According to a new survey, most people aren't going to do any shopping on Black Friday. That seems about right, I personally avoid the BF hassles and do 99% of my shopping online using our commissioned buying links. Sure beats the hell out of standing in line for hours on end. ;)

Despite all the hype and hoopla and multi-page spreads, most Americans are planning on doing absolutely no shopping at all on Black Friday, according to a new survey. A Harris Interactive survey found 87% of Americans saying they don't buy the majority of their gifts during Thanksgiving Weekend. Rather, 51% said they do most of their holiday shopping during the month of December.

I shop all of the Black Friday deals online (if I find anything of interest). No need to deal with psychotic shopaholics or bad drivers.

I think a lot of people figured out that stores are just trying to get rid of out of date/open box/unwanted crap to clear space for greedfest.

I'm proud to say I've never bothered yet and I sure as hell have never lost any sleep for it, either.

boxing day > black friday

well.. not really, but online shopping has always been better. Especially since the sales generally start a big earlier.

I actually enjoy black friday every year. I don't go for myself tho, I just go with some friends to tag along. I enjoy the energy and excitement and mayhem of others around me. I'll usually just pick up something for the heck of it like 100 stack of DVD-Rs or a USB stick or something else useful going for cheap.

I know what you mean about the excitement / mayhem but standing in line for a register for 1 hr+ totally kills it.

fewer people getting trampled to death at walmart is probably a good thing.

Who doesn't enjoy the thrill of trampling old ladies for a $25 dvd player? It's what this country is all about

Gave up going to Black Friday sales years ago, when people started lining up the night before, and the lines wrapping around the stores 2 hours before they opened. With the limited quantities, the stores would be out of everything before the last people in line even got in the door :(

I just bought a 570 2.5GB from Newegg and I totally forgot about the commissioned links. I am ordering the rest of the entire system tonight, so I will remember to use your link this time.

I went to Frys on Black Friday about 6 years ago. Got a lot of good stuff and some great prices, but after all said and done, factor in how long I waited in line just to check out, it wasn't really worth it. Fun for the spectacle to do once or twice, but I have better things to do with my time. I will buy a ton of stuff online if the deals are good, though. Too many shops are claiming great Black Friday deals, when the deals really suck or are just a few dollars off -- that gets irritating.

After the whole Touchpad fiasco (got my three for family...woohoo), I'm a little tired of buying things. Unless someone has a 7-day cruise listed during Black Friday, I'm not going to do my duty as a model consumer during the "event".

I gave up on Black Friday once all the deals started looking like crap. Most of the stuff on sale is stuff I would never consider buying.

You couldn't pay me enough to go. I'd rather pay full price.

Personally, I think its just another double standard, which is why I refuse to participate. Sure we have Black History Month, Black Entertainment Television, and Black Friday... but change it to White and suddenly its racist.

I went out for the deals the first and second years after Black Friday started....the third year caught fire and everybody and his brother started camping out is freezing temps to buy out everything they could get their hands on to resell at a profit. Rude, obnoxious, pushy people scrambling for positions.....forget that noise. I prefer Black Monday.....never got pushed around online.

I don't know how those guys in retail handle that.. I'd have blown my brains out.

Easily, and it doesnt involve guns

First person there wins. And I remember the first 3 faces I see. Most stores, especially camera departments only carry 3 of every product, even "sale item" "advertised". Once those 3 items are gone, sorry, out of product, and than you put up a sign.

I did that for a while. And most people are only there for that specific camera. Most stores on BF only sell one specific item from each department. So stock is always limited. First Come, First Serve!

Did it once back in 2005 at CompUSA only because some friends goaded me into it. Stood there forever in the cold and when I finally got into the store, I got pushed around by aggressive old women and the like. Not worth it all for that external HD I got for $49.99.

i did it once or twice before the economy tanked and the deals got stupid.

the first year there was a 300 dollar laptop was alright...

the last few years though... smart shopping online through the year resulted in better sales...and now there is a "black friday" ad from half the places every 2 months or so. It's gone from semi gimmick with a few actual sales, to full on gimmick with an overly limited number of the 1 or 2 actual sale items...that frankly with some smart slickdealing can be had for the same or better other times during the year.

simply not worth it while companies are in major cash grab mode...not even saying it's their fault or anything, but plain and simple its not what it used to be

Once i lurned aboot thr intarnet, i nevar had 2 see another groop of 300+lb people thet smelled like shet all fieting ovar the same peace of shet itm they forget aboot 2 days after

I buy all the stuff i want during the year, when it comes to x-mas, no one can give me anything since i already have what i want.

totally agree online, screw the crowds. BF is overhyped on the deals anyways. There is maybe a gem but I am not getting up and waiting in a line to get robbed, etc.

One year, my cousin I out of curiosity went to the shopping plaza on Thanksgiving to see if anyone was already there (and we wanted something from Sports Authority). Lo and behold, there was a family camped out in front of Circuit City (yeah, this was back when they were still around) having their Thanksgiving dinner in the cold.

/facepalm

After working on that day for 7 years straight I will never ever go shopping on that day. Rather sleep in..

No black friday deals for me. I'm packing a moving van that day.

No Christmas shopping for me this year. I'm buying the other half a new car and I'm getting everyone else a card.

Basically this, a few years ago I got some good deals on some things, but meh it's not so worth it anymore when the deals aren't that great. I'd always go to Fry's, this year I'd like to snag a sandy vag- er I mean bridge setup finally so I might go.

You people talk like black friday was a recently concieved event. Its been around for Years. Its just because of the good old internet hype from bloggers and everything else that spread these "deals" like wildfire.

I mean seriously back in the day if you were one of the first hundred in line then there was no point in waiting in line. You drove back home. They only had like 10 of the object and nothing else was on sale. The rest of the cattle that walked in the rest of the day payed regular price on everything.

Lol, people still actually buy this stuff at a store, in person?!?

The funny thing is, you can often get the best shopping deals of the year during the 7 days AFTER Christmas, than you can at any time before it as retailers clear out their inventory.

I'll do my grocery shopping that day. It will be quick. Nobody is going to be storming the deli.

I will be, now that I know you will be. Touch my goddamn smoked ham, and it's cement slipper for you!

depends on if something I want is at a really good price or not. I've snagged some nice ones before and don't mind going out again if the price is right.
