PETA Attacks Battlefield 3 Over Animal Cruelty

It's not even a real rat, it's a digital rat...

Rats have been in FPS games for a very long time, even since the 90's.
The hell is the big deal?

Oh right, PETA wants attention. :p

i read this thread and laughed cause their was this big ass mofokn bee outside while i was smoking and it lands on a rock by me so im sitting their watching it thinking if this litle guy jus so happens to get any closer im gonna smash his ass well the time came and that happened then afterwards i was stuck staring at the mess sort of felt bad for killing it but surely didnt want to get stung moral of the story if you dont have to kill it dont cause you wouldnt want someone to shoot you after ytou gave up the jewerly now would ya?

They should have fun complaining about Skyrim then. In the stats menu you'll find a stat about the number of 'bunnies slaughtered' :D.

In MW3 you shoot a dog in the head...and they're complaining about a rat?

What worries me is how a "rat" can be seen as disposable, and insignificant. Whether its role is a pest, pet, attacker, or object for comic relief; the end result is that a rat is not very important, and who really gives a shit about a rat, anyway? The rat is an animal, just like every other human being is, and when people don't put that sort of association together, it makes me feel unsafe and uneasy.

Back in the early 2000's, I went camping with an old high school buddy of mine who came back from a tour in Iraq. We were talking over a campfire, making food and talking nonsense, when he suddenly saw a squirrel close by and decided to stab it with a big fuckin' knife. He repeatedly stabbed it, and then tossed it far away from the camp site. I asked him why he did that, and his response was, "it's just a rat; it deserves to die." He smiled and we went back to talking about high school and other things ordinary.

A rat is just an object, like a lot of things are, depending on the person's perspective and personal reflection. It worries me when people do things to object that can easily be done to me as well, just because it is "okay." Self-control is just a hair's width short of committing murder, regardless if it is lawful or not.

A rat IS a vermin.

A very infectious & full of disease one. A squirrel isn't the same thing.

It is obvious that you have never had to deal with things like reality and are unable to differentiate vermins from other animals. Btw i fold laundry everyday, laundry is an object, are you scared that i will fold you?... really???

These people are stupid in the way they go about things... I'm sure they had a good message at one point or another but they do more harm than good pretty much all the damned time. Animal rights and such have become a giant joke in the US and other countries because of these overzealous nonsensical clowns, and anyone who comes along and gets the support of these assclowns and automatically looks like a clown themselves.

Of all the things to protest, they raise a stink over one lousy rat? Apparently they never heard of the Black Death or all the other plagues these vermin have spread.

That was more fleas also humans being unclean and living in shit (don't hate the player...) :p

In MW3 you shoot a dog in the head...and they're complaining about a rat?

You strap bombs to dogs in C&C and other games too...

Complaining about killing virtual rats in a video game? I knew PETA was crazy but wow... Even if it WERE real it's a damn rat, in the middle of a fucking warzone... Worrying about the rats at that point is beyond ridiculous.

If PETA really believes in their message then all their members should deny medical treatment when they get become ill/diseased. Animal testing has been a huge contributor to medical progress.

P.S. I haven't even seen a rat in BF3, is it only in the single-player or something? If so a lot of BF players will never see it in the first place :p

It's because according to "teh authorities", a series of animal tests must be carried out before any human testing is allowed. Even though animals physiology and anatomy is completely different and thus it's kind of irrelevant (like how chocolate causes nerve damage in dogs and most rat poison doesn't harm humans). Should use cloned human cell cultures or something instead. It's not really worthwhile using animals which delays things with pointless crap that doesnt give definate answers that can't really be relied upon. It's more a huge worthless PITA, like PETA themselves.

PETA a kiss my ASS, I kill rats and mice with Glue Traps no Less!

Did you ever try to put down a bird or a turtle in Crysis or Warhead without killing it? A far worse sin.

Yeah whatever PETA, this is probably one of the most stupidest things PETA has stated, getting worked up over a digital rat in a video game. And even in real life, rats are considered pests and must be exterminated to prevent spread of diseases. I wouldn't allow a rat or a mouse to roam freely in my household either.

Yea this is a little much, but PETA does do some good things. Have you seen any of those videos? You'd have to be a psychopath to not feel disturbed at how those animals are being treated. So all the people saying "fuck PETA go die" should really think more about it

Also did you guys even read the article? "The organization also noted that, once a certain level of brutality against animals is accepted, people may be close to be considering violence against other people as well."

So, they are using the "violent videogames make people violent!" line?

That does NOT add credibility to them buddy.

What a bunch of nutjobs... Seriously... a rat... in a warzone... in a game... They've seriously gone mad.

Nevermind the killing of hundreds of virtual humans. Don't worry about showing the murder of foreign dictators on the news. Let's worry about the goddamn digital rat.

I get chills every time I realize I share the same world as these pathetic wankers.

PETA is hilarious. What about all the humans dieing the virtual world of Battlefield?? They don't care about them.

nutzo, you are right... I'm surprised that these ethical animal people haven't sued PETA for trademark infringement yet.

I suppose PETA shouldn't watch me play COD MW3. I can't help but kill all the chickens caged up in some of the MP maps.
There's gotta be an achievement for it! :D

The devs in bf3 forgot to a fundamental phrase to the game that would have prevented all of this:

"Its coming right for us!"

Fuck the PETA, I'm gonna go to KFC today just to spite them.

COLONEL HARLAND SANDERS, FUCK YEAH!

Like your name, your comment fails, you ever see what kind of drugs they inject into that chicken? Hope you were wanting retarded kids cause I won't be surprised when you have one.

I've been playing since release and can't recall ever seeing a rat in the game, let alone killing one. All my settings are cranked up so I don't think its not rendering everything...

But now that they've brought my attention to the rats...:D

Could have been worse....

A gerbil... Bic razor, .... Cooking Oil... PVC Pipe..... (ER/Trauma RN @Detroit Receiving Hospital at the time)... won't mention the "dusting" of the gerbil prior to PVC pipe (it wasn't powered sugar)

Were was PETA then? Think of the Gerbils....

okay. ANYONE who played the mission knows that the main character was behind enemy lines in which a shit load insurgents are searching for him. I would kill 100 more in that situation.

they should look at the over all situation. It was a life threatening situation and the rat was about to expose the corporal's hiding position. it's not like he was having fun with it.

PETA is completely detached from reality. That's about all there is to it.

What about Skyrim? There are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more animals in skyrim, and you can kill them and not take their meat or pelt.

Fuck PETA anyways, time to eat some nice carnitas tacos. Or maybe some extra thick bacon with wing stop strips!

P.S. I haven't even seen a rat in BF3, is it only in the single-player or something? If so a lot of BF players will never see it in the first place :p

That is exactly what I want to know. Where is this rat? Haven't seen one in BF3 yet!

Ok, first off..... LAUGHABLE PETA CLAIM, onnnnnnce again!

Second, the rat BITES YOU IN THE GAME when you are going through a tunnel, hence potentially giving the person a disease... and the guy knifes the rat. Big fucking whoop!

Lastly, thanks PETA, for advertising Battlefield 3 to the mature "news reading' crowd of the US! Like we need more people in the good 64 man servers (seriously hard to find a good UNPACKED bf3 server when joining with your friends :D )
