Need for Speed: The Run - Performance and IQ @ [H]

Dont bother, tunnel vision. He will never be able to see your logic. He choose a side. That is fail right there. Consoles + PC for the gaming win.

.

Only"fail"is you not reading post #36..talk about tunnelvision..

I'm up to Stage 3, and driver level 4 now, in the campaign mode.

Must say Im reluctantly playing through it as well..Really ashame how awesome this could have been..

PS..Not sure if you saw my earlier post, but have you guys contacted the developer about this???Im sure you guys could get a solid answer..

I've decided I'm going to see this game through to the end. The graphics are pretty good in it. The environments look great. I'm liking the idea of traveling across country and seeing all these landscapes in a racing game.

The developers added a new forum sticky to request feedback/requests for changes. My post is the third one down. http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/7730070.page

I don't actually think anything will come of this, but who knows.

If you feel as strongly as I do about this, please spam that forum thread with additional requests for this. Thanks.

Just finished "The Avalanche"level that was in the demo..Again I say..this game could have been AWESOME on the PC..I really do enjoy the feel of the game. The music and setup do give that white knuckled feeling. The graphics are definitely top notch and as a whole it does bring something new to the racing genre..30FPS cap though...:mad:

The phrase "this game" appeared 42 times in the article text and its summary. If EA had written this article, that phrase rate would have been capped at 30.

So i can see that the graphics are iffy at best for certain reasons, but how was the gameplay? Did the graphics themselves affect gameplay? Were you less able to control your car or compete because of the AA or fps cap?

This game could be great on PC but it is complete shit, very, very big fail..
Frostbyte 2 is one of the best things in PC gaming, right now and they turn it to complete console bullshit port. This game is just another half-product that they call PC version..

No AA, 30 FPS cap, and I Can't even find it on Steam.

Does anyone know if Eyefinity/Surround works on this game, whether Origin is required or not, and whether it works well with a G25/G27?

NFSMW is where I left off. After reading this thread I think I'll stick with old reliable.
I loved that one most of all the games. Only one I got a 100% completion on. Before that was NFIII and NFS: Porsche.

Only"fail"is you not reading post #36..talk about tunnelvision..
Nope, still stood. There are great games out there for every available platform. You took a subjective viewpoint of only being able to find games on the PC according to your "standards". So it would be a waste of time to attempt to counter your original statement. So I say, hey to each his own. :)

Your early comments about the original NFS's having PC exclusive content were interesting. I'd forgotten about that kinda stuff. Would Probably help the PC market if they started giving those kinds of incentives again.

more as you put it.."fail"..

shame....shame!!! 30 fps....to whoever decided that was ok...have you no shame sir? have you any sense of decency left sir?

My guess is there is a 30fps cap because thats how fast their driving physics, AI, model runs (aka the game tick). There may not be a point to updating the screen faster than 30fps, because the game simulation model hasn't advanced to the next frame, and so there is nothing to update it with.

Yeah, it screems of lazy unoptomized code.

You guys who limit yourself to PC games are missing out on a lot of good games that ps3 and 360 exclusives...i agree that a lazy port is annoying...oh well...its not the end of the world...you ppl need to join the dark side and you will see what you been missing...

That's why I rent. $0.86/hour. Big TV, comfortable seat, in a mall nearby.

Split/Second has a 30 fps cap.

Both Dead Space games had a 30 fps cap, although this could be switched off with a 3rd party program (can't remember the name of the program).

Optional caps are fine, forced frame rate caps are horrible.

It's D3DOverrider and it comes with RivaTuner. I've only had to use it on 3 games so far. Dead Space, Dead Space 2 and for some reason Borderlands to smooth out game play at 60fps.

Isn't that sort of pointless though? If the game engine isn't going to provide you another frame of data, what is the point of just drawing the same frame over again? I mean, that is what your 60 Hz monitor is doing anyway.

Wow whatever kind of hacks these developers are using to coax performance out of consoles needs to be properly implemented on PC. I don't understand why they even bother to release a PC version if it's going to be so badly done.

LMAO :D:D:D

Sad what is happening to some of the best gaming franchises these days. I will pass on this game. Or as was said much during the battlefield 3 launch... PREORDER CANCELLED!!

Nope. The PC version of NFS:The Run is the result of running "export to PC" on the FB2 devkit. There wasn't even a PC demo of the damn thing.

Chopped this awhile back. Just dug it up and uploaded it to my ImageShack for your viewing (and sharing) pleasure.

No patch, no purchase. I was looking forward to the FB2 engine in The Run, but 30FPS is a slap in the face to PC gamers.

True, but having programmed for games before, changing the update ticker to an arbitrary value is not "trivial" but certainly not a major undertaking. BF3 does not suffer from the problem, so I assume they had to create their own physics package which introduced this limitation. They simply didn't have PC's in mind at all when they first penned the design code. It reeks of indifference to PC users.

really, a 30 fps cap? what is their logic behind that? i cant think of any games that have a 30 fps cap, it is about the oddest thing i have ever heard of. i wonder if the bad press they get about the fps cap will make them release a patch for that.

split/second had a 30fps cap with asinine blurring to hide the fact that the game was running at 30fps.

the only console exclusive game thats worth a damn is Forza and i own all 4 games. its the only reason i even own a 360. ps3 has absolutely nothing of interest.

Since I upgraded my PC, I'm saving some dough to get a new video card. Was torn between lots of models, in many price ranges. Decided to save a little more and get a 6870, to be able to run everything I want with great graphics.

Despite that, every time I read a PC game review, I think if I'm not doing better getting a XBox 360. It's almost the same price of the video card, and damn... my 9800GT seems to be doing fine, except for a few games.

Electronic Arseholes

I purchased BF3 at launch and it has no cap on it & no console command to do it, had to use a lil prog (dxtory) to cap it to something reasonable, i was getting 200fps at the end of round menu, that's just stupid, my rig was blowing out hot air (antec 900 wind tunnel b4 any1 starts to bitch :-D)

And now this with NFSTR stuck at 30 fps to the other extreme, i wont be buying it, its an insult to pc gaming ffs, at the very least it should be linked to VSYNC.

EA need some antibiotics for their console-itus, fools, i was waiting for this game too...

Shame about the FPS cap, as this game looks like its the best looking NFS yet. It doesn't even make sense why cap it at 30 fps

Just curious, read the article on the main page...

How is the actual gameplay?

As a PC gaming racing fan, I always use a 360 controller.

I can live with the graphics restrictions as long as the gameplay delivers. That's the heart of a game, right? We always talk about gameplay trumping graphical achievements. Is it not the case here?

This game seems to be rather polarizing. I personally like it. The frame rate is capped @ 30, but the motion blur offsets that a bit. Outside of the framerate & lack of AA, it's a beautiful game! I also have a few other racing games....grid, dirt 3, shift 2 & trackmania 2, and I personally prefer the graphics in this game more than any of those.

I'm having fun with the gameplay too. It's definitely not for the sim folks, it's just a different style altogether. Most reviews are correct when bashing the story & quick-time events....but the actual gameplay & racing is cool.

Have yet to dive into multiplayer, so can't comment on that...
