colours that are supposed to be the same
Reflections; the glossy TN I use often bothers me if I am using CAD (I use black backgrounds) or when I'm surfing on a site with dark colours (like this forum)
AG; someone here brings it up, and I notice it.

For example, when using my IPS laptop (x220) that has a "light" AG coating alongside my U2312hm (slightly heavier AG), the thing that bothers me the most about the panels are that the reds of my X220 laptop are slightly orange as compared to the U2312hm. The AG difference between the two never comes to mind, unless someone brings it up.

well personally I've been using glossy panels for many years and now I have this screen and I find it difficult to adjust

is this anti glare thingy being used like everywhere? last time I bought a monitor was like 10 years ago so I'm kind of left behing

I'm not sure guys, I will be using this for some days and hope I will start liking it

although I have to tell the colors are just amazing I opened my mouth when I first turned the monitor up... it's just unbelievable how poor the color quality is on my TN monitor...

but the ag coating.. I'm not sure... it makes things bad..

Hi,
I found that Dell uses LG LM230WF3-SLB1/LM230WF3(SL)(B1) Panel
LG E2370V-BF uses LG LM230WF3

Are they using the same panel? does anyone know what the suffix SLB1/(SL)(B1) means?

Thanks.

please disregard that post

I just never used these kind of monitors and I'm now starting to get used to them

it's not that bad

you have to adjust the brightness and contrast levels and you will be fine, I was using it at factory settings...

Between Dell U2312HM and Asus ML239H which gives better gaming performance?
From what I read on tftcentral Asus has bigger lag but less motion blur.
The Dells buzzing noise is a deal breaker for me.

I don't have any problem with the buzzing and my brightness is at 20

I don't think you'll have a problem either

yeah, if I put the brigthness at 100 I won't be able to handle such an amount of light for more than a few seconds lol :p

TFT Central does not measure input lag properly. Both monitors have <2ms of input lag.

Asus Input Lag
Dell Input Lag

If you can't get the Asus from a place with a hassle free exchange/return policy pay the extra for the Dell since the quality control is sorely lacking. Same QC issues apply to the Dell (all IPS panels are made by LG).

thanks for the answer.
Actually here Asus is a little more expensive than Dell.
What worries me about Dell is the buzzing noise, it seems all have it. (I just come from a bad experience with PSU coil noise)

my cyber monday deal arrived today, upgrade from a 19" 5:4 panel and it's wiiiide :) No buzzing from 10-100 brightness. I'm at 10 brightness, 60 contrast and "text" mode. Multiple word documents will be easier than on two separate monitors. Now we'll see if I need a new video card to drive Skyrim on it.

Making the same move from 19" 5:4. Mine should be here tomorrow. Will report on if it buzzes or not below 100. You liking the change from 5:4 to 16:9?

Just got my three in from Black Friday.

The first of them seems perfect, no issues that I can tell at all.
The second had a very loud obvious buzz at 98 brightness and below, will be exchanging this, didn't even bother to test for pixels or anything else.
The third has a very low buzzing at 98 brightness and below, almost unnoticeable if the PC fan is going. Don't know if I'll bother to replace it...

Probably going to call support and request two exchanges, then send back the worst two of the four. Alas, Dell lottery.

I don't have any calibration equipment, but using an RGB of ~95, 90, 100 looks good to me so far.

My panel ordered on BF came in today. Rev A01. The screen has a huge purple blotch in the center of the screen which is really noticeable on black backgrounds but doesn't show up otherwise. I have no idea what it is, but I called in for a replacement. The rest of the panel is great however. There is very minimal bleeding around the edges and good color. I hope nothing is wrong with my replacement. I don't really like going through the exchange process more than once.

Happy with it. Gaming is nice, and fitting two word documents side by side with search field, style pane, and an easy to read font size on both of them is excellent.

The AG coating might be slightly heavier than my other monitors. I have two Dell 17" entry level LCDs here at work and the viewsonic VX922 at home. I can see it bothering some people, but I prefer that to glare.

I do have them all, it's been a pain in the ass going through the Dell tech support to get new ones on the way. Got redirected like 7 times between customer service and tech support. All of mine are Rev A01, manufacturing date Aug 2011.

I requested two replacements, that way if only one of the replacements is good I can just replace the one I'm hearing a really loud buzz from. If they're both great, I'll just replace both of them. But knowing the panel lottery, it's just as likely I'll get another bad one, so no harm in getting doubling my chances for a good replacement for the one I actually have an issue with.

Rev A01. Mfg Date: August 2011
No dead pixel, very very mild BLB in upper right. Screen quality very acceptable, AG coating is there but does not bother me at all. Only one complaint, the darn buzzing. Anything below 99 brightness buzzes. It is not loud buzzing, but the high pitch of it could be a deal breaker. Other than that, it is a nice monitor. Played some Counterstrike source and it was awesome.

Really liking this monitor. No back light bleed, no dead pixels, back light looks very even, surprisingly unobtrusive IPS glow and good response time. There is a very faint buzz, but I have to put my ear right on top of the monitor to even hear it. I DO notice some yellow tint around some of the edges, but it's very, very faint and only really visible against a bright/light background. Not bad enough for me to send back. AG coating looks about on par with my HP ZR22w. Noticeable, but I'm already used to it.

Rev A01 - Aug 2011

Dell gets a thumbs up. :D

Do you think I should pick one of these up then sell my u2311h. I want to get a second monitor but u2311h's are rare and more expensive than the newer model.

Following up on my above. Got my two replacements, also manufacturing date August 2011, Rev A01, looks like brand new, not refurbished. They sent it out overnight shipping when they finally got around to approving the exchange so that's nice at least. So here's the end results of the 5 monitors I've gotten so far:

1 - Perfect, no issues at all.
2 - Very loud buzz under 99 brightness. Unusable.
3 - Very low buzz under 99 brightness. Noticable, but not awful.
4 - Also perfect.
5 - Very low buzz under 99 brightness, even lower than #3. Barely noticable.

Bonus shot of all of them haha.

I think I will end up just keeping 1, 4, and 5 and sending the two back. I could probably try another one to see if I can completely eliminate the buzz, but judging from the other ones I'd be just as likely to get one back that buzzes worse, so I don't know.

I got an A01 replacement for my buzzing A00 screen, it's silent now but has absolutely horrible backlight bleed all over the screen. At calibrated 20% there's still a clearly visible hand-sized blob on the bottom left corner. Does dell accept exchanges from lightbleed since they sent one with lightbleed for me? I really cant use this for any dark games. The A00 ones I had were perfect and had a good uniform feeling even in dark scenes.

I just received mine today. Only been using it for about an hour, so these are really early impressions.

Panel details:
Revision: A02
Manufacturing Date: September 2011.

No buzz on any brightness level. No tinting of any kind that I notice (my last dell monitor had purple tint). Backlight bleed is minimal.

The only real defect I see so far is a dead pixel near the bottom of the screen which I wouldn't bother doing an exchange for since I'll hardly notice it (not to mention every monitor i've ever owned seems to get at least 1).

i got one with the same specs last week and it is flawless. try hooking up to displayport to your video card if you can the quality seems slightly better. I think its because it bypasses a controller on the monitor

I'm using 2212's but it might be relevant anyway.
