Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

Surround is now working properly for me with icons and all. Still seem to get low GPU usage once in a while though however game play seems smoother.
 
First run after patch, i got the black screen. None afterwards so far tho.

You're lucky if you don't get it. I'm another that does. The first time I played and it happened I seriously thought someone had one of those police issue less-than-lethal green laser attachments.
 
I hope these people learn to join squads soon. I was in a game where 22 of the 32 players on my team were not even in squads and we were getting rolled.
 
Big downer on the SCAR. lower damage, huge recoil, low ammo...why not make it shoot marshmallows?
 
Ya, they nurfed it's damage and range. I guess having low ammo count, high recoil and low rate of fire didn't balance it out? Now there is zero reason to use it as they want everything at 5.56 damage.

How do I install this friggin update? I go to check for updates and it says my game is updated, but I go to play and it says i need to update my friggin game. When I click on the battlelog update button it takes me to the origin store? WTF!

* nevermind it looks like REPAIR INSTALLATION did the trick, yea nice :rolleyes:
 
I think they might have tweaked some volumetric effects as the smoke looks a little different to my eyes. More polished. I could be imagining it though.

as far as i know the update was server-side.
 
the download start when you open Origin and select BF3, mine start without ask anything, but once started it have a cancel option
 
I don't get it. Attack chopper gunner weapon did NOT need a buff. Previously, you needed somewhat of a skill to kills with it. It was actually satisfying working with your pilot and going on a strafing run and getting 3-4 kills because there was a group below you who made a mistake of bunching up together.

On average it took me about 2 scrambling runs to get a kill on an infantry target at full health if the pilot was scrambling and dodging and 1 if I was on a head on strafing run, with the splash damage increase I'm gonna be disappointed if it just takes a couple of rounds to kill. Takes the fun and skill out of it.

I haven't played yet post-patch but I really hope any noobs can't just hop in and go on killing sprees which IMO is not the way it should be. On a sidenote, sometimes I wish servers had minimum rank requirements for vehicle use just like in Arma. Nothing worse than hopping into a chopper and then flying straight into the ground 2 seconds later.

Anti Air rockets should not have been nerfed. While they were effective against choppers, I didn't find them effective against planes. I'm a horrible pilot and I was successfully evading them for the most part. Why buff the air assets AND at the same time nerf the anti AA?!? Where's the thought process behind that? Makes no fucking sense at all.

The only thing that needed a buff for aircraft was the machine gun on the jets against infantry.

They should unlock the helicopter only to those who have complete the "Fire from the sky" co-op mission as pilot and make a mission to learn to fly jets too.
 
anyone know how to turn off vibration for the xbox controller on the pc version? i couldn't find an option.

I haven't had any issues with HT pre or post patch, played about 2 hours with the patch today.

Only issue was actually getting it to install, had to reboot to get Origin to download the patch.

I noticed that as soon as I started playing, my controller was sitting on top of my case and started buzzing at me, must have added that with the patch but it would be nice to turn off.

LOL When I first played after patching, mine rumbled off my desk and scared the shit out of me. No way to turn it off in the menus :(

i only use mine to fly but i've never seen it vibrate. does yours vibrate while flying? are you using the wired or wireless version?

edit: ah i see, this must be something they added in the patch? could be a problem for me since mine sits on my desk when i'm not using it.
 
got a wired one. i only use it for flying but leave it plugged in when i play. same thing happened as everyone else lol. got shot at while i was running around and my case was rattling.
 
This patch gave me an overall 5-10 FPS boost it seems. Everything just seems to run smoother
 
Wow I just look at the "Nov 22 Patch Notes" on the battle log forum, Dice receive a full load 32 pages of $hit,

I try to play on Caspian, the RU helicopter was base raping the US one and the US Heli was doing the same on the RU base..... Very intelligent guy, they understand they will gain more points base rapping than chasing each other.
 
From what I have gleaned, the stuttering issue was only for pre-SB i7's.
Looks like I'll quit carrying Stingers and use something else-not a big deal for me, and I may grab more chopper time to boot.
Not like there are not plenty of opportunites to shoot people in the face with other weapons.

Sooo when can we expect 6 man squads? 4 is too small for a 64 man server, especially when you're stuck playing solo if 2-3 people decide to lock their squads.

I keep reading this, but [H] has not addressed this in their review (tested with an i7 920). I would love to hear it from them or have the theory debunked.

What it's all about ???, I have not more issues on my 990x than my 2600k and HT is enable (of course the game have some issues, but they are the same on both CPU )

Wow, how do you base rape, yet stay out of reach of the indestructible stationary AA at the same time??? It sounds like you/your team needs more practice on how to play.

Not 100% sure on this since I don't have a controller to test it out to make sure it works. Get notepad++ if you don't already have it, open up prof_save_profile located in docs/bf3/settings, scroll down to find GetInput.Vibration and change the 1 to a 0. That should be it.
 
How did you guys get the client patch? I've got that big button in the Game Manager thing on Battlelog to UPDATE, click on it, it opens the origin client and lands on the "Buy BF3" page. I'm not buying the game again to get a fucking patch.
